The Daily Beast: Two Inept Fools Fail In Alleged Scam To Frame Mayor Pete

Jacob Wohl (L), Jack Burkman (R)
Yesterday I reported on some shady shenanigans by Republican operatives who attempted to smear Democratic presidential contender Mayor Pete Buttigieg by alleging false accusations of sexual assault.

The allegations were made in the name of Hunter Kelly, a Michigan college student, but more details have come to light about the right-wing trolls who plotted the scheme.

Kelly tells The Daily Beast that he had been communicating with known hoax-ster Jacob Wohl for several weeks. But last week, Wohl invited Kelly to the home of Jack Burkman in Baltimore to discuss gathering dirt on Mayor Pete as part of a “task force” set up by the Trump administration.

Wohl and partner Jack Burkman apparently paid for Kelly’s ticket to Baltimore and the duo picked him up shortly after midnight.

According to a statement posted on his Facebook, Kelly says the two revealed a “draft” of an article that was to be posted on Medium accusing Buttigieg of sexually assaulting Kelly. Kelly says he wasn’t feeling comfortable about the idea, but Wohl told him to sleep on it as they had talked until about 4am.

(statement via Hunter Kelly's Facebook - click image to enlarge)

But when Kelly awoke the next morning, Wohl allegedly informed the Michigan college student that the article had already been posted in Kelly’s name. Burkman apparently told Kelly that he was a “star” and people were “eating” him up.

After a lunch of Subway sandwiches, Kelly writes that he was feeling regretful about the lie, but was told with the article already posted “turning back on what had been published would look bad.”

Kelly asserts that Burkman promised to buy him “any house I wanted” to stay involved with the scam. It was during those discussions that Kelly says he was pressured into signing a ‘script’ about the fake sexual assault which was to have taken place in February at “the fancy Mayflower Hotel” in D.C.

Kelly’s statement goes on to say he spent the next hours dodging “hate mail and reporters left and right while getting dozens of texts from friends and family asking why the media was contacting them.”

He eventually ‘escaped’ from Burkman’s home by faking a nap, and calling his family to come pick him up. When he was informed his family had arrived, Kelly says he rushed downstairs and left saying he couldn’t take part in the scheme because “that is not the type of person I am.”

Kelly says Wohl posted more fake tweets on an account Wohl and Burkman had created where Kelly appeared distraught.

This isn’t Burkman and Wohl's first trip to the fake scandal rodeo.

Last year, the duo were accused of planning a busted scheme where they tried to pay a woman large sums of money to falsely accuse Special Counsel Robert Mueller of sexually harassing her in the 1970’s in an effort to discredit Mueller. That little escapade didn't go any better than this.

Additionally, The Daily Beast reports a second man has come forward saying Burkman & Wohl approached him about a similar scheme. He says he not only met with the two, but recorded the conversation. The Daily Beastconfirms they've heard the recording.

Kelly says he traveled to meet with the conservative provocateurs with the intention of “seeing what LEGITIMATE dirt we could get on Buttigieg.”

In his statement, he says he was never in D.C. in February; never met Buttigieg; and never been a victim of sexual assault.

“Jack Burkman may have promised me a lavish lifestyle, but at a price that would cost me the two most important things to me: honesty and integrity,” writes Kelly. “Had I gone forward with this despicable scheme they concocted, I would have lost both of those things and became another one of their useless pawns.”

Kelly also calls Wohl and Burkman “the real danger to our country.”

In response, Burkman alleges that it was Kelly who reached out to him to meet.

Burkman posted a copy of the signed ‘script’ along with a photo of Kelly holding his ID with the caption, “1. Very first thing Hunter Kelly did is sign a statement attesting to his accusation 2. He was in full control of all public disclosures, even taking a selfie with his ID to confirm his identity to @MediumSupport MSM bullied him & his family into submission”

Burkman has also tweeted calling Kelly his "former client" who was "pressured out of telling his truth."

The Twitterverse was not impressed:

Brian Sims Calls Out GOP Lawmaker "Stop Lying. It's Gross."

Brian Sims calls out Senator-elect Marsha Blackburn for "lying" about the government shutdown and 'spinning' fake facts
Pennsylvania state Rep. Brian Sims

Woofy Brian Sims of Pennsylvania does not suffer fools gladly.

It all began when Marsha Blackburn, the Tennessee Republican who was recently elected to the U.S. Senate, took to Twitter to blame Democrats for the shutdown of several federal departments and agencies.

"I am disappointed to see that the Senate Democrats chose to shut down our government instead of secure our southern border," wrote Blackburn on Saturday. "The American people deserve to be protected against drug cartels and human traffickers."

As has been widely reported, the current government shutdown occurred because Donald Trump reneged on an agreed upon bipartisan plan to fund the government until February.

But when far-right political pundits like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter criticized Trump for not getting $5 billion to fund the beginning of his infamous wall along the Mexican border, it was more than Trump could take. And so, he reversed course demanding his ‘wall money.’

In a meeting ten days before the shutdown, Trump even told Democratic leaders Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Chuck Schumer that he would be “proud” to shut down the government.

“I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck," Trump told the Democrats in a televised meeting in the Oval Office. “Because the people of this country don’t want criminals and people who have lots of problems — and drugs — pouring into our country. I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it.”

Sims, the hunky gay Democratic state lawmaker in Pennsylvania, called out Blackburn on Twitter for her "outright lie."

"Marsha, all spin aside, this post is just an outright lie," Sims clarified on Twitter. "It’s no a play on what really happened. It’s a complete fabrication. This is the kind of bold-faced lie that makes people hate politics and politicians. From one elected official to another: Stop Lying. It’s gross."

Blackburn, who has been a Trump toadie for a long time, was merely repeating what her idol has been tweeting since the funding debacle bubbled up last week.

According to The New York Times, the Trump shutdown will likely last into the new year when a new Congress is sworn in and the Democrats take control of the House.

The shutdown has shuttered the Departments of Homeland Security, Justice, Interior, Agriculture, Housing and more. Some 400,000 federal workers are expected to be furloughed as we head into Christmas.

My man Brian has never shied away from calling out GOP politicians for lying.

When anti-LGBTQ Vice President Mike Pence was heading into Philadelphia (Sims’ district) for a visit this past June, Sims ‘welcomed’ the veep with a controversial image giving Pence the finger.

“To be clear, we’re a City of soaring diversity. We believe in the power of all people to live and to contribute: Black, Brown, Queer, Trans, Atheist, Immigrant, we want you and we’ll respect you,” Sims wrote on Facebook. “So keep that in mind while you’re here raising money to attack more families, spread more lies, blaspheme with your bible, and maybe even talk to a woman without your wife in the room.”

I've been a fan of the woofy Sims for years. Let’s take a stroll through his Instagram, shall we?

Trump Lawyer Michael Cohen Pleads Guilty To Lying To Congress About Trump/Russia Deal

Former Donald Trump lawyer, Michael Cohen
Donald Trump's former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty this morning in a New York court to lying to Congress regarding a Moscow real estate project that Trump and his company pursued during the months he was running for president.

Trump repeatedly said during the 2016 campaign he had no deals, interests or financial ties in or to Russia.

From The Washington Post:

In a nine-page filing, prosecutors laid out a litany of lies that Cohen admitted he told to congressional lawmakers about the Moscow project — an attempt, Cohen said, to minimize links between the proposed development and Trump as his presidential bid was taking off.

Cohen falsely said efforts to build a Trump-branded tower in Moscow ended in January 2016, when in fact discussions continued through that year, the filing said. Among the people Cohen briefed on the status of the project was Trump himself, on more than three occasions, according to the document.

Trump has repeatedly said that he had no business dealings in Russia, tweeting in July 2016, “For the record, I have ZERO investments in Russia” and telling reporters in January 2017 that he had no deals there because he had “stayed away.”

Tom Winter of NBC News was in the court room and reports on what Cohen testified to:

Trump immediately told reporters that he could have pursued the deal in Russia and there would have been nothing wrong with that, but he didn't.

He went on to say the man who was his personal lawyer for years and years is "a weak person."

Trump has suddenly decided to cancel meetings with Russian President Putin at the G20 summit. Coincidence? Or just avoiding bad optics?

One more thing - don't forget this email from Felix Sater to Michael Cohen in 2015 saying, "Buddy, our boy can become president of the USA and we can engineer it."

Sean Hannity then did this:

While onstage, Hannity made a point to gesture to the press covering the event, including cameras for Fox News and declared, "Fake news."

Fellow Fox News personality Judge Jeanine Pirro also showed up to trumpet the Trumpster.

FBI Director Contradicts White House Version Of Timeline On Rob Porter Background Check

FBI Director Christopher Wray
Donald Trump's own hand-picked FBI Director, Christopher Wray, directly contradicted the White House's timeline regarding now-departed staff secretary Rob Porter's background security check.

The White House told the press that Porter's alleged domestic abuse only came to light this month.

But testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee today, Wray told lawmakers the FBI completed a partial report in March, finished a final report in July, and delivered responses to follow up requests in November.

The White House has never mentioned receiving a report in March. And White House spokesman Raj Shah told reporters that the background check was never completed.

Anti-Same-Sex Marriage Couple Renege On Divorcing On Passage Of Marriage Equality

I've posted in the past about a married couple of haters in Australia who "threatened" to divorce should marriage equality come to the land "down under."

Back in June 2015, Nick and Sarah Jensen of Canberra swore to divorce in protest if the government legalized same-sex marriage.

It will come as no surprise the threat was an empty one as Parliament has resoundingly approved marriage equality.

From The Daily Mail:

And after Parliament finally passed the law to cheers on Thursday afternoon, Mr Jensen announced his position in a statement to Daily Mail Australia. “My previous public comments regarding civil divorce never envisaged me separating from my wife, but rather our marriage from the State,” he wrote.

“The legislation currently makes it untenable for us to do this under the law. The point we were highlighting and that still stands however is the fact that a redefinition of marriage changes the agreement under which we were originally married. We will be making no further comment.”

Here's Nick Jansen's statement from 2015:

“My wife and I just celebrated our 10-year anniversary. But later this year, we may be getting a divorce. The decision to divorce is not one we’ve taken lightly. And certainly, it’s not one that many will readily understand. And that’s because it’s not a traditional divorce. Our view is that marriage is a fundamental order of creation. Part of God’s human history. Marriage is the union of a man and a woman before a community in the sight of God. And marriage of any couple is important to God regardless of whether that couple recognises God’s involvement or authority in it.”

FBI Director Comey: We Have No Information That Supports Trump's Wiretapping Tweets

FBI Director James Comey testified this morning that neither the FBI nor the Department of Justice has any evidence to support President Trump's allegations that President Obama ordered Trump Tower's phones to be wiretapped during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Comey also acknowledged that the FBI is, indeed, investigating Russia's actions during the 2016 election and the Russian government's ties to the Trump campaign:

I have been authorized by the Department of Justice to confirm that the FBI, as part of our counterintelligence mission, is investigating the Russian government’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. That includes investigating the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government, and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia’s efforts.

Liars at Texas Eagle Forum: Massachusetts population is declining because of same-sex marriage

Cathie Adams speaks at the Texas Values Summit

During the Texas Values anti-gay press conference, Cathie Adams said that the state’s ban on same-sex marriage is a reason for its population growth: “Texas is the fastest growing state in the nation and there is a reason for that, and part of that reason is traditional marriage.”

Transcript of Ms. Adam's comments:

We do not accept the homosexual agenda, that is what we are talking about here.

If those who embrace that homosexual agenda want to move to a state that does embrace homosexual marriage, there is a state of Massachusetts that they could move to. But we are finding is that they’re not moving to Massachusetts, what is happening is that Massachusetts is declining in numbers, people are moving out of that state.

So why in the world would Texas, that is growing and the fastest growing, want to join Massachusetts, that is declining. People are moving away, they are voting with their feet, out of Massachusetts.

As is often the case with the anti-gay haters, Ms. Cathie is making up facts as she goes along. The truth is Massachusetts population has been increasing since marriage equality became the law of the state, and is still growing, not declining. See the chart below:

Another time Bryan Fischer was caught lying

Speaking on July 18th about the downed Malaysian Airlines flight, President Obama mentioned the many HIV/AIDS researchers and advocates headed for the 20th International AIDS Conference in Australia who were on the plane.

At the time, Obama said "the United States of America is going to continue to stand for the basic principle that people have the right to live as they choose."

Hate group leader Bryan Fischer decided he didn't like that. Fischer said that Obama's statement was meant to "politicize" their deaths in order to legitimize gay relationships.

Fischer added, "We know how to stop AIDS: persuade men not to have sex with men."

Well, we all know that's not true. But let's let the folks at PolitiFact break it all down for us, shall we?

About 70 percent of all people infected with HIV live in sub-Saharan Africa, about 24 million people. This region is also home to the most children living with HIV whose infections originated during pregnancy, childbirth of consuming breast milk, according to AIDS.gov.

Globally, the dominant form of transmission is heterosexual sex, said Sophie Barton Knott, UNAIDS spokeswoman. Nearly half of people with HIV are female, and most were infected through heterosexual sex. Most of the 50.9 percent of men with HIV got it through heterosexual sex, too, she said.

The highest rates of AIDS among 15- to 24-year-olds is among women in many parts of the world, said Seth Faison, spokesman for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. And in Eastern Europe, the highest transmission rates of AIDS are among people who inject drugs.

"Men who have sex with men are a high-risk group, but not the only one," he said.

The bottom line?

Preventing men from having sex with men will not end AIDS.

Faison said the criminalization of same-sex activity actually can increase transmission rates. Being gay is a crime in at least 76 countries, and in those places, gay men are less likely to receive treatment, testing and prevention.

The CDC also says stigma and homophobia are likely one factor behind the rise in HIV infections among young gay men in the United States.

"In effect, efforts to ‘persuade men not to have sex with men’ is counterproductive," Faison said. "It will not stop AIDS."

PolitiFact gives the statement it's worst rating of "Pants On Fire."

Rush Limbaugh: I never called for Obama's impeachment (except when I did three weeks ago)

Rush Limbaugh is complaining that he has never called for President Obama's impeachment, and CNN is unfairly lumping him in with other right wing lunatics who have.

From Media Matters:

On the July 15 edition of CNN's CNN Tonight, senior Washington correspondent Joe Johns highlighted Rush Limbaugh's attacks against President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder, likening his "combative tone" to Sarah Palin's call for impeachment.

Limbaugh responded on the July 16 edition of his radio show, insisting that the news segment unfairly lumped him in to an extreme group, saying "I haven't spoken in favor of impeachment," and "I never talked about [Obama] being born in Kenya":

Except, he TOTALLY did. Take a listen to a clip from Rush's June 24th show:

Scott Lively denies calling President Obama anti-Christ, gets busted for lying

Scott Lively, anti-gay pastor and Massachusetts gubernatorial candidate, denies he called President Obama the Anti-Christ, then admits it Michelangelo Signorile  plays a recording of him saying just that.

From Right Wing Watch:

Last year, Lively told Rick Wiles of TruNews that the Antichrist “is heading the largest superpower of the world today,” obviously referring to Obama, who he predicted would eliminate “the debts of the world,” bring about “a peace treaty between the Palestinians and the Israelis” and establish “secular humanism” as a global religion.

Conservative commentator Michael Medved at CPAC: No state has ever banned gay marriage

Conservative commentator Michael Medved at CPAC

I posted earlier about Oliver North speaking at CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) which is the right-wing's favorite week to try and "out cheer-lead" each other as speaker after speaker and conference panel after conference panel tries to make the movement sound like the most rational folks on earth. Which, by the way, they aren't.

Just to show you how loose the rhetoric gets, earlier today during a panel called "Can Libertarians and Social Conservatives Ever Get Along?," conservative commentator Michael Medved flatly stated "There has never been a state in this country that has ever banned gay marriage."

No punchline. That was it. No state had ever denied same-sex couples marriage rights.

As everyone in American knows (and anyone who reads The Randy Report) 30 states specifically prohibit same-sex marriage. Only 17 states plus Washington DC allow for marriage equality.

This is what goes on at these things. A WHOLE lot of misinformation.

National Organization for Marriage chairman alleges "harassment" of donors

NOM Chair John Eastman went for the big "liar, liar, pants on fire" today when he testified of "harassment" of his donors for Prop 8, which NO ONE has EVER documented actually happened.

NO ONE.

Isn't lying a sin?

What this is is a classic "bait and switch" from the issue at hand to self-serving accusations to divert from  the fact that NOM is not a "social welfare" organization.

Congressman Blumenauer responded to Eastman's comments on the Huffington Post:

"Let's get real and stop the charade about what a 'social welfare' organization is. Last year, internal National Organization for Marriage (NOM) strategy documents were leaked, stating that the organization seeks 'to drive a wedge between gays and blacks' by promoting "African American spokespeople for marriage,' thus provoking same-sex marriage supporters into 'denouncing these spokesmen and women as bigots,' and 'to interrupt the assimilation' of Latinos into 'dominant Anglo culture' by making the stance against same-sex marriage 'a key badge of Latino identity.'

"Does this sound like social welfare to you? Social welfare organizations should work in the public interest -- not to divide, exploit, and conquer. When I brought this up at the hearing today, Dr. Eastman, Chairman of the Board of NOM, angrily groused, 'To say that defending traditional marriage doesn't qualify for defense of the public good is beyond preposterous.'

"To Dr. Eastman, I say that it is the denial of my constituents, and all Americans, the right to marry the person they love is preposterous. To exploit racial and religious differences so you can fundraise for and enforce your specific worldview is preposterous. But your right to be preposterous should not extend to taking political positions under the guise of a social welfare organization, raising money and campaigning."

- Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) for the Huffington Post

Newt Gingrich lies about gay adoption

Serial adulterer Newt Gingrich tried to pass off the usual lie about gay adoption's "effect" on the Catholic Church on Meet The Press yesterday:

“But what I’m struck with is the one-sidedness of the desire for rights,” he added. “There are no rights for Catholics to have adoption services in Massachusetts. They’re outlawed. There are no rights in DC for Catholics to have adoption service. They’re outlawed.” “This passing reference to religion, we sort of respect religion — sure, as long as you don’t practice it,” Gingrich continued, saying we should go beyond the question of “Are you able to be gay in America?” and ask what it means. Whether that means, for example, eliminating “any institution which does not automatically accept that, and therefore, you’re now going to have a secular state, say, to a wide range of religious groups.”

Also on the panel was Joy-Ann Reid, who rightfully corrected Gingrich noting that Catholic Charities voluntarily withdrew their services rather than comply with anti-discrimination laws. Gay rights have not "eliminated" any religious group. If a group doesn't wish to follow the law, then they are making their own choice.

More proof that Rush Limbaugh is either a liar or an idiot

In the last election cycle alone, Maryland, Maine and Washington state all passed same-sex marriage by popular vote of those states' citizens.

Rush Limbaugh knows this. But it makes him feel better to lie to his listeners and say the issue has lost every time when it has not.

Last week, a new Post-ABC News poll revealed 58 percent support for marriage equality.

"So same-sex marriage and wiping out the Defense of Marriage Act is now a civil right. People that oppose it are bigots and nobody wants to be a bigot.  But the thing you can't say is that if left to a vote of the people, same-sex marriage loses every time it's on the ballot.  I think so far it's 30 times.  State ballots, initiatives and other things, and the Defense of Marriage Act at the federal level.  It's never passed.

You wouldn't know that, would you, by listening to the pop culture media?  You would think that this issue has overtaken everything, it's the most important issue to everybody and anybody, and that it has massive public support.  And yet every time it's been voted on by the people it has gone down to defeat.  That's why the courts have to get involved, because the people, according to the left, won't do the right thing." - Rush Limbaugh, speaking on yesterday's radio show.

Anti-gay NC state senator James Forrester falsifies credentials

Pam's House Blend breaks the news today that N.C. State Senator James Forrester, who supports banning marriage equality in North Carolina, not only has publicly put forward false information regarding HIV/AIDS - he has falsely claimed credentials as a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine.

Equality supporter Scott Rose has written an open letter to the Senator which, in part, states the following:

"I was dismayed recently to hear your radio interview with Mike Signorile. There is a strong appearance that although you are a licensed physician, you intentionally falsify health care information and health care statistics in a political context in order fraudulently to demonize LGBT human beings and to motivate anti-gay bigots to strengthen the currently pertaining sexual orientation apartheid in our society. Your behavior in that runs counter to medical ethics. And speaking of medical ethics, your online bios claim that you are a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine, but today, ACPM officials told me that you are not a member, still less a Fellow, which is their highest level of distinction, and that they would be asking you to remove your phony claim from the internet."

Michael Barry, Executive Director of the American College of Preventive Medicine, responded to Scott Rose in a letter:

"Thanks for bringing this to our attention. The quick answer to your questions is that Dr. Forrester is not, and never has been, a member of ACPM (much less a Fellow, which is our highest designation of membership). However, this is troubling to us, too, that he's apparently claiming to be a Fellow of ACPM, and we would like to know where Dr. Forrester is making these proclamations so that we can approach him and demand that he cease falsely using ACPM credentials in his campaign or wherever else he's using it."

I believe the correct phrase here is  - BUSTED.
