CNN Trolls Trump Without Using His Name In New "Facts First" Campaign

Brilliant.

CNN's new campaign "Facts First," is clearly meant as a commentary on Donald Trump's practice of repeating well-debunked lies (often in all caps) hoping they somehow morph into truth via repetition.

The text of the video reads:

This is an apple.
Some people might try to tell you it's a banana.
They might scream banana, banana, banana.
Or put banana in all caps.
You might even start to believe that this is a banana.
But it's not.
This is an apple.

Facts First.

Donald Trump On "Credible Sources"

Donald Trump went on another of his Twitter rants yesterday railing about the use of unnamed "sources" in news reports about him.

As you can see above, he says "Whenever you see the words 'sources say' in the fake news media, and they don't mention names... it is very possible that those sources don't exist but are made up by fake news writers. #FakeNews is the enemy!"

Now, when he says sources don't exist, is it possible he speaks from first hand experience?

Take a trip with me on the way-back machine...

Dan Rather: "These Are Not Ordinary Times"

Dan Rather

Iconic journalist Dan Rather shared an essay this weekend via Facebook addressing his concerns regarding the nascent Trump administration's loose relationship with the truth and the newly coined term "alternative facts."

Here's the full post which has now gone viral:

These are not normal times. These are extraordinary times. And extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures.

When you have a spokesperson for the president of the United States wrap up a lie in the Orwellian phrase "alternative facts”…

When you have a press secretary in his first appearance before the White House reporters threaten, bully, lie, and then walk out of the briefing room without the cajones to answer a single question…

When you have a President stand before the stars of the fallen CIA agents and boast about the size of his crowds (lies) and how great his authoritarian inaugural speech was….

These are not normal times.

The press has never seen anything like this before. The public has never seen anything like this before. And the political leaders of both parties have never seen anything like this before.

What can we do? We can all step up and say simply and without equivocation. "A lie, is a lie, is a lie!" And if someone won't say it, those of us who know that there is such a thing as the truth must do whatever is in our power to diminish the liar's malignant reach into our society.

There is one group of people who can do a lot - very quickly. And that is Republicans in Congress. Without their support, Donald Trump's presidency will falter. So here is what I think everyone in the press must do. If you are interviewing a Paul Ryan, a Mitch McConnell, or any other GOP elected official, the first question must be "what will you do to combat the lying from the White House?" If they dodge and weave, keep with the follow ups. And if they refuse to give a satisfactory answer, end the interview.

Facts and the truth are not partisan. They are the bedrock of our democracy. And you are either with them, with us, with our Constitution, our history, and the future of our nation, or you are against it. Everyone must answer that question.

"Your Memes Are Not News Articles. And Your Hypocisy Is Not A Platform."

This post from Facebook has been making the rounds. A man named Alex Schiller is credited with writing it.

I think it makes the point many American voters feel today.

Bill Clinton cheats on his wife. Impeach him. Trump proudly brags about sexual assault (and has cheated on all of his wives). Elect him.

Hillary oversaw the department of state while 4 people died in an embassy attack. Put her in jail. 2 Republicans were in office while over 200 people died in embassy attacks. No problem.

Immigrants don't pay taxes. Round them up and kick them out. Trump doesn't pay taxes. He's a business genius.

The Clinton Foundation only spent 87% of their donations helping people. She's a crook. The Trumps Foundation paid off his debts, bought paintings of him, and made political donations to avoid investigations while using less than 5% of funds for actual charity (and he got shut down by the NY State Attorney General). So savvy... put him in the White House.

Trump made $4 billion dollars in 40 years, when an index fund started at the same time with the same "small loans" he received, it would be worth $12 billion today... without a trail of bankruptcies, thousands of lawsuits and hundreds of burned small business owners. He's a real business whiz.

Hillary took a loss of $700k. She's a criminal. Trump is the first candidate in the modern era not to release his tax returns, and yet we found out that he took a billion dollar loss in 1 year. Genius.

Hillary takes responsibility for private email servers and apologizes. Not credible. Trump denies saying things (on the record) he actually said (on the record), he's just telling it like it is.

Really???

Your arguments are thin. Your ignorance of reality is shocking. Your double-standards are offensive, and your willingness to blindly support him and recycle the rhetoric is absurd. Your opinion is not fact. Your memes are not news articles. And your hypocrisy is not a platform.

Henry Rollins On SCOTUS Ruling On Same-Sex Marriage

Henry Rollins gets down to the honest truth about folks reaction to the Supreme Court's ruling on same-sex marriage.

Writing for LA Weekly, he offers this clarity:

There were no losers, in my opinion. To those who disagree with same-sex marriage because it offends their faith, I would say your beliefs are still yours to have. The wisdom, peace and clarity that faith has allowed you to have are still intact. No word of any religious text has been changed or its power reduced. There is a lot of room in America; it allows all to move freely.

All the wedding photographs popping up on the Internet should be enough to convince anyone that this was a great decision. Take Jack Evans and George Harris, for example — together for 54 years, in Texas of all places, finally able to get hitched.

I am looking at them now. The skies have not darkened with locusts and tomorrow there will be traffic. I do believe we will be OK.

Hit this link to read the full essay. Rollins continues to open eyes, minds, and hopefully, some hearts.
