New York Daily News: 'The Clown Who Plays King'
From the editorial board of the New York Daily News:
On the occasion of the 242nd birthday of the United States of America, again recall the words of our foundational creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Enter the current occupant of the White House, who devotes this nation’s potent energies to barricading the borders, to separating refuge-seeking mothers from children, to ordering parents to leave the country with or without their kids now that a court has ordered their reunion.
The Declaration of Independence spoke to such arbitrary cruelty, against an arrogant monarch who “has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither…”
The President who plays king won’t conquer the bedrock values this nation was founded on.

NY Daily News: Pressure Of Presidency Getting Under Trump's "Very Thin Skin"
The editorial board of the New York Daily News goes after Donald Trump in today's edition:
Donald Trump launched the Civil War’s Battle of Fifth Ave. in a staggering display of verbal weaponry Tuesday — and America lost.
In no particular order, Trump took aim at the truth, history, decency, equal justice, fair play and common courtesy in a freewheeling assault on core American values that confirms his utter unfitness for the high office it is our misfortune he occupies.
Not least on display: the pressure of the job is getting under his very thin skin.
Rebooting his Saturday blame of “many sides” for “hate, bigotry and violence,” Trump then smeared counter-protesters like Heyer — who came to support the city’s decision and stand against the retrograde forces of the alt-right Trump fans — by saying they came armed and looking for trouble.

For good measure, Trump has enormously complicated the prosecution of accused Charlottesville killer James Fields by calling him a “murderer,” creating an opportunity for lawyers for Fields to argue their client cannot get a fair trial now. Not bad for 15 minutes.
After the spectacle, as Trump continued to spout off even as he heading for the elevators, behind him dourly lurked his new chief of staff, Gen. John Kelly, brought aboard to bring some control and order to the chaos. Mission definitely not accomplished, sir.

In the aftermath of former FBI Director James Comey's testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee this week, the New York Daily News didn't pull any punches calling out President Trump.
Not only the word "LIAR" emblazoned across the front page, but bullet points from Comey's testimony including:
• Trump lied about Flynn obstruction try
• Trump lied about calling Russia case a hoax
• Trump lied about why I was fired

NY Daily News On Comey Flub: Now He Tells Us
The New York Daily News is just about as outraged as the rest of America over FBI Director James Comey's late in the game intrusion into the election followed by an "oopsie."
After nearly upending an already-raucous presidential election with an eleventh-hour reexamination of Clinton’s emails, Comey sent a letter to congressional lawmakers that left heads spinning once again.
“Based on our review, we have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July with respect to Secretary Clinton,” Comey wrote, referencing his recommendation to not press charges for Clinton’s use of a private email server. “I am very grateful to the professionals at the FBI for doing an extraordinary amount of high-quality work in a short period of time.”
Comey’s letter came nine days after a controversial note to Congress revealed the FBI was at it again, probing Clinton emails after discovering new messages tied to the latest sexting scandal involving disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner — the estranged husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin.
Comey’s last-minute meddling generated immediate calls for his ouster amid charges that he could have affected the outcome of a close presidential election. Indeed, polls showed Clinton losing support — some surveys showed her falling more than 8 percentage points — over the issue in the crucial final days before Election Day. Millions of people in early-voting states have already made up their minds and cast ballots, with the first Comey letter being their last impression before making their decisions.

New York Daily News Dubs Senate "Slaughter House" After Failure To Pass Any gun Reform
From the NY Daily News:
The GOP-controlled Senate failed to pass legislation aimed at keeping suspected terrorists from buying guns and tightening background checks Monday, shrugging off the worst mass shooting in U.S. history with more inaction.
Barely a week after the Orlando nightclub massacre that killed 49 people and just days after a 15-hour filibuster from Democrats, it felt like “Groundhog Day” on Capitol Hill, with votes falling mostly along party lines to defeat four gun control measures.
“What am I going to tell 49 grieving families? What am I going to tell those who are still in the hospital fighting for their lives?” said Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.). “Sadly, what I’m going to have to tell them is the NRA won again.”

Of course it is one thing to win a nomination and another to get the 50 million more votes that you need to become President.
Only Trump himself knows if he really thought he could pull this off. He says he did, that the only thing that surprised him, as he said to me months ago, was “how quickly it happened.” No one will ever know if he could have gotten to where he is without the low blows.
But the reason he thinks he can beat Hillary Clinton is because he just put an entire political party out of business. Republican Party. Just put an “i” in the middle. So the initials read this way: R.I.P.

New York Daily News Endorses "Super-Prepared Warrior Realist" Hillary Clinton
The New York Daily News has enthusiastically endorsed former Secretary of State just days before the New York state Democratic primary.
From the paper's editorial board:
On April 19, New York Democrats will have unusual say over the party’s nominee. They have in Clinton a superprepared warrior realist. They have in opponent Bernie Sanders a fantasist who’s at passionate war with reality. By choosing Clinton, Empire State Dems would powerfully signal that the party has gotten real about achieving long-sought goals.
Clinton is unsparingly clear-eyed about what’s wrong with America while holding firm to what’s right with America.
She fully understands the toll that adverse economic forces have taken on the country.
She is supremely knowledgeable about the powers a President can wield to lift fortunes in need of lifting.
She possesses the strength and the shrewdness to confront the tough politics of advancing an ambitious Democratic agenda in the White House.
Still more, she is a cauldron-tested globalist who had the spine to give Obama a thumb’s up for taking out Osama Bin Laden and who is far the wiser about the use of American power, having served as secretary of state and seen the consequences of the war in Iraq.
These truths about America’s most well-known public figure are long past debating among Democrats, above all in New York, the state Clinton represented in the U.S. Senate.

New York Daily News: "Drop Dead Ted"
Sen. Ted Cruz thought he had found a good attack line against Donald Trump by recently calling out Trump's "New York values" to crowds in Iowa. Trust and believe, he meant it as a slander.
But when it came up last night at the latest GOP presidential debate, Trump skillfully turned the tables telling Cruz it was very "insulting" to the people of New York who bravely face the events of 9/11.
Cruz: “Everybody understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal and pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage. And focus on money and the media.”
Trump (speaking about 9/11): "Everyone in the world loved New York, and loved New Yorkers; and I have to tell you, that was a very insulting statement."
The New York Daily News put their thoughts on the cover of today's paper as you can see above.
Columnist Mike Lupica wrote, "Ted Cruz, who only comes here with his hand out, has decided that the most diverse city the world has ever known is filled with people who all think alike. He sounds in these moments like as slow a thinker as we have ever had run for President."
"Here is what New York values are: New York values are a young guy, a paralegal, literally giving somebody he doesn’t know the shirt off his back on a subway because winter has finally come to the city and brought freezing temperatures with it. New York values are the New York taxi driver who traveled three boroughs across four days to find the guy who had left $1,400 in his cab, so he could return the money to him. You know what that really was? It was the real life of a city that Ted Cruz knows nothing about. He is simply another tourist here, one constantly on the make."

New York Daily News Lists NRA Head Wayne LaPierre As "Terrorist"
Today's cover of the New York Daily News features not only the "mass shooter of the week," Syed Farook, but goes further and pictures several of the mad men who've waged war on Americans via gun violence, including (according to NYDN) NRA head Wayne LaPierre.
"Syed Farook joins long list of murderous psychos enabled by NRA's sick gun jihad against America in the name of profit."
Although over 90% of Americans approve of common sense background checks when purchasing a gun - including a majority of NRA members, the NRA has politicians so afraid no one in Congress is able to pass anything when it comes to gun legislation.
