A FEW BEST MEN - The Soundtrack - Music Inspired By The Film

Via Press Release: Universal Music Australia will be releasing "A Few Best Men THE SOUNDTRACK - Music Inspired By The Film" this January 20th 2012 just prior to the film’s opening.

Music featured in the film has been recorded by Olivia Newton-John and remixed by International and local DJs and producers such as Chew FU (official remixes for pop artists including Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Timbaland, Mariah Carey, Roulette (who has support from some of the worlds Djing elite, such as Armand Van Helden & Kissy Sellout) and Archie who has supported Black Eyed Peas, Moby and Tiesto to name a few.

"When Stephan Elliott and Warren Fahey approached me with the idea of re-recording all of the songs featured in the film, I thought it would be fun as I was familiar with the songs from the 70s and 80s. Stephan and I had great fun recording in Los Angeles. Not only is he a great film director but a very talented music producer - full of fun, energy and musical vision. Having never done a dance and club album before, I was excited to hear what the remixers have done with these songs to make them so clever and different from the originals," said Olivia Newton-John.

'Mickey' is the first single off the album and Olivia says: "For 'Mickey', my sister Rona and I sang the chorus together and, I never realized how cheeky the words were until I read them! My vocal coach, Steve Real, kept my voice alive that day and also added his beautiful voice to the background vocals. The genius remixers worked magic!"

The soundtrack was devised and produced by music industry veteran, Warren Fahey, and film director, Stephan Elliott. Warren says: “We were lucky to find some extremely eager and talented Australian remixers and also score the extraordinary talents of Chew Fu, probably the hottest remixer on the planet.” The resulting songs are a massive musical leap for Olivia and bring her world famous voice together with sharp edged 21st century music style. It's a winning mix.

Tracks include classics such as DAYDREAM BELIEVER, AFTERNOON DELIGHT, I THINK I LOVE YOU, LOVE BOAT, LIVE IT UP, SUGAR SUGAR, DEVIL GATE DRIVE, LIVING IN THE 70s, TWO OUT OF THREE AIN’T BAD, GEORGY GIRL, MICKEY all remixed and produced with a fusion of electro house and dance making it a fantastic summer party album, and a brand new album by an iconic International Superstar!

First track ‘Weightless’ returns Olivia to her award-winning partnership with songwriter and producer John Farrar. Together they claim some of the world's biggest hits including 'You're The One I Want', 'Physical' 'Hopelessly Devoted to You', 'Have You Never Been Mellow', 'Magic' and 'If Not For You', among others.

'Weightless' was written by Farrar and his son Max Farrar and produced by the multi-award winning producer Marius de Vries (David Gray, Rufus Wainwright, Madonna, Delta Goodrem etc), Andy Bradfield (Pet Shop Boys, P.J. Harvey, Ronan Keating, Spice Girls, Kylie Minogue etc) and film director, Stephan Elliott.

Australia’s sweetheart Olivia Newton-John has more than 100 million album sales, her successes include four Grammys, numerous Country Music, American Music and Peoples Choice Awards, Ten #1 hits including “Physical,” which topped the charts for ten consecutive weeks, and over 15 top 10 singles. In 2002, Olivia was inducted into the prestigious Australian Music Hall Of Fame at the 16th Annual ARIA Awards.

A FEW BEST MEN is directed by Stephan Elliott (PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT) and Dean Craig (the Writer and Producer of DEATH AT A FUNERAL), and produced by Share Stallings, Laurence Malkin, Gary Hamilton and Antonia Barnard. The film stars Xavier Samuel (Twilight), Kris Marshall (Love Actually), Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids) and Australia’s own Olivia Newton-John, opening in cinemas nationally January 26th – Australia Day.

Laurence says: "We're thrilled with the release of this outstanding soundtrack. It takes so many elements from the movie and turns them on their head. Just like her performance on screen, this is Olivia like you've never seen or heard her before.”

  9. Will the Soundtrack be available in the USA from Amazon? I just tried to pre-order from OZ and they want $45 just for shipping.

  10. At this point, the plan is to release the CD in the US but that hasn't been firmed up YET. I am guessing the producers are waiting for a release date for the movie... but I don't know for sure.

The soundtrack will be available world-wide for digital download on Jan. 20th for sure, I have been told.

    ReplyDelete
  11. And yeah, the shipping fee to buy from Australia is a LOT. I hate to think of fans spending that just for shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Why can't Olivia sell this from her website store? It would make things much easier for the fans in the USA.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Will Mickey be a CD single with remixes? Will it be released to radio in the US? xo

    ReplyDelete
  14. Unfortunately, that would require Olivia to buy the CDs upfront from Universal in Australia. Olivia doesn't own the recording. Universal Music paid to produce the recording.

Even at a wholesale price, say $5 a CD, if she purchased 5,000 that would cost her $25,000 up front PLUS paying the import fees to bring them in the country.

If Universal Music in the US (or someone else) licenses the CD for sale in the US, they won't have to pay import fees.

  15. Which website can you pre-order the cd from in Australia?

  16. "The soundtrack will be available world-wide for digital download on Jan. 20th for sure, I have been told."

I tis including itunes in USA????????? thanks for respoding. I can't wait for the soundtrack and the film....

  17. I'm guessing it will be available on iTunes. All I've been told is "digital download available world-wide" - that could mean all major digital download sites like iTunes and Amazon... If I hear more details I'll post :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. But I prefer CD instead of mp3/digital downloading from sites (& the quality should be better from CD too!)....maybe I'm an old fashion man....lol!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Just pre-ordered from Cd Wow in the USA for $25 no shipping cost.

    ReplyDelete
  20. i ordered it from cd wow uk, £18

    ReplyDelete
  21. US$25 is cheaper than £18....by around US$2.6, I guess?? LOL!!

  22. When do we get to hear Mickey? xo Happy New Year to All!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm hoping when it's released to radio in Australia it might - MIGHT - get released somewhere online too to listen to.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hi Randy. Do you think Olivia has a chance of having a Top 40 hit with this new single/album?

    ReplyDelete
  25. On Soundcloud.com there is a slammin' house mix set by Punk Ninja (Dec 2011 mix). Can't wait to hear what they did with "Weightless"!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I definitely think it's chart worthy. It depends on the release of the movie, how much the label and movie producers push the single at radio or in the dance clubs... I could EASILY see "Mickey" going to the top of the dance charts.

It all depends on how much the powers that be get behind it. The music that I've heard is terrific!

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's #1 on pre-order at CDwow! Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Does anybody knows what is the 18 digit code of this CD for discount from cdwow??

  29. Is this going to be her "Dance" CD we have been waiting for? Or can we still expect a full length CD to include new and old Olivia fans, remixed, as originally shared in interviews? I am excited about this project, but would be sad if the later did not appear. If Mickey is the Toni Basil song, and I expect it will be, just wondering how credible it will sound. Fingers crossed that this project is done right. Sounds like it so far. Anyway, I am excited about the soundtrack and the movie. Cool to see Rona on backing vocals.

  31. No, this is a new project that came out of the new movie. There is still another project in the wings that has been put on "pause" for some months so as to not compete with the soundtrack at the same time. Olivia still plans to release that project hopefully in 2012 once A Few Best Men has played out a bit...

And yes Mickey is the Toni Basil song. It has been remixed by Chew Fu who is one of the leading producers/remixers in the world. He is a leading remixer for Lady Gaga, Madonna and other huge artists today. It's terrific in my opinion. I can tell you this - it doesn't sound like the 80s/cheerleader video.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Can't wait to hear Mickey! Can we get a sneak peak sound clip? I had a dream last night that I was at a huge danceclub and they were playing Olivia's new song "Love Boat" REMIX. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm hoping a clip will be released soon as the press release says it goes to Australian radio on Jan 9th. I don't have the song, so I don't have anything to share :(

    ReplyDelete
  34. I am going on a gay cruise in February and I need all these mixes so they can play them at the circuit parties. I know all the dj's and they all love Olivia. Last year they were mad that I forgot to bring the Tracy Young mixes onboard.

    ReplyDelete
  35. On Chew Fu's website/Facebook today, it mentions his 5 new songs with Olivia and hints "video's" coming soon!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I ordered mine, BUT I will still have to check itunes and maybe buy a few songs to tied me over until the CD arrives......

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hi Randy!! Funny that Mickey hasnt leaked out somewhere yet on the net! :-((( or no samples from the soundtrack are to be found! We all should start bugging austrialian radio to play Mickey already!! Go olivia :-)))))))

    ReplyDelete
  38. I just noticed the CD is on Amazon.com this morning :-)))))))))))

    ReplyDelete
  39. I just heard "Mickey". It is awesome and may become my favorite Olivia song of all time! I hope this hits the charts all over the world! Thanks to Chew Fu also, for that great mixing!

    ReplyDelete
  40. It looks like amazon.com might be getting the Soundtrack too. The picture comes up with the info, but it says still unavailable.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Please tell Olivia that "Mickey" is flawless and just what the fans wanted. I hope this becomes a comeback hit! Great job Chew Fu!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have heard a clip of "Mickey", let me say as a former club kid/ Raver, this is a legit dance song. I am so happy, swooning even. Livvy has a potential hit on her hands...Fingers crossed.

    ReplyDelete
  43. starhub.com has the album up with samples...there are 2 pages. Mickey is on the second page.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ok I have heard Mickey in it's entirety. I gotta say as a HUGE Olivia fan I hate it. No just kidding I actually love it. It gives new life to an old song. I hope it's a ig hit for Olivia in AUS and across the globe...come on USA!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I love Mickey too! I just hope there will be longer mixes for the clubs. Keep working with Chew Fu, he did a great job on all the songs. Has Mickey hit any charts yet?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I have made everyone I know listen to "Mickey" and they all love it. When will it be out to the radio in the USA? This needs to be a hit.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well, is the CD out yet? was it supposed to be out on 20th Jan?? No reviews from anyone yet??

    ReplyDelete
  48. I understand it is available in Oz and Spain...? Not sure what happened to the digital download that was supposed to be "world-wide" on January 20th. I think it was somehow flummoxed due to the SOPA and PIPA issues - a group called Anonymous Hackers took down the Universal Music website. It's back up but that somehow affected the release of the digital download I think...

  49. Got mine in the mail today in the USA ordered from CDWOW....all I can say is hold onto your Hats! Olivia is back in a BIG way! I think my favorite track so far is Sugar Sugar! amazing beats!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I got the CD yesterday and I love it! Especially the the remixes with Chew Fu. Mickey, I Think I Love You, & Daydream Believer are my top 3 so far. There needs to be longer mixes for the clubs. Three minutes is too short. Way to go Livvy, can't wait for the long awaited dance CD!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Got my CD today. I honestly think it's quite terrible. The remixes essentially destroyed any enjoyment of the songs -- some are so altered as to not contain hardly any of the lyrics. Olivia's voice is unrecognizable on a few tracks, and on others she really hardly sings anything.

I don't really understand the purpose of releasing remixes when there are no "primary" mixes available. If I could hear the basic, unremixed tracks, I might enjoy these songs more, but as it stands, it's merely a curiosity in the Olivia discography.

    1. Get over it! Have some fun with this! Maybe she'll put out an old-fart CD especially for you someday.

  52. I'm so dang excited to buy the CD when it comes out in the US. But if it's not out here by mid-February, i'll be ordering via CD Wow. A fan since i 1st heard her gorgeous voice in 1974, there's only so long i can hold out! Livvy's exploring new musical and vocal territory again, which is simply amazing after 45 years !!! Thank you, Olivia! And thank you, Randy, for this blog site ;-)

  53. I'd suddenly remember I got a Nephew who is studying in Aussieland & thus sent out an "urgent" e-mail seeking for his assistance...Hope he still remember me & do me a big favor by sending me one.....LOL!

  54. Thank you Olivia for making this CD! I love it more and more with each listen. I hope this a sign of things to come. Can't wait for the Dance CD and hope you have several hits from this album too. Love You!

  55. Has "Mickey" or the Soundtrack charted yet in Oz? I did find Mickey on a top 6 at 6 station in Oz. In the top 5 for two weeks. I'll do some more searching.

  56. Joy 94.9 (Melbourne) Top 6 at 6 for Friday Jan 27, 2012. #3 "Mickey"-Olivia Newton-John. Also listed "Weightless" under new releases for Feb 1, 2012.

  57. Got my CD yesterday from CDWOW...it certainly takes you in a totally different ONJ landscape both vocally and sonically...it's very cool and fun. My faves so far are "Brand New Key" (love the autotune even a bit overly done - if Cher can, why not ONJ?), "Love Boat" (not a lot of vocals but so sweet), "Weightless" (both versions), and "Devil Gate Drive"...hard to believe we have Indigo and this from the same artist...way versatile...thanks Livvy!

  61. Okay, i ordered it from CD WOW just a few days ago, and last Saturday, my 3-day weekend started with the CD coming in the mail !!! It's AWESOME !!! LOVE-LOVE-LOVE it !!! Even tho a few songs dont' have too much ON-J vocals, MOST of the 13 songs featuring her do... Oh gosh-- so far, my faves are: "WEIGHTLESS", "THE RAIN...", "BRAND NEW KEY", "I THINK I LOVE YOU", "SUGAR SUGAR", and her very soulful "TWO OUT OF THREE AIN'T BAD" --- thank you Olivia.. thank you for this GIFT of SONG !!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Whatever happened to the (very) long-awaited Dance CD??? Is it still happening? I've been waiting for years.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Still happening. The AFBM soundtrack came out of nowhere a bit, so we don't want competing CDs out there.

Once the AFBM project has run it's course, the plan is to figure out a good time when Olivia has time to release and promote the dance/pop CD.

But she's still got it in the mix... along with her Asia concert tour, release and promotion of the LivWise cookbook in UK and US, opening of ONJCWC in Melbourne, release of the ONJCWC stamp in Australia, and other things... :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Ooooh Noooo....sounds like it won't come out this year at all.....Hopefully, it comes out on time for X'mas!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Do you have the track listing? Will "A Little More Love" be remixed?

    ReplyDelete
  66. How come no video or longer remixes of "Mickey"? That song deserves to be a big hit. Please Olivia Please!
