The Nevada AIDS Project presents “Life’s A Ball,” a three-part event that celebrates life and a journey towards the cure.
The evening, which takes place in Club Nikki at the newly transformed Tropicana Las Vegas, kicks-off with an awards presentation to honor individuals who have made a difference in the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDS in the Las Vegas valley, followed by entertainment from local, national and international performers; a fashion show, and a dance party.
“Life’s A Ball” is made possible by the generous sponsorship of the all new Tropicana Las Vegas and MTV.
The star-studded event will include cast members of Absinthe, Penny and Melody Sweets, the men of Chippendales, the ladies of Fantasy, the casts of Zumanity and Bite; Miss Nevada 2011, Reva Rice, star of Vegas! The Show and People Magazine's "Hottest Bachelors" star Matt Zarley.
Special surprise guests have been mentioned - drop by and see who's at the event!
Suggested donation is $20, but no specified fee for general admission. The event is from 7pm to midnight tonight.
This event was a scam. NONE of the celebrities that were said to perform where there. Not one. What this "party" even had to do with World AIDS Day is beyond me. For shame on Nevada AIDS Project for taking advantage of so many that came thinking this supported the fight against AIDS.

ReplyDeleteYou know I was at the event and it was not a bad event at all. Ok so it did not have the VIP but the VIPs to me was the ones performing. I love it more than the Black & Whait that AFAN does... More going on. Also all the feed back from the str8 community is great but everything from the Gay Community just sucks! Hmmm It makes me think the Gay Community did like these people and The Tropicana had to of known who was ands was not coming to this event.... I think we should give the people a hand for having it and yes maybe it was not all it was made out to be but it was cool and my business sure gave did you give to anyone???? Stop kicking people ass for tring and you step to the plate next time....
ReplyDeleteI just want to say that i was very dissapointed. I was apart of beauty team that voluntereed over 15 hair & makeup artists and we were promised to do hair and makeup on celebs not to mention we gave over 50 pieces of hair products for the gift bags that were supposed to be for the VIPS and we saw all the bags on regular tables where any person could grab. Once we did all the fashion models hair and makeup we were lied to and told the celebs were in a dift green room and then we noticed the event was almost over we found out the truth, that NOONE showed up. we dont care that no VIPS showed up we would of done it anyway but its the principal that we were lied too!! the guy putting on the event couldnt even look us in the eyes aftwerwards.

I am the Founder and President of La'Bella MAFIA Hair & Makeup Design Team and we sponsored product and hair and makeup services for the event... If you were there you probably seen us running around in the black MAFIA t-Shirts and yes we too agree that the A-list star studded event wasnt exactly what it was said to be, HOWEVER my group of loving and giving designer never walked out once, we all stood up to our word and followed through because we were there for one reason only and that was to support the HIV/AIDS community A-list involvement or not. I think a lot of people got hyped up and were greedy when they thought they would get the chance to see Celebrities for a $20.00 donation... however that was NOT what the event was supposed to be about. I know some feel slided and are not happy about the out come of the event but you have to remember some Celebrities chose not to show up because they were offered paid gigs at the last minute, and to be honest if making money is more important than having integrity to stand behind your word rather you were the only Celebrity to stand on stage or not than I personally dont want those kind of people to entertain me anyhow... We put a lot of hard work and money into the event and those that did follow through on their word such as the Tropicana, La'Bella MAFIA and the performers that did follow through find it hard to hear bad things about the event we worked so hard on.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I have live in Las Vegas for 8 years and if you think you can make everyone happy your crazy! They Gay Community is sad here. If you are not in the click or you think outstide the box, the gay will get you. I know the guy that put this event together and he worked his ass off and I know after talking to him that he lost people to paid events. Like Mya she took a paid event in LA and got $8000.00 for a guy that has not 501(C)3 (Non-Profit) The other as well paid for these people to come to there place.... Look at the House of Blues Gave Cindy Lauper $10,000 to play at there club on that night.... I know not talling the truth is bad but there is two side to all stories!! You should not bash people before you know. Just like why did Chris from 8News Now put them trash drag queens on the stage to talk like they did. I have a friend that works at the Tropicana and she told me that the bad drag queens were not on the run of show and Chris was done and from the way the Tropicana is looking at it is he knew if he puts trash mouth trash drag queens on stage and they talk bad shit on an event of people like they did people will leave and the event is over ... Just like it did....
ReplyDeleteI just think you should know two sides not just one and you have to give it to the people that put the event on. Its alot of work and they pulled it off with or with out VIPS I can say I was happy to give my $20,00 to get in and would do it again.... The gay need to chill and the people need to stop judging others ..... It takes balls to put an event on.... I say bad for misleading but koodos for tring....

ReplyDeleteI'm assuming the organizer you are referring to is Bobby Townsend? Who not only organized the event, but then honored himself at the event? Correct me if I'm wrong...
It seems a little self-serving to organize an event, then honor yourself. But that's just my opinion.
Also, Cyndi Lauper spent World AIDS Day helping at the LGBT Youth Center in NYC. That didn't happen over night. You can find coverage all over the internet about her working there that day:

One of the performers at the event here in Vegas was told the day of the event AT SOUND CHECK by Bobby Townsend that the performer was going on that night after Cyndi Lauper. Do you mean Cyndi canceled between 5pm and the beginning of the event?
Alicia Keys was announced to be at the event here. The day of the event she was in Washington DC with Presidents Obama, Bush and Clinton for a huge event. I've been involved with events dealing with presidents. You don't decide to join something like that over night. It takes months of security clearances to get that done. The organizers of the event here knew Alicia Keys was not coming.
I admit you may lose SOME people for a charity event to paid gigs. But do you really believe every single A-list talent announced somehow got gigs at the very last minute? EVERY SINGLE ONE?
Where were Siegfried and Roy? Celine Dion? Barry Manilow? Any of the other A-listers??? Any?
I don't think people would have been upset if at least few (even one or two) of the announced A-listers had showed up. But NONE did.
Also, Chris Saldana did not create the run down of the evening. As host, he was handed a list to introduce. Chris Saldana made NO decisions on the show rundown.
I think the organizers of the event hurt Nevada AIDS Project by misleading - your word - the people who did show up.

DeleteI say SHAME on the Celebrities that flaked on the event to perform instead for paid gigs. Heaven forbid they contract HIV/AIDS and may our great creator above see that no life is worth a price, and karma shall rain upon them as they beg for mercy that in turn is flaked on. HIV/AIDS is not a problem its an epidemic and its obvious Cyndi Lauper, Mya, Alicia Keys, Holly Madison, Ozzy Osbourne etc only want money and dont give a shit about humanity. I wont forget that the next time they release an album because I wont be in line to buy it. However I will spit on the faces of every poster and cd I come across. This makes me sick.
ReplyDeleteBarry Manilow was there but did not perform once he got word that a few others were not going to be present and he refused to perform so lets give him an A+ for humanity, also Robin Leach was present as well. It goes much deeper than just bailing out for paid gigs its all about where will the celebrities get more free press for their pretentious will.
ReplyDeleteI was a performer in the show and I do have to say I loved the Mafia hair and makeup people they were fun and awesome and never complained once, they made us look fabulous :) thank you Labella Mafia and the silver lining is meeting caring people like them that are involved in the community and give back selflessly so not all is bad

ReplyDeleteHowever, Alicia Keys and Cyndi Lauper did not miss this event for paid gigs. Alicia Keys made an appearance in Washington DC with three Presidents to promote AIDS awareness. She was not paid for that appearance.
Cyndi Lauper joined with M.A.C cosmetics AIDS Fund to give out care packs for youngsters for World AIDS Day. She spent the day at the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and transgender Youth Center in New York's West Village giving away packs containing condoms and cosmetics and warning at risk teens of the perils of AIDS. That was not a paying gig.
Be mad at someone - but not at celebrities who did their part to raise awareness on World AIDS Day. Just because they were "announced to appear" here doesn't mean they ever agreed to. The only thing we know for sure is that is what was "announced." Have you spoken with Ms. Keys representatives? Did you see it on her website? I checked her website before the event and it was never on her own website she was coming here. Nor what it ever on Cyndi Lauper's website.
Now - why wouldn't these artists not announce they were coming if they ever truly agreed to come?
OR - is it possible they never agreed to come?

ReplyDeleteDid Bobby Townsend bold face lie to everyone? I heard from a couple friends that went it was the Bobby Townsend event and had nothing to do with HIV or AIDS so did he drum all those lies up in his head? did he intentionally fool everyone involved for his own use?
ReplyDeleteYou know really, I think there is mover things to worry about tham this. I have talk to Nevada AIDS Project Board and they said everyone that works there does it for free and NO ONE got or gets paid in anyway!! You can see this with there tax info on there web-site. So with so many other things in the world going on and right here at home. The hell with it. The guy lied it happens everyday by many people. The person putting the event together worked with the Tropicana and they should have checked every bit of the event out just like the MGM does and Ceasers I did many events with them. so you know it falls under many people it just was wrong event and its something we should all learn from you know it the people are not mad at AFAN and they have real bad shit going on, then its this or that. So now its a world AIDS Day event and this will die down and you know there will be something else. I mean look there is so many people that fuck up if this guy did all this them the non-profit knew the stood behind him and Tropicana should have checked in to it and the host should look more in to what he/she does. Yes it was wrong but there more to blame then one.

We have people with out jobs and people homeless and when I called to talk to this guy he does not work at his jobs and was told but the boss he has moved back home to the east coast, so I say let him do it there and let us learn from it and move on.
I should put this out there I was one of the sponsors of the event and I was a bit upset over what happen but I feel there is more to blame than one. A lier is a lier theres nothing you can do about that he lied. I do have to say it did have alot to do with HIV & AIDS They did have alot of information about it and you know for the most part they did have a somewhat nice event.
I really think we should move on and learn from this and support better and greater non-profits... I can not get stuck on just this event and what happen I must move on and be smarter next tme..
Move on... Its just time before something else happen that takes the place of this ...

ReplyDeleteI know Bobby and he I think has problems, I have known him for little over two years and he dreams big. I really think he did indeed what this to be big. I think if he lied thats wrong and he should not have anymore events but really there is nothing we can do but bash his name. I really think the Tropicana that hosted the event, should have REALLY chacked out everything as well. I know he a nice guy I think he just not all there in the head and we as people beleave and follow till we find out somethings wrong.
I think enough is enough the guy lied from what I was told there was not alot of people there anyway. I think there more than one to bush blame on. We should all think before we act next time.
I feel bad for him and the ones that must or could of push for him to do more they should have looked in to everything and stopped it and the performers should have looked into the event as a whole.
Just my thought and last I think putting all this engery into this is just not good. Someone (he) lied, thats life and it happens everyday. How do we know the Tropicana that has gay staff that I am sure knoew him did not support the lies.... Life is to short let just move on to better and more important things....

Hello, How do we not know that the Tropicana was not in on this. I remember I went with a few friends to see Nicki Minaj & Rihanna that was going to be a Club Nikki ealier this year and we waited and waited with a few 100 people and the Tropicana staff that was working, would keep telling us that they were not sure what time they would be showing up. Needless to say many people did get there door fee back. So you know this is NOT the first time the Tropicana has done something like this. If you look into this you will see that I am right about this and I think there a lot to blame here, not just one person not just a non-profit I think the Tropicana as well.

I really think you all are picking this person without talking to him/her, you really don't know what the Tropicana told him of them.
They made a BIG DEAL about these two coming to there club and if I remember right Rihanna or Nicki Minaj was at the MGM and it was just funny that they would be going to the Tropicana when the MGM has many clubs they could have gone to. I really don't remember which one it was that was at the MGM but one was and it you look in to this the Tropicana has history with this kind of stuff.
I really feel bad that you all are pointing your fingers at one person or a non-profit when this place in my eyes and many of my friends think the Tropicana could have been part of this or said alot knowing this would get out and who would people look at ...hmmmm
I think from what many many of my friends and other people shame on the Tropicana I can't but think that they may have had a part if not alot to do with this. They have the history for doing this....
The event seemed more like clubbing than anything but there were a few acts that came through despite the A list being non existent. I enjoyed the solemn opening of the color guard and the songs performed by the LV Men's Chorus. This was the true segment that honored the fallen and afflicted. A few of the other acts were worth the donation of $20. As for Bobby, give him a break....we all dream big sometimes....hopefully some of the funds made it to a help people with AIDS.
