I went out last night for the first time in forever.

After spending time at the gay club Piranha, this meme resonates this morning.

I'll just leave it at that ;)

Music Video: Christopher Sorensen "Afterglow"

The new music video from Christopher Sorensen, “Afterglow,” explores the dynamic between an 18-year-old teen and an older man who connect through a gay dating app.

The video chronicles the first meeting of the pair at the older man’s home, complete with cocktails and a swim in his pool.

Things do go the way of romance and there are follow-up encounters.

But when one night goes late, there’s fireworks at home after what look like a missed curfew.

As his parents argue, the young man erupts in anger and goes looking for his older paramour, only to find a surprise.

Sorensen’s reps told Towleroad that the story line is “very personal to Christopher.”

“His goal is to create a safe space for young gay men to talk about any experience where they have felt taken advantage of,” the statement continued.

“Afterglow” is the first time Sorensen has included his own LGBT identity in his music. His 2015 music video, “Balloon,” addressed bullying.

Any readers have a similar experience with dating apps? Let us know in the comments.

Exploring Who Is And What Makes A Gay "Daddy"

Eric Rutherford (L) and Patrick Dempsey (R)
(image via Instagram)

While the term “daddy” has gotten more and more popular in the gay community over the past several years, therapist Matthew Dempsey’s latest YouTube video explores what makes a gay “daddy?”

“Growing up gay, most of us didn’t have parents who shared that identity and could guide us through that experience as we stepped into adulthood. Enter the gay daddy,” Dempsey shares in the intro to the video. “Whether for friendship or romance, we can easily find ourselves drawn to older gay men for answers we never got and always needed.”

Dempsey enlists the aid of his friend and “resident daddy,” Eric Rutherford, to chat on how being a gay “daddy” affects gay men in regard to aging, dating, and taking care of yourself mentally and physically.

First up, Dempsey and Rutherford note some of the physical reasons why some men are labeled “daddy.”

Dempsey shares that he’s begun to get called daddy in part due to his greying hair and also thanks to being a therapist. But Rutherford, who works as a model for IMG, says when he was younger he felt a daddy was someone who displayed physical/muscular stature, presence and maturity.

There’s also aspect of whether or not some men “own” their age and experience. It’s no secret that gay culture can be a bit youth-obsessed.

Rutherford, who allows his hair to grey naturally but cops to occasionally using botox, encourages a balance in addressing how we physically age. “You can’t hide behind it, because no matter what, you could have all this done, fixed,” he says. “At the end of the day it’s still you.”

Dempsey concurs adding, “If at the core you’re really wrestling with deeper seated things about not feeling good about who you are, if you just look to the exterior to be the thing that’s gonna fix that, it’s not gonna work.”

Side note: I think Mr. Rutherford's exterior is just fine. Definitely qualifies as "daddy" material.

When it comes to dating and sexual attraction regarding a daddy, Rutherford notes that when he was younger he was attracted to older guys, but as he’s reached his 40s and 50s he now dates a man 17 years his junior.

However, Rutherford admits that initially he had reservations about dating a younger man because he had “some judgement about a stereotype” not wanting to fall into a “sugar daddy” kind of role.

Both men agree that mental outlook is also an important component to daddyhood.

Instead of allowing age to become a negative in his mind, Rutherford, who’s 51, says he works everyday to keep a positive perspective and “living my best life to the fullest.”

“And I don’t have it all together by any means,” he says. “Every day I still wake up, I’m curious, I want to learn more, I want to experience more.”

And as a man who’s been sober for years, Rutherford says he stays grounded by making a conscious effort to stop and express gratitude for what he has achieved.

That doesn’t mean everyone escapes the pressures of aging. Rutherford shares that the “first big love” of his life committed suicide when he reached his 60s feeling he had “aged out” of gay culture.

“He was wildly accomplished, good-looking guy, incredible friends,” gushes Rutherford. But he adds that his former partner “felt invisible in this community and this culture - he wasn’t wanted.”

It’s an interesting chat for anyone who is, or is attracted to, a gay daddy. Watch below.

"Will & Grace" Explores The World Of Dating Younger Men

With the reboot of Will & Grace acknowledging the passage of time, it makes total sense that we would see both Will and Jack explore the idea of dating younger men.

And that's exactly what we get.

In this clip from Thursday's upcoming episode, titled "Who's Your Daddy?," both men are coping with the angst of not only younger paramours, but coping with their own ages.

Jack attempts various ways to look younger (incorporating some hilarious physical comedy) while Will wonders if it might be "creepy" that he's getting amorous with a 23-year-old (played by Tony Award winner Ben Platt of Dear Evan Hansen fame).

“So what, they’re young and hot, and we’re old and not. Nothing else matters!” screams Jack. “We need this.”

Will & Grace airs Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.

Gerald McCullouch Talks "Daddy" & "Bear City 3"

Director/actor Gerald McCullouch chats on his new indie film, DADDY, and the upcoming BEAR CITY 3 in this episode of my online radio show, The Randy Report.

I know so many of you read my posts here on the blog, I really encourage you to hit the player below and hear what I actually sound like when I'm interviewing folks.

As an actor, Gerald ("Bones," "NCIS," "House") is recognized around the world for his 10 seasons as Bobby Dawson on “CSI," as well as his critically praised portrayal of "Roger" in the Bear City movies.

Thanks to the global and diverse fan bases of “CSI” and the Bear City movies, he was honored as one of the 100 most compelling people in OUT Magazine’s “OUT 100," and featured in The New York Daily News, LA Daily News, The New York Post, US Weekly and The Advocate, among others.

Gerald originated the role of "Colin" in the NYC world premiere stage production of DADDY and produced the critically acclaimed West Coast premiere, in which he also starred, receiving rave reviews.

DADDY The Movie fared equally as well with the critics. Here are a few quotes from critics:

The Film Reel: “It’s hard to say that the film is anything but wonderful…outstanding.. very powerful and filled with emotion…a fantastic film.”

Out Films: "DADDY" Now Available For Streaming & Download

Award-winning actor Gerald McCullouch directs/stars in DADDY

I'm excited to share that the award-winning film DADDY is now available on iTunes, Video On Demand, and most cable systems - plus, if you're in Los Angeles April 8th you can see the movie on the big screen at Arena Cinema Hollywood.

Making his directorial debut, Gerald McCullouch (the BEAR CITY trilogy, CBS's "CSI") stars alongside DADDY screenwriter Dan Via, with Smash’s Jaime Cepero, Tamlyn Tomita, Tony Award winner John Rubenstein, Jay Jackson and Mackenzie Astin.

McCullouch was named Best Actor at the 2015 California Independent Film Festival, where DADDY made its U.S. debut, and was honored as one of the 100 most compelling people by OUT.

The film was lauded by critics like The Film Reel, which wrote, “It’s hard to say that the film is anything but wonderful... very powerful and filled with emotion.”

Progressive Pulse calls the movie "an impressive directorial debut" with "beautiful performances."

The flick is based on Via’s stage play which had a critically acclaimed world premiere in New York City, followed by subsequent success in a Los Angeles run.

I saw the play in LA and found the artistry of the writing and the performances compelling and provacative. The story doesn't exactly take you where you think you're headed, and that's all I'll say about that. I was happily surprised at the issues explored - best friends, boy friends, family relations - and how skillfully they were interwoven without being heavy handed.

The film premiered at the Montreal World Film Festival in fall 2015, where Progressive Pulse raved DADDY features “wonderful and beautiful performances." DADDY went on to win awards at the California Independent Film Festival and Atlanta’s Out on Film International LGBT Film Festival.

Official Synopsis:

Colin McCormack thinks he has it all — a great job, a steady stream of hot younger guys, and a best friend whose devotion he takes for granted. But when a charming and mercurial intern sweeps him off his feet, Colin sees a chance for something more: A family of his own. What he discovers instead is a shattering secret that may cost Colin everything — and everyone — he holds dear.

Watch the trailer below. Congrats Gerald!

"Daddy Ref" Clete Blakeman & His Biceps Win The Super Bowl

Glad to see I wasn't the only one tracking Super Bowl referee Clete Blakeman throughout the game last night.

According to NewNowNext, 51-year-old Blakeman is a former University of Nebraska-Lincoln Huskers quarterback, and a happily married personal injury attorney living in Omaha.

Apparently, much of the Twitterverse was as obsessed with him as well.

DADDY The Movie World Premieres At Montreal World Film Festival

Gay themed play-turned-feature-film DADDY, starring BearCity star (hottie) Gerald McCullouch, will world premiere today at prestigious Montreal World Film Festival.

DADDY chronicles the intergenerational tale of an older gay male (played by McCullouch) falling for a younger man played by Jaime Cepero, from the NBC show Smash. McCullouch not only stars in the flick but also directed.

Montreal Gazette talked with the handsome McCullouch about whether being out has affected his acting career:

I get asked that question a lot. And I really don’t know how it’s affected my career. I only have the career I have.

I’ve never been one to hide who I am or what I think. And I’ve never understood people’s belief that my eye color, or shoe size, or sexual orientation limits my imaginative capacity to pretend to be someone different.

Mind you, I’ve also appeared in many non-gay-themed shows like Bones and House and Law & Order and many others where I have a wife and kids and no affinity for dudes at all.

And I think the terrain is changing daily of opportunities for out actors and artists. But I’ve been “out” since before it was in fashion. Never really considered being “in.” Not sure what my life would have been. Or my career. Only know the life I have.

DADDY screens at Cinema Quartier Latin at the Montreal World Film Festival:
Aug. 30 at 4:10 p.m.
Aug. 31 at 9 p.m.

Trailer: DADDY Starring Gerald McCullouch

Very excited to share the official trailer for the upcoming film DADDY starring Gerald McCullouch (who is also making his feature film directorial debut).

Audiences know hunky/handsome Gerald from a multitude of roles including the Bear City films, years on the original CSI TV series, the award-winning Hustling web series and more.

Synopsis:

Colin McCormack thinks he has it all — a great job, a steady stream of hot younger guys, and a best friend whose devotion he takes for granted. But when a charming and mercurial intern sweeps him off his feet, Colin sees a chance for something more: A family of his own. What he discovers instead is a shattering secret that may cost Colin everything — and everyone — he holds dear.

The film will have it's world premiere as at the UBER-prestigious Montreal World Film Festival on August 30th.

The film will see it's US premiere at the California Independent Film Festival in San Francisco this September at The Castro Theater.

I saw the play that the film is based on in Los Angeles with McCullouch, and I can attest to not only the humor but the power of the play. Can't wait to see the movie.

Congrats to Gerald and company!

See the play DADDY in Los Angeles

Last night, I saw the play DADDY at the Hudson Theater on Santa Monica Blvd in LA.

I didn't know anything about the play going in. I had worked with one of the lead actors several years ago in an off-Broadway production, and another cast member from that production - the brilliantly talented Jamison Stern - was in town to see the play, so I was up for a reunion and I always love being in a theater seeing good theater.

And that's exactly what I got. The play, written by Dan Via, who also stars as one of the leading roles, is terrific and surprising. The play doesn't exactly take you where you think you're headed, and that's all I'll say about that. I was happily surprised at the issues explored - best friends, boy friends, family relations - and how skillfully they were interwoven without being heavy handed.

Gerald McCullouch, from CSI and the recent indie hit film Bear City, brings sensitivity, warmth and confidence to the role of Colin who is soon challenged by a twist of fate as the events of the play unfold. He and Via, who play best friends, have chemistry that easily demonstrates the comfort of long term friendship.

Ian Verdun, who plays the younger man Tee, is alternately exuberant and disturbing in a tight, edgy performance.

One thing that can often be an issue with small theater productions is presenting the material without a sense of being cramped in a small stage space. Rick Sparks directs the play with a terrific sense of pace, and uses the set - designed by Adam Flemming - to create multiple locations effortlessly. Kudos also to Francois-Pierre Couture for a lighting design that effortlessly helps move the audience from one location to another with a striking sense of intimacy.

Click here for ticket and theater info.

Seriously, go see it this weekend.
