Russell Tovey & Wentworth Miller Deliver Same-Sex "Super-Kiss" In Primetime

Being the comic book geek that I am, I caught up on The CW's "Crisis On Earth X" last night in one four-hour binge.

I loved it! So well done across all four CW shows - The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.

Plus, there were two (TWO!) same-sex relationships incorporated into the storylines.

First, we saw Supergirl's sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh) connecting with White Canary (Caity Lotz).

And, we were treated to two gay super-heroes kiss in primetime! And the heroes were played by two openly gay actors (Wentworth Miller, Russell Tovey).

Russell Tovey To Play Gay Super-Hero On Super Crossover Storyline On The CW

Woofy actor Russell Tovey (HBO's Looking, Being Human) will take a turn as gay super-hero The Ray in an upcoming four-episode storyline that will crossover four current shows on The CW.

From The CW website:

Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice — he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.

Look for the "Crisis on Earth-X" event November 27-28 airing across Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash and Arrow.

Comic book fans have no problem with many of their favorite heroes being gay. But when their stories get translated to the silver screen, their sexuality gets a make-over. Why exactly is that?

This trailer calls for studios such as Marvel and DC to include diverse characters in their films and give LGBT kids a hero they can look up to.

Iceman, Mystique, Catwoman and many other well known superheroes are written as LGBT in the comic books, only to then appear as straight when they hit the big screen.

Launching in partnership with MCM Comic Con today and following #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend trending last week, this trailer gives fans the first opportunity to see LGBT superheroes accurately brought to life.

“This project has been been completed created by volunteers,” said Director Mike Buonaiuto. “We hope that we can demonstrate to the studios that there is a huge audience for accurate LGBT portrayal on the big screen, and it won’t deter cinema­goers to buy tickets.”
