Iceman & Pyro Mix Fire And Ice In New "X-Men: Gold" Comic Book

Growing up, I was truly a super-hero comic book fanatic. They were my escape.

Little did I know the allegories being taught and the messages being sent by heroic figures in those pages and pages of fantasy.

Fast forward to today, where a member of the X-Men, Bobby Drake ("Iceman") is now openly gay and in a new issue, has a one-night stand with fire-powered super-mutant Simon Lasker, also known as "Pyro."

I guess opposites really do attract.

In X-Men: Gold #32, Pyro is revealed exiting the bathroom announcing that the shower is free before adding, “Or, I could go back in if you want company.”

Drake hems and haws as he tries to tell Pyro, "I thought we agreed last night was a onetime thing."

Pyro offers a cheeky, "Actually, if I'm counting right, last night was a three-time thing..."

Unfortunately, the super-heroes are then interrupted by a noise.

Iceman formally came out in 2015, during a time-travel episode that took him to the future to meet his older self.

In that story line, its the newly-out younger Bobby Drake that addresses the issue with his future, still-closeted self.

I know, I know, that time travel thing gets complicated.

In any case, here's hoping Iceman works things out for something more permanent with Pryo.

Time will tell.

• Authorities in Turkey have declared a ban on all LGBT cultural events in the capital of Ankara until further notice to "maintain public order".

• For the comic book geeks (like me): Justice League had a disappointing showing at the box office as the super-hero flick only grossed $96 million domestically in its opening weekend. Compare that to rival Marvel Studios The Avengers which debuted in 2012 raking in a then-record $204.7 million domestically. Justice League earned $185.5 million from 65 markets internationally.

• Anti-LGBT groups continue to stand by embattled Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore despite the heinous allegations of sexual misconduct with teens.

• A British woman who attempted to renege on her agreement to serve as a surrogate mother for a gay couple, wanting to keep the now-18-month-old child, has lost in court. The mother had no biological connection to the child — both men donated sperm paired with an egg from a Spanish donor.

The Flash Reveals "Kid Flash"

The CW's The Flash has shared a sneak peek at Keiynan Lonsdale, the show's upcoming new hero, "Kid Flash." Lonsdale makes his first appearance in costume during tonight's Season 3 premiere.

The sneak peek comes on the heels of Grant Gustin revealing that The Flash will be adapting the famed Flashpoint comic book storyline, in which Barry Allen finds himself in an alternate timeline where his mother is no longer dead, and most of the world’s heroes are more like villains these days: Aquaman is at war with Wonder Woman; Batman is Thomas Wayne, not Bruce Wayne; and Captain Cold is actually a Central City hero named Citizen Cold.

It’s unclear if Wally’s new powers come as a result of being affected by the second particle accelerator explosion — in which Barry tried to get his powers back — or if this Kid Flash exists purely in the Flashpoint storyline. It’s likely the former since the show has invested in creating this costume, so Wally should be going full Kid Flash this season — maybe even as a result of Barry’s absence. Now the question remains whether Jesse Quick was also affected and obtained powers.

The Flash returns Tuesday, July 12 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.

Trailer: "#LGBTSUPERHEROES"

Comic book fans have no problem with many of their favorite heroes being gay. But when their stories get translated to the silver screen, their sexuality gets a make-over. Why exactly is that?

This trailer calls for studios such as Marvel and DC to include diverse characters in their films and give LGBT kids a hero they can look up to.

Why are LGBT Superheroes missing or desexualised in hollywood blockbusters?

Iceman, Mystique, Catwoman and many other well known superheroes are written as LGBT in the comic books, only to then appear as straight when they hit the big screen.

Launching in partnership with MCM Comic Con today and following #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend trending last week, this trailer gives fans the first opportunity to see LGBT superheroes accurately brought to life.

“This project has been been completed created by volunteers,” said Director Mike Buonaiuto. “We hope that we can demonstrate to the studios that there is a huge audience for accurate LGBT portrayal on the big screen, and it won’t deter cinema­goers to buy tickets.”

CW's "The Flash" Will Make Cross-Over Appearance On CBS's "Supergirl"

I don't know if it's the idea that we can find more inside us than we suspect, or just the fantasy of all the special abilities we see across the many comic book universes, but comic book super heroes have held my attention as long as I can remember.

I watched every season of Smallville, and I'm completely up-to-date on Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl.

When these characters are brought to life on TV well, when they bring a humanity to characters who were in the past only two dimensional, it still gets my engine revved up.

News comes to day that The CW's The Flash character will be making an appearance on the March 28th episode of CBS's new show Supergirl. I think it helps that, while on competing networks, the shows share the same executive producers.

Details on the episode are being kept under wraps. There’s also no word yet on whether Melissa Benoist will return the favor and appear on The Flash. However, here’s why this crossover is important: If Barry Allen can make his way to National City, that means so too can Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) in the future.

Though the Emerald Archer is missing from this initial outing, having The Flash first crossover with Supergirl seems a little more plausible considering they’re both metahuman and superhero-heavy shows. But since Barry Allen lives in a neighboring town to Oliver Queen, that means that Kara Danvers (Benoist) hails from the same universe. Therefore, the possibility for a future crossover with Arrow isn’t improbable — it’s just not happening right now.

“We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we starting making Supergirl —The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up!” said The Flash and Supergirl executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg.

Trailer: "Deadpool"

Four million views in a day.

Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool.

Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

The trailer also includes our first look at hunky X-man "Colossus" (Serbian actor Stefan Kapicic). Whoo-hoo!

The Marvel flick opens February 12th.

Sneak Peek: "Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice"

Warner Brothers dropped this sneak peek at Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice just two days ago and it's already racked up over 8 million views.

The two things of interest here (besides Henry Cavill, who is "of interest" at all times to me, so that's a given):

1. Batman is often seen in a tight jam. And he always gets out. But we rarely see him look this vulnerable. Why is this clip what WB wants us to see?

2. The anger in Superman's face is so intense you have to wonder "what up, Supes?" According to sources, we know there's kryptonite in the film, so did someone use it for a kind of mind-control over the Man of Steel? Or, is this a dream sequence?

The rest of the trailer will debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight.

Preview For Season Two Of THE FLASH

Pardon me as I geek out just a bit - the CW just dropped the preview for the new season of THE FLASH premiering October 6th.

Regular readers of The Randy Report know I grew up voraciously reading comic books and I get all "geeky" over the recent spate of super-hero movies and TV shows. And let's face it - who hasn't imagined having some sort of super ability in their life :)

In this preview, we get out first look at new characters (some heroes, some villains), plus the news that folks from "another world" will be keeping Barry Allen ("The Flash") busy in Season 2.

Wonder Woman Officiates Same-Sex Wedding

In the latest issue of Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman (#48) released this week, Wonder Woman officiates a same-sex wedding, to the surprise of Superman.

After averting a war, Wonder Woman ends the day by officiating the wedding of a lesbian she met while volunteering in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina.

Superman’s alter ego Clark Kent asks in surprise: ‘You officiate weddings? Is no detail too small for Wonder Woman.’

‘I’m licensed in every state and country that would allow me. I don’t do it often,’ she replies.

When Kent says he didn’t know she was a proponent of gay marriage, she gives the perfect response: ‘Clark, my country is all women. To us, it’s not ‘gay’ marriage. It’s just marriage.’

Official synopsis:

SUPERGIRL is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman's (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret.

Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Golden Globe Award winner Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet's former photographer, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), as her new art director. However, Kara's days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats.

Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.

First Look At CBS' Supergirl

As production begins on the upcoming CBS pilot for Supergirl (exec produced by Greg Berlanti), we get our first look at what the Girl Of Steel will look like in costume.

See the pic above of Melissa Benoist (GLEE, Whiplash) as "Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-el" in her costume designed by 3-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, who also designed the costumes for current DC Comics TV series Arrow and The Flash.

Looking to land in the CBS schedule for 2015/2016 season, the show will follow Kara as she comes to Earth as a 24 year old and learns to become the super-hero she's meant to be.

In addition to Benoist, the cast includes Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal, Brothers & Sisters), who will play Kara’s tough boss, Cat Grant; plus, Broadway favorite Laura Benanti in a major recurring role as Kara’s birth mother, "Alura."

Of course, for the serious fans, you've got to love this bit of casting news: Helen Slater, who starred in the 1984 “Supergirl” feature, and Superman vet Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) have been announced for future episodes but the roles have been kept under wraps.
