Trump's Approval Rating Drops To Lowest Level In CBS News Poll

CBS News Poll this morning shows President Trump with a 36% approval rating, his lowest in a CBS News Poll since he took office.

His disapproval rating stands at 57%.

The drop in approval comes, in great part, in an 11 point drop in support from Republicans, from 83% in April to 72% approval now.

Almost two out of three Americans (63%) disapprove of Trump's handing of the Russian investigation into interference in the 2016 election. Only 28% of those polled approve.

The poll also found 40 percent of Republicans now think it is at least somewhat likely the Trump campaign had improper contact with Russia, up from 25 percent in March.

TV: Star Trek Will See New Reboot By CBS

Producer Alex Kurtzman has announced he will produce a new series based on the Star Trek saga, but with a new twist.

The new series, set to premiere in January 2017, will have a "special preview broadcast" and then be available exclusively on CBS All Access - the network's digital streaming service.

The new series "will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966," according to the release.

“This new series will premiere to the national CBS audience, then boldly go where no first-run Star Trek series has gone before — directly to its millions of fans through CBS All Access,” Marc DeBevoise, executive vice president/general manager of CBS Digital Media, said in a statement. It will be CBS All Access' first original series.”

CBS All Access already features every episode of every previous Star Trek series.

The new series premiere will air on the heels of the original series' 50th anniversary celebration.

New Laverne Cox Legal Drama For CBS Gets Second Chance Pilot

A new legal drama for CBS - "Doubt" - will get a second chance at life as the network has ordered a reshoot of the pilot after recasting the lead with "Grey's Anatomy" star, Katherine Heigl.

Returning in her original principal role is "Orange Is The New Black" star and transgender activist Laverne Cox.

Apparently, while the show was not picked up this past spring, the network asked for rewriting and various roles to be recast.

Original cast members Dulé Hill, Dreama Walker, Elliott Gould, Kobi Libii and “Orange Is the New Black’s” Laverne Cox will still star in the repiloting of “Doubt” with Cox playing Cameron Wirth, a trans Ivy League-educated lawyer who’s both competitive and compassionate.

Described as fierce and funny, Cameron’s own experience with injustice causes her to fight even harder for all of her clients.

SUPERGIRL is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman's (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret.

Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Golden Globe Award winner Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet's former photographer, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), as her new art director. However, Kara's days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats.

Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.

First Look At CBS' Supergirl

As production begins on the upcoming CBS pilot for Supergirl (exec produced by Greg Berlanti), we get our first look at what the Girl Of Steel will look like in costume.

See the pic above of Melissa Benoist (GLEE, Whiplash) as "Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-el" in her costume designed by 3-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, who also designed the costumes for current DC Comics TV series Arrow and The Flash.

Looking to land in the CBS schedule for 2015/2016 season, the show will follow Kara as she comes to Earth as a 24 year old and learns to become the super-hero she's meant to be.

In addition to Benoist, the cast includes Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal, Brothers & Sisters), who will play Kara’s tough boss, Cat Grant; plus, Broadway favorite Laura Benanti in a major recurring role as Kara’s birth mother, "Alura."

Of course, for the serious fans, you've got to love this bit of casting news: Helen Slater, who starred in the 1984 “Supergirl” feature, and Superman vet Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) have been announced for future episodes but the roles have been kept under wraps.

CBS Christmas Special To Feature Gay Couple For First Time

CBS' annual Christmas special - Home For The Holidays - will feature a gay couple and their family for the first time:

Home for the Holidays aims to promote awareness of the need for adoptive families for more than 400,000 children in foster care. This year’s telecast, set for Dec. 19, will highlight the story of Rich Valenza, who adopted a 5-year-old and 4-year-old brother and sister shortly before he met his now-partner Jared Gee.

The special produced in association with the Children’s Action Network features adoptions stories mixed with musical performances. This year’s lineup includes Jennifer Hudson, Train, Earth Wind & Fire, Rixton and Katharine McPhee.

This year marks the 16th edition of the popular holiday special.

CBS signs on for SUPERGIRL series

Supergirl coming to CBS soon

Greg Berlanti, producer of the CW's ARROW and THE FLASH, has inked a deal to bring the story of Supergirl, Superman's cousin, to the small screen.

You'll recall SMALLVILLE, which chronicled a young Clark Kent growing into his destiny as Superman ran for 10 years on the CW.  That series also featured the character of "Kara" as a recurring role.

The official description reads:

"Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago.

"Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin.

"But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be."

New CBS series "Partners" to star Michael Urie of "Ugly Betty" & "How To Succeed..."

From Playbill: CBS has announced its new primetime lineup for the 2012-13 season. The new comedy "Partners," starring Ugly Betty/How to Succeed's Michael Urie and David Krumholtz (Conversations with My Father), will air Monday nights at 8:30 PM ET.

Based on the lives of creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick, "Partners," according to CBS, is "about two life-long best friends and business partners whose 'bromance' is tested when one of them is engaged to be married. Joe (Krumholtz) is an accomplished architect who leads with his head and not his heart, especially in his love life. That's in stark contrast to his gay co-worker, Louis (Urie), who is spontaneous, emotional and prone to exaggeration. Both have found joy in their love lives: Joe is newly engaged to Ali (Sophia Bush), a beautiful and sophisticated jewelry designer, while Louis is dating Wyatt (Brandon Routh), a vegan nurse who Louis insists is just a promotion away from becoming a doctor. As news of Joe's engagement settles, time will tell if their business and personal bond can adapt to the addition of two other important relationships." James Burrows directed the pilot.
