James Comey: Vote Trump Out In Landslide Without Impeachment

During a Q&A session at Manhattan's 92nd Street Y in New York City on Sunday night, former FBI Director James Comey told the audience that the answer to the scandal-ridden Trump administration is voting him out in a landslide in 2020, not impeachment.

“All of us should use every breath we have to make sure the lies stop on January 20, 2021,” Comey told an audience at the 92nd Street Y on New York City’s Upper East Side. He all but begged Democrats to set aside their ideological differences and nominate the person best suited to defeating Trump in an election.

Comey said he hoped that Trump would be swept out of office without being impeached. Framing the rise of Trumpism as a political ill the country needed to exorcise at the ballot, he expressed a hope that Americans would “in a landslide rid ourselves of this attack on our values.”

“Removal by impeachment would muddy that,” he said, and potentially leave a third of the country feeling like their chosen leader had been removed in a “coup.”

For what it's worth, I wholeheartedly agree.

First, even though a Democratic-led House of Representatives might vote for articles of impeachment, the Republican-controlled Senate would never vote Trump out.

Second, the democratic process would be viewed as a much more widespread solution than, as Comey says, a Trumper-viewed 'coup.'

James Comey Drops Challenge To Congressional Subpoena In Exchange For Full-Transcript Release

NBC News reports that former FBI Director James Comey has dropped his legal challenge to a Republican congressional subpoena and will agree to closed-door deposition.

However, lawmakers agreed to release a full transcript of his testimony within 24 hours, and he will be free to make all or part of it available to the public.

Comey had been subpoenaed by House Republicans to discuss Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server (again) as well as Russian interference in the 2016 election behind closed doors. Comey opposed the private setting in an effort to make sure the American people would be able to know exactly what was discussed.

Comey’s attorneys argued in their challenge to the subpoena that Republicans had “abused their powers with selective leaks" in the past.

James Comey's Blockbuster Memoir, "A Higher Loyalty," Sells 600K Copies In First Week

Whether Donald Trump and the Trumpers like it or not, former FBI Director James Comey's new memoir, A Higher Loyalty, is an instant blockbuster having sold over 600,000 units in it's first week.

From The New York Times:

The early sales figures for Mr. Comey’s book dwarfed other recent political best sellers. Hillary Clinton’s memoir, “What Happened,” sold more than 300,000 copies in all formats in its first week on sale.

And “Fire and Fury,” Michael Wolff’s explosive look inside the Trump White House, sold around 200,000 hardcover copies in its first full week on sale, according to NPD BookScan, which tracks about 85 percent of print sales. Mr. Wolff’s book, which came out in January, has sold more than 2 million copies to date.

Mr. Comey has no doubt benefited from wall-to-wall television coverage. He has given revealing interviews on every major news network, drawing angry tweets from President Trump, which in turn prompted more news coverage of the book.

That cycle will likely drag on as Mr. Comey continues his book promotion tour this week with an appearance at a CNN Town Hall and an interview on Fox News Channel.

According to the publisher, multiple reprints have been ordered.

In this highly polarized political landscape, Amazon has limited reviews of the book to people who actually purchased the memoir from the website to avoid skewing the ratings.

Of the nearly 800 reviews of the tome on Amazon, 90% are 5-stars raves.

As The Times points out, the Trump followers/Comey haters were basically too cheap to actually buy the book before they got ready to hate on it.

Released Comey Memos Backfire On Trump & GOP

Former FBI Director James Comey's personal memos detailing his meetings with Donald Trump were released last night to Congress and, of course, are now out for public consumption.

Trump immediately took to Twitter to declare the memos cleared him of any "collusion" or "obstruction," which is false.

Here on Earth One, nowhere in Comey’s memos does he say that Trump did not collude or obstruct justice. The Pulitzer Prize-winning Politifact site dubbed Trump's claim "Pants On Fire" lying.

Here's just a few items from the newly-released memos:

• "The president spoke an overwhelming majority of the time. He never asked me an open-ended question or left it to me to choose a topic of conversation."

• The pee-pee thing in the Steele dossier really, really bothers Trump.

"I said, the Russians allegedly had tapes involving him and prostitutes at the Presidential Suite at the Ritz Carlton in Moscow from about 2013. He interjected: 'there were no prostitutes; there were never prostitutes.' He then said something about him being the kind of guy who didn't need to 'go there' and laughed (which I understood to be communicating that he didn't need to pay for sex.)"

"He said '2013' to himself as if trying to remember that period of time ... He said he always assumed that hotels he stayed in when he travels are wired in some way. I replied that I do as well."

"He then started talking about all the women who had falsely accused him of grabbing or touching them (with particular mention of a 'stripper" who said he grabbed her) ... "

"The President said 'the hookers thing' is nonsense but that Putin had told him 'we have some of the most beautiful hookers in the world.'"

"He said he thought maybe he should ask me to investigate the whole thing to prove it was a lie."

• Comey did, in fact, notate that Trump specifically asked for "loyalty."

"He [said] that he needed loyalty and expected loyalty. I did not reply, or even nod or change my facial expression, which he noted because we came back to it later."

• Trump wondered about having journalists arrested:

“The president ... [returned] to the issue of finding leakers ... I said something about the value of putting a head on a pike as a message. He replied by saying it may involve putting reporters in jail. 'They spend a couple days in jail, make a new friend, and they are ready to talk.' I laughed."

Let's Go To The Video Tape: Trump Contradicts Himself On Comey Firing

Before arriving at the White House, I'm certain Donald Trump was not accustomed to having folks follow, track and hold him to his word about most issues.

He was the boss of the Trump Organization, and if you wanted to work there, you just let the boss be the boss.

But as president, the Trumpster is finding out that, yes, folks are paying attention and we keep a record of everything you say.

So there wasn't any difficulty involved when the Donald tweeted this morning that former FBI Director James Comey "was not fired because of the phony Russia investigation" to jump back a year when he told Lester Holt of NBC News that he specifically fired Comey over the "Russia thing."

By the way, this is why Donald doesn't give press conferences any more. He would most certainly be asked about his self-inflicted contradictions.

James Comey To USA Today: Trump Is "Morally Unfit To Be President"

Shortly after former FBI Director James Coney's interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos last night, a second, in-depth conversation with Comey was released that had been conducted by USA Today reporters Susan Page and Kevin Johnson.

From USA Today:

"I actually believe he's morally unfit to be president," Comey told USA TODAY in an exclusive interview Friday at his home in the Virginia suburbs outside Washington. He called that characterization appropriate for "someone who is able to see moral equivalence in (white nationalist protests in) Charlottesville or to speak and treat women like they're pieces of meat and to lie constantly and who appears to lack an external moral framework" of religion or philosophy or history.

In an even more explosive comment, Comey said it would be less than honest to rule out the possibility that Trump had been compromised by one of the United States' primary foreign adversaries.

"It's hard to explain some things without at least leaving your mind open to that being a possibility," said Comey, who has served three presidents in senior posts. "There's a non-zero possibility that the Russians have some, some sway over him that is rooted in his personal experience, and I don't know whether that's the business about the activity in a Moscow hotel room or finances or something else."

Trump's Sunday Morning Meltdown Takes James Comey's Book To #1

Donald Trump woke up this Sunday morning on a mission - to help James Comey sell as many books as possible when Comey's memoir, A Higher Loyalty, is released on Tuesday.

From some tried-and-true "Crooked Hillarys" and a "Slimeball!" thrown in for good measure, Trump tried to create his own reality denying he ever asked Comey for his loyalty.

Since Trump now likes the phrase "Mission Accomplished!" so much, I'll point out that his Twitter rant took Comey right to #1 on the Amazon book charts.

Poll: More Americans Trust Former FBI Director James Comey Than Donald Trump

A new ABC News/Washington Post poll indicates more Americans trust former FBI Director James Comey to tell the truth than President Trump.

The survey, conducted from April 8-11, showed that 48% of respondents find Comey "more believable" than Trump, who only garnered 32% support for truth-telling.

The poll comes as Comey's upcoming book, A Higher Loyalty, is scheduled to hit book stores on Tuesday.

Trump famously fired Comey from the FBI after becoming frustrated over the investigation into possible collusion with Russian actors in interfering with the 2016 presidential election.

Almost half of those polled (47%) indicated disapproval of Trump’s decision to fire Comey, compared to only 33% who said they approve.

Of course, Trump labels Comey a "LEAKER & LIAR" but along the way Trump also accuses Comey of leaking classified information (not true) and that he lied to Congress (again, a big nope).

Trump really gets into the school yard dirt with a good old "untruthful slime ball" tag and proclaims it was a "great honor" to fire Comey from the FBI.

If there was any doubt that former FBI Director James Comey's upcoming book, A Higher Loyalty, would be a bestseller, this is all you need to know:

Axios is reporting that Comey has taped an exclusive interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, set to air Sunday at 10 p.m. as a "20/20" special.

Sources tell Axios the one-on-one with Comey is "going to shock the president and his team."

In an ABC promo, Stephanopoulos says Comey compared Trump to "a mob boss."

Comey's book, "A Higher Loyalty," is out next Tuesday. He taped the interview Monday at his Washington-area home.

Clearly, whatever the kids over at Fox News were chatting on this morning really put the screws to Donald Trump as he vented vociferously about fired FBI officials Andrew McCabe and James Comey on  Twitter.

First, Trump accused Comey of lying under oath to a Senate committee writing, "Wow, watch Comey lie under oath to Senator G when asked “have you ever been an anonymous source...or known someone else to be an anonymous source...?” He said strongly “never, no.” He lied as shown clearly on @foxandfriends."

Then The Donald went after Andrew McCabe after reports that McCabe, like Comey, kept contemporaneous notes after every meeting with Trump.

See, that's what FBI agents are trained to do so they can recall details more clearly should they need to in the future. But, alas, Trump doesn't really grasp the concept of taking notes or being detail oriented.

Trump finally lied to his followers saying Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team is full of Democrats out to get him: "Why does the Mueller team have 13 hardened Democrats, some big Crooked Hillary supporters, and Zero Republicans? Folks were quick to point out that Mueller is a longtime Republican. He was nominated by President George W. Bush for FBI director in 2001, and was appointed special counsel by Trump's own pick to be deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, who is also a Republican.

Of Mueller's investigation team, seven of the 17 lawyers brought on by Mueller have donated to Democratic political candidates. But, you know, facts...

James Comey might be sending Donald Trump a 'thank you' note for attacking the former FBI director on Twitter Saturday morning.

In the midst of a weekend Twitter rant, the Trumpeter included Comey in a victory lap tweet after having fired former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe just hours before he could retire with full pension.

Trump wrote, "Andrew McCabe FIRED, a great day for the hard working men and women of the FBI - A great day for Democracy. Sanctimonious James Comey was his boss and made McCabe look like a choirboy. He knew all about the lies and corruption going on at the highest levels of the FBI!"

AG Jeff Sessions Questioned Regarding Russian Investigation

Last week, Attorney General Jeff Sessions became the first cabinet member of Donald Trump's administration to be questioned by Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team looking into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Additionally, former FBI director, James Comey, has been interviewed by the special counsel's team.

From The New York Times:

The interview with Mr. Comey focused on a series of memos he wrote about his interactions with Mr. Trump that unnerved Mr. Comey. In one memo, Mr. Comey said that Mr. Trump had asked him to end the F.B.I.’s investigation into the former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn.

After the president’s request was disclosed, the deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, appointed Mr. Mueller as the special counsel to lead the Russia investigation and examine whether the president obstructed justice.

The attorney general announced in March that he had recused himself from all matters related to the 2016 election, including the Russia inquiry. The disclosure came after it was revealed that Mr. Sessions had not told Congress that he met twice with the Russian ambassador to the United States at the time, Sergey I. Kislyak, during the campaign.

House Committee Demands Any Recordings Between Trump And James Comey

Does he, or doesn't he?

The House committee looking into Russian interference in the 2016 election are asking the White House to release any recordings of chats between former FBI Director James Comey and President Trump.

From The Hill:

A House panel led by Reps. Mike Conaway (R-Texas) and Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) sent a letter on Friday to White House counsel Don McGahn demanding the release of any "tapes" of conversations between Comey and Trump. The president first suggested the existence of such tapes after Comey revealed that he wrote memos of his private conversations with Trump leading up to his firing.

Conaway and Schiff are representing the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence's Russia investigation, and a separate bipartisan group of Senate Judiciary Committee members led by Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) also sent letters requesting the notes Comey wrote documenting the same meetings with Trump.

The Senate group requested the memos from Professor Daniel Richman, the friend Comey gave his notes to, and the House group requested any memos still in Comey's possession.

Schiff and Conaway provided a deadline of June 23.

My guess is there are no "tapes."

This was a case of Trump saying something false to throw Comey off balance. But most probably an empty, hollow threat.

At this point, Comey is so resolute in his recounting of the "let Flynn go" story, any actual recording would most probably confirm Comey's version of the story.

Trump: "100 Percent" Willing To Testify Under Oath About Comey Accusations

President Donald Trump tells ABC News' Jon Karl that he’s “100 percent” willing to testify under oath about his interactions with fired FBI director James Comey.

Answering Karl's question today at a press event with Romania's President, Trump asserted that Comey lied in some parts of the testimony he gave Thursday to the Senate intelligence committee.

Trump says that he never asked Comey for a pledge of loyalty, and never told Comey he hoped the investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn would go away.

When asked if there are recordings of his conversations with Comey, President Trump says he will let the American people know very shortly but, "You're gonna be very disappointed when you hear the answer."

The Senate Intelligence Committee has released seven pages of prepared opening testimony penned by former FBI Director James Comey (at Comey's request) about his interactions with President Trump.

Basically, Comey offers a timeline of his conversations with Trump.

Among many exchanges, according to Comey at a dinner, Trump stated, "I need loyalty. I expect loyalty."
