Outgoing Gawker Editor Charges Pricey Lunch On His Way Out The Door

On his way out the door, after resigning as executive editor at Gawker, Tommy Craggs posted a pic to Instagram showing the receipt for a pricey lunch charged to his Gawkers' expense account.

The photo, which clearly displayed an American Express credit card with Craggs' name and Gawker Media LLC, showed a charge of $546.85 check at Balthazar, a New York restaurant. The payment included a $150 tip.

Craggs and Gawker editor-in-chief Max Read announced Monday that they were resigning from the company after an article about a failed gay rendezvous by a Condé Nast media executive was removed from the site. The removal last week followed major backlash throughout media circles.

Because nothing says journalistic integrity like sticking it your former employer like this.

The article ordered removed by the founder of Gawker outed a closeted executive who had been the target of a blackmail attempt.

Louisiana: Gov. Bobby Jindal Plans Executive Order On "Religious Freedom"

Earlier today, the Louisiana state House failed to advance Gov. Bobby Jindal's HB 707 on a vote of 10-2. The bill is similar to other states' "Religious Freedoms" legislation that has become synonymous with anti-gay animus.

In a statement this afternoon, Jindal says he will issue an executive order that will do what his failed bill might have done:

"We are disappointed by the committee’s action to return the Louisiana Marriage and Conscience Act to the calendar.

"We will be issuing an Executive Order shortly that will accomplish the intent of HB 707 to prevent the state from discriminating against persons or entities with deeply held religious beliefs that marriage is between one man and one woman.

"This Executive Order will prohibit the state from denying or revoking a tax exemption, tax deduction, contract, cooperative agreement, loan, professional license, certification, accreditation, or employment on the basis the person acts in accordance with a religious belief that marriage is between one man and one woman."

Jindal plans to announce a 2016 run for the GOP presidential nomination on June 11th.

New Jersey: Liberty Counsel Loses For Second Time Over "Ex-Gay" Torture Ban

Mat Staver and his Liberty Counsel have failed for a second time in attempting to repeal the ban on so-called "conversion" therapy for minors in New Jersey.

By a 3-0 vote, the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the ban did not infringe the First Amendment rights of minors and their parents to receive information and exercise religion, or the rights of parents to decide how to raise their children.

The challenge came from a 15-year-old boy known as John Doe, who claimed to suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, self-hatred and suicidal thoughts as he struggled with his sexual identity, and his parents, who said they had sincere religious beliefs that homosexuality was sinful and harmful.

The family plans to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, said their lawyer, Mathew Staver.

“It is a tragedy when people who are not in the counseling room try to dictate what the client wants to receive and what the counselor is allowed to offer,” Staver, chairman of Liberty Counsel, said in a phone interview.

Signed by Republican Governor Chris Christie in August 2013, New Jersey’s law bans licensed counselors from trying to convert homosexual minors into heterosexuals.

The law was upheld last Sept. 11 by the same 3rd Circuit panel after counselors claimed it violated their free speech rights.

On April 8, President Barack Obama called for an end to gay conversion therapy for children, citing “overwhelming scientific evidence” that it was “neither medically nor ethically appropriate and can cause substantial harm.”

The American Psychiatric Association in 1973 declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder. Some conservative and religious groups have said sexual orientation can be changed.

This follows three failed attempts by Liberty Counsel to overturn a similar ban in California.

Chick-Fil-A busted using fake Facebook profile to defend itself

Chick-Fil-A got busted today apparently using a fake "hours new" Facebook account defending it's recent announcements about discontinuing use of Muppet toy give-aways.

Apparently, in a back and forth on Facebook it was revealed that "Abby" - defender of all things Chick-Fil-A - was a brand new Facebook account and her face pic was a stock photo from shutterstock.com.

Gizmodo points to what may be a huge Facebook fail by Chick-Fil-A:

"Chick-fil-A claimed the toys were pulled because of a "possible safety issue". That, of course, is a complete lie. A lie that they're propagating with fake Facebook accounts of Chick-fil-a sympathists. Yep, Chick-fil-A is still stuck in its own reality and is doubling down on its lie. Instead of owning up to the fact that The Jim Henson Company stopped doing business with them because they're overrun with bigots, the chicken sandwich company is making fake Facebook accounts to defend its honor on the social network. How do we know the accounts are fake? Just check out this back and forth on Chick-fil-A's Facebook page between real, breathing people and "Abby Farle", a Facebook account that was made 8 hours ago by a chicken PR flack with a stock image of a teenage girl as her profile picture."

OK - this really makes me laugh.

Newt Gingrich launched his website (www.NewtExplore2012.com) today that will "explore the idea of exploring a possible maybe Presidential run."

What's fabulous is the wonderful, diverse group of excited flag waving folks behind Newt and his wife. They are SOOO excited for Newt!
