Opening night of 'Potted Potter' in Las Vegas

Some news items you might have missed:

• I attended the opening night of the hit two-man play Potted Potter at Ballys Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas last night. The show, which parodies all 7 books of the Harry Potter series in 70 minutes, has been running for years in the UK. The original stars opened the show here and I was thrilled to take my uber-handsome god son, Josh, to the performance.

• During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, John Cena talked about getting 'accidental boners' during wrestling matches.

• Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) somehow 'straight-washed' his proclamation observing the 3rd anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting. DeSantis blamed the missing mention of the LGBTQ community on staffers. It was later added to the proclamation.

• A mother in South Carolina was arrested after walking into an elementary school and confronting her son's bullies.

• The Australian man accused of killing 51 worshippers at two mosques in New Zealand in March pleaded not guilty to all charges in a court on Friday.

• The 20 Democratic presidential candidates who qualified for the first Dem debates have been announced:

John Cena 'Diversity, Not Division, Is What Makes America Great'

Happy birthday, America! You look good for 242-years-old.

I know, I know - there are definitely tensions across this land we love. And it can cause some wear and tear on us as Americans.

A new poll from Gallup shows patriotism in the U.S. has dropped to a new low in the 18 years the polling organization has been tracking the question “How proud are you to be an American?”

And another recent poll indicates 55% of Americans feel our president has “emboldened” racists.

But I’m going to throwback to a terrific PSA made by hunky John Cena celebrating America.

In this powerful message, via the Ad Council, Cena celebrates the birth of the United States and what makes us great.

Delivering a body slam to the bigots in America who look to dividing us as a way of expressing their pride, Cena points out that diversity is our core, is our strength.

Just a sample of Cena’s message in the video:

Patriotism. It inspires passionate debate, and it's worn like a badge of honor for good reason: because it means love and devotion for ones country. Love.

But what really makes up this country of ours? What is it we love? It's the people.

Almost half the country belongs to minority groups: People who are lesbian, African-American, and bi- and trans-gender, and Native American, and proud of it.

After all, what's more American than freedom to celebrate the things that make us us?

This year, patriotism shouldn't just be about pride of country. It should be about love -- love beyond age, disability, sexuality, race, religion, and any other labels.

Because the second any of us judge people based on those labels, we're not really being patriotic, are we?

Because love has no labels.

As Cena walks and talks, the video is timed so he passes all kinds of folks - gay, straight, older, younger. All the gorgeous shapes, colors, sizes and flavors that make this the United States.

This is what patriotism really means. It's diversity, not division, that makes us strong.

So go out and get your American pride on today. Because, as the woofy Mr. Cena says, "Love has no labels."

Engaged couple John Cena and Nikki Bella promised to get naked for YouTube if they hit the 500,000 subscriber mark.

And guess what?

Even though John thinks it's "not a good idea" they do fulfill the promise.

However, when John drops his half of the 500,000 sign, things take a turn.

On an appearance of Bravo's "Watch What Happens Live," WWE superstar John Cena addressed wrestler Darren Young's coming out and the idea of other gay wrestlers coming out:

“My thing is this, if you’re good at your job, I don’t judge,” Cena — who has also been vocal about his support for his gay brother — told show host Andy Cohen. “Darren is really good at his job, he’s a wonderful performer, he’s a great entertainer and it’s a very, very bold move that he made to come out. So he certainly is very a brave individual for doing that.”

Cena added, “I think it’s great [Darren Young came out]. I’m glad that he finally got enough support from the people around him, or courage to make the decision that he did, so now at least he doesn’t have to live with the stress. He can be himself and nobody judges him around here.”

Check out this clip from E!'s reality show Total Divas where viewers learn, quite casually, that WWE Superstar John Cena has a gay brother.

In the episode, Nikki, who has been dating John Cena for several months joins Cena for a rare family gathering. Among the family members are John Cena's brother Steve and his partner Darlando.

I personally like how matter of fact and comfortable Total Divas - in fact, the whole clan - is in including Steve and Darlando without any fanfare. Just as it should be.  Great family dynamic there.

Related:  TMZ caught up with Cena last month and spoke to him about fellow WWE Superstar Darren Young unexpectedly coming out. Cena is clearly very supportive Young, and speaks of his brother quite openly and directly.

The WWE has issued a statement to GLAAD regarding Darren Young coming out: "WWE is proud of Darren Young for being open about his sexuality, and we will continue to support him as a WWE Superstar. Today, in fact, Darren will be participating in one of our Be A Star anti-bullying rallies in Los Angeles to teach children how to create positive environments for everyone regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation."

WWE superstar John Cena applauds:  "Good for him. That's fantastic. I know Darren personally. Darren's a great guy. That's a very bold move for him. And congratulations for him for actually finally doing it. It's all about being professional, and Darren Young is a consummate professional. For us, it's entertainment, and if you're entertaining you shouldn't be judged by race, creed, color or sexuality ... as long as you're entertaining."
