Monday Music: The Beach Boys "God Only Knows"

Easily one of my favorite songs.

Someone mentioned The Beach Boys' "God Only Knows" to me recently, so I went in search of a YouTube video, and here the Boys are - from all the way back in 1966.

I literally can't listen to the tune just once. The rolling motif - by the band's unstable yet brilliant Brian Wilson - builds to such aural awesomeness.

According to pop culture king (or queen?) Matt Rettenmund at Boy Culture, this is the only time the Beach Boys covered the Halloween favorite.

Interestingly, the date of this performance was December 21, 1963. Who sings a Halloween song four days before Christmas?

BBC Releases All-Star Version of Beach Boys "God Only Knows"

An all-star version of Brian Wilson's hit song "God Only Knows" has been recorded and released by the BBC to mark the launch of BBC Music, which is described as “an ambitious wave of new programmes, innovative partnerships and ground-breaking music initiatives that amount to the BBC’s strongest commitment to music in 30 years”.

Among the artists taking part in the recording are Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Pharrell Williams, Chris Martin, Lorde and Florence Welch.

The song will be released as a single to raise money for the BBC’s Children in Need appeal.
