Walmart: Costumes For All Occasions - Dead Dog Prop

Seriously?

I'm horrified. And not in some kind of fun, "Halloween" way.  This is supposedly an ad for a Halloween "dead dog" costume or prop.

Here's the actual listing on Walmart's website:

"You have seen bloody road kill, this is bloody road kill, Foam filled latex prop of a skinned dog with a large tire track squished through its mid torso, Chain attached for dragging purposes, Box Dimensions (in Inches), Length : 36, 00, Width : 21, 00, Height : 10, 00 SKU: MC740043"

Wow. One more reason to drive me and my consumer dollars away from Walmart.

UPDATE: The item's url is no longer valid.  So either Walmart was hacked, or pressure to remove the either was applied.  Either way - good riddance to a bad joke/terrible idea.

  1. Thanks for addressing this, Randy. I would like to point out that the retailer who is providing it to Walmart is a company called UnbeatableSale.com. I have added them to our petition. Please share and consider signing.

  4. Does it show at all who the manufacturer is? That is who needs to be protested (especially now that Walmart has taken it off of their website)

  5. Thankfully this has been removed from their site.

  9. Who cares? It's halloween. Don't like, don't buy it. People have got to find the smallest silliest crap to complain about.

  10. It is on Amazon....still. Despite hundreds of negative comments. I wrote to their PR department.

  11. Walmart has now removed this from their site but it is on the Amazon.com and Sears.com websites as well!

But this is the most disturbing one of all as they are very realistic!

  13. I just did a search at Amazon.com for "dead dog Halloween" and it looks like the item has been removed from here, too - YEAH!!!! The photo still appears in search but when you click on photo, you get "Looking for something? We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site"

When consumers speak (with their pocketbooks), it's about time retailers listen!!! This is not the time in our economy when retailers can afford to make such DUMBA** mistakes!

  14. So if a dog lover dresses up as a Zombie for Halloween and wants to walk around with a little zombie buddy for some laughs (eternal unrest between man and his best friend) he can no longer express he love for dogs with that costume because people forced vendors to remove this prop. Nice.

There's a demand for a product, vendors make said product available. If you don't like the product you vote with your wallet and don't buy it. Really sick of the sensationalist articles that force stuff like this to be removed.

  15. What I find extremely funny is how many people are outraged over a product that has been on the market for several years... The sheer amount of "I'm an activist for a day" people that come out of the woodwork. I have only seen one person show even the smallest bit of common sense asking about the MANUFACTURER. The company that actually makes the item. I just can't help thinking if everyone got this involved in the decisions of our government our country would be completely different. Perhaps that "For the people, by the people" saying would actually have meaning again. Instead you all choose to ramble, piss, and moan about a prop. A Halloween decoration... Just one mind you. Not the countless severed heads that look realistic, or arms, legs, hands, eyes, toes, fingers.... How about the props that depict people being tortured. That's absolutely fine, but a fake dog that's been run over? OMG! The companies that sell it must DIE! Nevermind the zombie babies, or the creepy corpse mommy rocking a dead child. That's fine though right? I swear people in this country need to stop and think. I love my animals. I have 2 dogs. One of them I rescued from an abandoned house. She was abused and underfed. This prop does not bother me one bit. I can understand not liking the prop itself. I personally don't like that companies make fake spiders. I don't complain about it though. To bring this to an end how about next time you find an offensive product your first question be "Who makes this?" Then complain to that company. A retailer does not control manufacturers or their products. They simply sell the sick twisted crap humans want to buy.....

  16. Way to close to Home.. https://www.facebook.com/#!/Pattydetroit
This poor dog was found in a park in Southwest Detroit. One of our men in blue contacted us when he saw this poor baby.

We drove up to the park to meet the officer and could NOT believe what we were seeing! This is the worst case of abuse we have ever seen!

Someone has skinned this dog from the back of the neck to its ears. It's fur is hanging off its poor body.

This was NOT an accident, someone purposely skinned this dog from the back of its neck all way up to its ears. The cuts are purfect and deliberate!

  17. I can't believe anyone would list this in the first place. WTH were they thinking?

  18. Perhaps the problem is that this is more likely to happen to a dog than a baby or an adult. Maybe it is the reality of this that has put people up in arms.

And as far as being "activist for a day", maybe what it results from is the fact that this was brought to light making people more aware of it.

I found a zombie dog for sale and it was not near as objectionable as this prop with a "chain attached for dragging purposes."

    1. You nailed it.

My iReport on CNN is getting some negative comments by people saying that we're ok with portrayals of humans for halloween but they don't understand why animal lovers aren't ok with this dog "with chain attached for dragging purposes".

It's too real and dogs are skinned alive and dragged behind cars by people with very little regard for the preciousness of life.

If anyone wants to see my post on CNN: http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-1037011

Thanks to all of the animal lovers out there making a difference and sending a message to retailers. When the manufacturer stops getting orders for the product, they'll stop manufacturing it.
