Ricky Martin granted Spanish citizenship - marriage on horizon?

Out singer Ricky Martin, who hails from Puerto Rico, was granted Spanish citizenship today, according to El Pais.

The star, who came out in 2009 reportedly wants to take advantage of Spain’s gay marriage laws.

Spain passed legislation allowing same-sex marriages in 2005, only the third country to do so at the time, with 20,000 gay couples entering into marriage since.

He had requested a special “letter of naturalization” of the Spanish government—which would enable him to bypass the usual steps to citizenship—in order to take advantage of the country’s same-sex marriage laws and marry boyfriend Carlos Gonzalez Abella. The two are raising twin 3-year-olds.
