Ricky Martin: "I Wish I Could Come Out Again"

Pop star Ricky Martin says he wishes he could come out as gay again because "it felt amazing."
Ricky Martin
Stopping by ABC’s Popcorn with Peter Travers, pop superstar Ricky Martin chatted about his recent acting turn as Gianni Versace’s boyfriend Antonio D’Amico in FX’s "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story" series which could earn the 46-year-old his first Emmy Award nomination.

Along the way, the subject turned to Martin’s positive outlook on life and the “Shake Your Bon-Bon” singer became effusive about how liberating coming out as gay was for him.

In fact, he says he wishes he could come out again.

“I always say this, I wish I could come out again. Because it felt amazing,” Martin said. “The freedom, the feeling of liberation was so powerful, that’s what I mean by saying I wish I could come out again because it just felt amazing. And then after that, people coming to me and saying thank you so much for coming out. Because of you, I understand my father better. I understand my sister better. So it’s an important thing to do.”

With LGBT Pride celebrations in full swing, the Latin hunk beamed with his message of self-acceptance.

“For those out there that are struggling with their identity, everything is going to be fine,” Martin said. “Just be yourself. Love yourself.”

The 46-year-old father of two also discussed how he’d feel if his kids were to come out.

“I don’t know, my kids are too young, but I wish they were gay,” he said. “It is a very special thing. The sensitivity, the way I see now, that I don’t have to hide in any way shape or form. I see colors. And then you see the rainbow. I understand why the symbol is the rainbow. It’s just real. Everything is tangible. It makes me a stronger person.”

Doing "Assassination Of Gianni Versace" Made Ricky Martin Re-Live Parts Of His Own Closeted Life

In his cover story for the latest issue of Attitude, superstar Ricky Martin admits researching his role as Gianni Versace's former partner Antonio D'Amico in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story forced him to "re-live" his own early life as a closeted gay man.

"I was a closeted gay man who was making my partners hide. I had relationships with other men who were in the closet and I had other relationships with men who were not in the closet but because of me went back into the closet.

"And so I’m re-living everything that I did."

"I submitted myself to my career completely. I didn’t open doors to new relationships, and I’m not talking about romantic relationships, I’m talking about any relationship, because I didn’t want people to know me too much," he explains.

"I wouldn’t even sit down and have a cool relationship with amazing producers or great film directors because I was afraid that if they spent more than two hours sitting with me they would know my nature.

"I wasted so much energy trying to manipulate my sexuality."

Martin, who came out in 2010, is now married to Swedish artist Jwan Yosef and is father to 9-year-old twins Matteo and Valentino.

News Round-Up: January 9, 2018

Some news items you might have missed:

• Check out the Russian/American "cultural" exchange (above) between InstaHunk bfs Alex (Russia) and Brett (U.S.)

• Asked about the now empty Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS after the Trump administration fired the council members, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tossed off a vague "We'll keep you posted."

• Superstar Ricky Martin got a bit "cheeky" promoting his latest concert dates in Las Vegas at The Park Theater.

• This is a big deal - Democratic Senators Cory Booker and Kamala Harris have been appointed to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Previously, only 1 African American had ever served on this body during its 201-year history.

• LGBT fans of Star Trek: Discovery were left heartbroken after the most recent episode.

• Hunky Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds was recently asked on Twitter which Hollywood "Chris" does he think is the hottest - Pratt, Hemsworth or Evans? Using ice cream as a metaphor, Reynolds got a bit cheeky. He also threw in a Chris Pine shout out as well.

• Uganda's LGBTQ film festival persevered despite being raided by the police.

• The state of Connecticut have soon have the very first openly gay Chief Justice of any state Supreme Court.

• Big shout out to British gravity racer Zach Leader who recently came out via Instagram. Check out his message below.

So 2018 is finally here and for about 6 months now, this is how I wanted to start the new year. A fresh start. No more hiding, no more lies, no more fannying around! To some of you this won’t be news or anything new but to a lot of you, I imagine it won’t have even crossed your mind. Some of you may have thought about it I imagine 😂 What I’m trying to do is come out and say I’m gay 🏳️‍🌈 I’ve spent a lot more time in paddocks in recent seasons but this issue has never come up, I’ve never known if the paddocks would accept a gay rider. I guess I’ll find out soon! 😂 I’ve always worried that people would look at me differently and so wouldn’t accept me into paddocks. I’ve always worried this would hinder me from getting sponsors and maybe even signed by teams in the future; that team managers wouldn’t want the hassle and so wouldn’t bother, regardless of how good I may be. Obviously I’ll find all this out in good time but I really hope everyone both in general life and racing life accepts me for who I am. This is a purely personal decision to come out but maybe if there are other LGBT racers in British paddocks then it may help them to find themselves and consider coming out too, or find the confidence to talk about it. I’m always happy to talk to anybody about it 😊 Maybe one day we may see more racers happy and confident to come out as a member of the LGBT community! 😊 I’m telling you all now though, I’m a man on a mission. I’m going to be the first openly gay BGBC champion and then one day I’m going to Britain’s one of Britain’s first openly gay national motorcycle champions and the ultimate goal is to be THE FIRST EVER OPENLY GAY BRITISH SUPERBIKE CHAMPION. And mark my words, I’ll get there if it’s the last thing I do! I’m going to be an ambassador in racing for the LGBT community too which I’m going to be incredibly proud to do 😊 Feel free to message about anything guys but I hope you all accept me and continue to show me the love! ❤️ I don’t currently have that special guy in my life to share everything with and to share my journey to glory with at the moment but I’m working on it 😜 Happy new year everyone! #gay #gayteen #lgbt #gayracer #comingout

Ricky Martin Talks About His Upcoming Gay Role On American Crime Story

Ricky Martin, Penelope Cruz, Darren Criss, and Edgar Ramirez recently gave interviews to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming Ryan Murphy series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story due to arrive in TV land in 2018.

Ricky portrays Versace’s longtime partner Antonio D’Amico. The role is the latin popstar's first gay role and will feature his first gay sex scene.

Says Martin, “We’re going to go mainstream with a story that talks about homophobia, that talks about hate, that talks about indifference. I feel humbled. It’s so raw and honest and so dramatic and sad. But at the same time you show the love of Gianni and Antonio and 15 years of struggling, fighting. It’s something that I really wanted to be loud about.”

Ricky Martin On Coming Out: "I've Been The Happiest Man Ever Since!"

Ricky Martin

CBS Sunday Morning profiled out and proud pop star Ricky Martin yesterday as he opens his new residency at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas.

Ricky was particularly poignant when discussing the coming out process for him, and what kept him in the closet.

From the segment:

“I was afraid of rejection, ’cause unfortunately, first of all, for many years everyone, a lot of people told me that my feelings were evil — ‘What you’re feeling is not godly.’ If I’m feeling this, I’m not a good person.

"No more of that. I’m a good person. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with me. No. No. Enough. Not more of that. And I’ve been the happiest man ever since!”

Watch the segment below.

Handsome hubby Michael and I attended the official opening of DSQUARED2's new store in Las Vegas on Thursday.

The men of DSQUARED2 - Dean and Dan Caten - are not only hot fashion designers today but also designed all the costumes for Ricky Martin's ALL IN residency at the Monte Carlo, which had it's opening the night before.

The pop star hosted the new store's opening and super talented photographer Denise Truscello snapped this pic of Michael with the very easy on the eyes Mr. Martin.

Las Vegas: Ricky Martin Opens ALL IN Residency At Monte Carlo

(via Instagram)

Ricky Martin opened his new residency All In at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas last night where Ricky and the audience were seriously "Livin La Vida Loca!"

Great, high energy throughout the show; Ricky looked like a million bucks (costumes by DSQUARED2 designers Dean and Dan Caten); and I loved the aerial couples (mixed and same-sex) during "She's All I Ever Had."

Check out shots and video clips from last night below:

He then went on to talk about his two children, Matteo and Valentino, and his newly announced residency at the new Park Theater at Monte Carlo in Las Vegas beginning early next year.

Ricky Martin Confirms New BF Jwan Yosef - "Yup"

A photo posted by Ricky (@ricky_martin) on

While Ricky Martin hasn't previously confirmed that he's seeing Swedish artist Jwan Yosef, I'm guessing the "Yup" caption on this pic from Brazil is his casual way of sharing the news.

Martin has been spotted all over the globe with Yosef, from Japan to Malibu to New York to Puerto Rico in recent weeks.
