News Round-Up: January 28, 2019

Some news items you might have missed:

• I just came across InstaHunk Thara (above), who basically has it ALL going on. #woof

• Speaking to Rolling Stone, Oscar winner Michael Caine calls his same-sex kiss with Christopher Reeve in the film Deathtrap "a bit of a disaster."

• Longtime Donald Trump confidant, Roger Stone, told reporters the FBI stormed his house "with greater force than was used to take down bin Laden." Note - Bin Laden was shot in the head and dropped in the ocean. I don't think the two experiences are comparable...

• Acting attorney general Matthew G. Whitaker told reporters today that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation is nearing the end.

• A guy goes on Jeopardy, wins almost $100K and wins hearts by blithely mentioning his husband in passing.

• I've been meaning to post this for days: a dad and son, both dressed as Frozen's Elsa, dance to "Let It Go." The video was captioned, "Mom is gone, no stress."

The dad told CBS News, "It’s important to teach children you can do whatever you want to do. It’s important to embarrass yourself and let go."

Dad's Twitter Rant Defending His 5-Year-Old Son Goes Viral

Aaron Gouveia and son, Sam (image via Twitter)
A proud father posted an epic Twitter rant that went viral after his five-year-old son, Sam, was the victim of bullying and ‘toxic masculinity.’

Aaron Gouveia is the proud dad of three sons.

His middle boy, Sam, who Aaron calls a ‘boy’s boy,’ likes all kinds of things. For instance, he’s big on fishing, dirt, trucks and knee drops on the couch.

Sam also likes some 'girl things,' like collecting purses because “he likes to carry things around," and wearing polish on his nails because they “look beautiful.”

I think Sam has great taste in colors, too.

Sam recently wore his red nail polish to kindergarten.

His dad says Sam has “absolutely no concept of nail polish only being for girls or reason to think anyone would possibly have a problem with beautiful nails.”

I'm with you there, Aaron. Sam is rocking that red!

But Sam’s classmates apparently have no sense of individuality or self-expression.

According to Aaron, Sam was “ridiculed for being a boy with nail polish.”

The kids called Sam names all day long and told him he should take it off.

Sam was extremely upset and crying when his mom picked him up from school.

Sam couldn’t understand why the kids made fun of him and was “devastated at how the other kids turned on him.”

When Aaron got a call at work from Sam, who was still crying, dad told him that “his nails are BADASS!” and the only thing Sam should care about is whether HE likes his nails.

I'm liking Aaron more and more here, folks.

But Aaron’s heart broke when Sam asked if his mom would remove the nail polish so the kids at school wouldn’t make fun on him anymore.

Noting Sam’s “huge heart,” Aaron shared his pride that his son has never been afraid to be different because “different has never meant ‘bad.’”

Aaron also pointed out that “this toxic masculinity bullshit is LEARNED,” and learned from parents.

Aaron shared that he and his wife have spent years “preaching tolerance, acceptance, and the importance of expression,” but in just a single day Sam’s classmates were able to teach Sam ‘shame.’

Dad had a long talk with his son, and the upshot was Sam should not only keep wearing his nail polish, but it should be “an even brighter shade tomorrow.”

He also told Sam he should ask the kids why the nail polish got them so wound up.

Alright! Go Aaron, go!

Aaron went on to tell the Twitterverse that his son “is a goddamn fireworks show of a human being” and he had no intention of Sam’s light being diminished by “restrictive bullshit” like this.

Aaron for 'Dad of the Year!'

Dad also rightfully pointed out to Sam that lots of guys like “Thor & Capt. Jack Sparrow” wear nail polish.

He even threw New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski in the mix, although he wasn’t too sure of Gronk.

More importantly, though, Aaron told Sam that what other people think doesn’t matter because “what you wear and how you look should make YOU look good.”

Yaassssss!

Not only did Sam decide to leave his nail polish on, his 10-year-old brother painted HIS nails in solidarity.

You know what happened next - Aaron decided to pain HIS nails as well.

Even though the shade, chosen by Sam, is a bit “understated,” dad liked it.

But Sam is sticking with his bright red because “it’s pretty and good luck for the Patriots.”

Aaron wrapped up his Twitter thread saying that even though “intolerant parents and their offspring scored a minor victory,” they would not “win the war.”

Dad signed off with a shout-out to his man, Sam, letting him know he always has his back.

This reminds me of the popular internet meme - “This is Aaron and Sam. They don’t care about other people’s rigid, intolerant views. Be like Aaron and Sam.”

Now, if Rob Gronkowski would just chime in with a pic of his nails painted red, that might just break the internet.

Happy Father's Day 2016

My dad with my brother Gary (R) and me (L) going to the rodeo around 1969

Happy Father's Day to every dad and father figure out there.

My dad was a super guy. When my mother passed away when I was 5 and my brother Gary was 7, my dad more than filled the role of mother and father.

Great provider, successful in every part of his life, and was never shy with saying "I love you."

I was lucky to have him until his passing at 91.

Awkward Tweet Of The Day

Ok, so the award for "Most Awkward Tweet of the Day" goes to Justin Bieber's father, Jeremy, who sent out the above tweet upon seeing the recent naked pics of the Bieb, which apparently shows he's packing some serious junk.

I haven't seen the pics - I can't stomach Justin Bieber. But, now we know where Justin gets his "charming" ways.

The twitterverse was appropriately horrified.

When Your Son Wants That Little Mermaid Doll

Going viral all over the inter-webs is this clip posted on Facebook by "Dad of the Year" contender, Mikki Willis.

It would seem that Willis' son Azi recently received duplicate presents for his birthday. So, Willis took the tyke to exchange one of the duplicate gifts for something else.

And what was it that Azi chose? A Little Mermaid Princess doll.

Willis described the episode like this:

"I let my boys choose their life. That's how mama and I, that's how we are, right? We just say, 'Whatever.' We say, 'Yea, choose it. Choose your expression. Choose what you're into. Choose your sexuality. Choose whatever.' You have my promise right now, both of you, as we sit in this car, this hot car in this parking lot. You have my promise forever to love you and accept you no matter what life you choose."

How would you feel if your son chose this??

Taye Diggs Gets Down With His "Dad Self" For Dockers

Cute commercial rap for Dockers by Taye Diggs in advance of his upcoming return to musical theater on Broadway as the next star of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch."

Rapping the #DadJam, Taye explains that Dockers suit him because as a dad himself of five year old Walker (with ex Idina Menzel), he needs clothes that make getting dressed on the fly fast.

“Khakis are a good go-to,", he says. "Or cargo pants, because they have a lot of pockets. Pacifiers and bottles, and diapers, and wet wipes, and crackers, and little toy dinosaurs, and candy for treats for any child that has behaved or when you’re trying to bribe them.”

This father and son start out listening to some "Welcome To The Jungle," but things take a funny turn to Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off."

Very cute.

The Today Show has reached out to the dad about featuring him and his YouTube channel.

Hunky dad cheers his little girl on singing "Let It Go"

I can't not post this.

I think the "Let It Go" lip-dubs videos are done, but this dad is so "in it" with his little girl - I couldn't stop watching.

"Let it rage on, girl!"

Uber-cute: "Day at home with Daddy"

How cute is this dad and son?  Over 613,000 views on YouTube in 2 weeks since upload December 23, 2012.

Emio Tomeoni, a 30-year-old video producer, created a time-lapse video which captures an afternoon with his son, Xavier.

The clip, according to the video's description, is the "comprehensive report on the happenings of father and son while mama is away for the afternoon."

Tomeoni, who lives in Kansas City, Mo., told the New York Daily News that he made the video as an attempt to show his wife what a day at home with Xavier looks like.

Maybe TV can inspire...

There are fathers who deal with their straight sons exactly how they always thought they would.

There are fathers who don't know what to do when they "discover" their sons are gay.

Then, there's this guy.

It may sound trite, but this TV "dad" is saving some kids lives. This character gives hope that some young gay and lesbian kids can be who they are without fear.

If you're a parent, how do you think you would handle your child coming out?

How would you hope to handle your child coming out?

How do you think your gay child hopes you may handle it?

And last question, what difference does it make to you if your child is gay?
