The Banks children go on adventure that takes them inside of a ceramic bowl and into an animated countryside, in this fanciful scene from the new Disney sequel “Mary Poppins Returns.” The film’s director Rob Marshall narrates a closer look at the sequence, which features Emily Blunt as the titular nanny and Lin-Manuel Miranda as the lamplighter friend of the family, Jack. Here, Marshall discusses how animators were brought out of retirement to work on the 2-D animation.
Tony Award winners Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ben Platt performed their collaboration "Found Tonight" during the March for Our Lives in Washington, DC today.
The track combines songs of empowerment from each of their blockbuster Broadway musicals, Dear Evan Hansen and Hamilton.
Last week, the duo announced the proceeds from the song would go to ending gun violence.
As they left the stage, they encouraged the young protesters, "We love you. Don't give up."
Two Tony Award winners singing a mashup of two songs from back-to-back Tony Award winning scores and a portion of the proceeds go to help the March for Our Lives initiative.

The new single “Found/Tonight,” arranged by Alex Lacamoire, brings together Hamilton's “The Story of Tonight” with Dear Evan Hansen's “You Will Be Found,” adding up to a truly anthemic theme song for the upcoming nationwide protest against gun violence, March for Our Lives.
USA Today sets up the two songs that become musical magic:
"The Story of Tonight," from Hamilton, is sung by a young Alexander Hamilton, Marquis de Lafayette, John Laurens and Hercules Mulligan, who share a round of drinks and camaraderie before joining the American Revolution.
"You Will Be Found," from the 2017 Tony winner for best musical Dear Evan Hansen, is a speech about loneliness and friendship intended to keep alive the memory of a high school pal who committed suicide.
And here's how it comes together: Even when the dark comes crashing through, when you need a friend to carry you, When you're broken on the ground, you will be found So let the sun come streaming in cause you'll reach up and you'll rise again, If you only look around, you will be found And when our children tell their story, they'll tell the story of tonight No matter what they tell you tomorrow there'll be more of us Telling the story of tonight
Bonus points for Platt getting to sing the word "tonight" as he's publicly campaigning to play "Tony" in the upcoming movie remake of West Side Story.

What a great way to start the week as we get our first look at the upcoming Mary Poppins sequel, Mary Poppins Returns.
Starring Emily Blunt and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, this new chapter in the Poppins saga will see the indomitable nanny return to find her former charges Michael and Jane Banks all grown up.
But there's always a need for Poppins.
Also appearing in the cast are Angela Lansbury, Meryl Streep and Dick Van Dyke.
I have to admit I got a chill watching this. The film hits theaters this Christmas because, you know, "it's a jolly holiday with Mary..."
Pulitzer Prize/Tony Award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda is taking his Broadway mega-hit musical, Hamilton: An American Musical, to Puerto Rico for a three week run in January 2019.
And Miranda says he plans to reprise his performance as the title role for the limited engagement.
Hamilton will play a three-week run, Jan. 8-27, 2019, at Teatro UPR, the theater at the University of Puerto Rico’s main campus in the Rio Piedras section of San Juan. Built in 1939, Teatro UPR is considered Puerto Rico’s most iconic stage, and recently hosted Spanish language productions of Evita, Into the Woods, Master Class, The Sound of Music and Once on This Island.
Miranda's first musical, In the Heights, also played in Puerto Rico in 2010, with the actor-composer also reprising his role. Though a Puerto Rico run has been in the works, its announcement comes with an urgency following the devastation of Hurricane Maria. Since then, Miranda has been working solely and tirelessly on relief efforts, including releasing the all-star charity single "Almost Like Praying."
"Bringing Hamilton: An American Musical to Puerto Rico is a dream that I’ve had since we first opened at The Public Theater in 2015," stated Miranda. “When I last visited the island, a few weeks before Hurricane Maria, I had made a commitment to not only bring the show to Puerto Rico, but also return again to the title role. In the aftermath of Maria we decided to expedite the announcement of the project to send a bold message that Puerto Rico will recover and be back in business, stronger than ever."
The Broadway company of Hamilton has grossed $275 million at the Richard Rodgers Theatre thus far.
The show also has companies in Chicago and Los Angeles (through December 2017), a second national tour to launch in February in Seattle, and a London company will debut next month.

Humble as ever, Miranda acknowledges that Broadway stardom doesn't always translate to the rest of the world. “I’m fresh off a long run performing in my musical ‘Hamilton,'” Miranda said, “Which fortunately is one of the biggest hits ever on Broadway so that means most of you at home have no idea who I am.”
He then serves up a parody of one of the big songs from Hamilton, "My Shot," with (practically) no mention of politics. Miranda's effusive enthusiasm is a joy.

Jennifer Lopez and Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda delivered the late-night debut of "Love Make the World Go Round," their tribute to the victims of the Orlando massacre, on Tuesday's Tonight Show.
Backed by the Roots and a pair of backing vocalists, Lopez crooned the track's message of hope and resiliency while wearing a massive, multi-colored cape. Miranda emerged midway through the track for a nimbly-rapped verse.
"What we got is love even when the sinners hate us/ We cannot let them diminish or intimidate us/ We sing out, we got the rhythm and the true on our side/ We cut through the divide and we do it with pride," Miranda rapped. "A generation of innovators enabled to patiently wait for change 'cause change is what they've been afraid of/ the malevolence can wait, raise a level of debate, celebrate, elevate."
Lopez and Miranda released the track July 7th via iTunes.
All proceeds benefit the Hispanic Federation's Proyecto Somos Orlando initiative, which aims to address the "long-term needs for mental health services that are culturally competent and bilingual."
In his Tony Award acceptance speech tonight for "Best Score of a Musical," Lin-Manuel Miranda read a sonnet he wrote acknowledging life, love, and today's tragedy.
“Senseless acts of tragedy remind us that nothing here is promised, not one day,” he said. “This show is proof that history remembers. We live through times when hate and fear seem stronger. We rise and fall and light from dying embers, remembrances that hope and love last longer.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator and star of the currently the hottest musical theater ticket in NYC - HAMILTON - took to Twitter this past Saturday night to share the news that had requested that a celeb be banned from coming backstage after a performance at the Public Theater.
The celeb? Madonna.
The reason? Her lack of theatre etiquette. Apparently, the Queen of Pop annoyed the cast and audience by constantly texting throughout the second act of the musical.
Tweeted Miranda: "Tonight was the first time I asked stage management NOT to allow a celebrity (who was texting all through Act 2) backstage. #noselfieforyou"
The tweet was later deleted, but audience member Casey Erin Clark expressed her frustration after the show on Twitter:

Madge is well-known for her inability to keep off her phone. In 2013, the Alamo Drafthouse movie theatre chain banned Madonna from its theatres after reports that she was texting during a New York Film Festival screening of "12 Years a Slave."
HAMILTON is currently closing out it's off-Bway run before heading to Broadway this summer at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, with previews beginning on July 13th.
