Report: Russian Operatives Targeted Sanders Supporters To Weaken Hillary Clinton

Researchers studying Twitter data from the 2016 election say Russian operatives definitely targeted supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders in an effort to weaken Hillary Clinton's campaign.
Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders

Researchers studying Twitter data from the 2016 election say Russian operatives definitely targeted supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders in an effort to weaken Hillary Clinton's campaign.

From The Hill:

A study by Clemson University researchers reported by The Washington Post found that thousands of tweets from Russian-owned accounts masquerading as conservative accounts supporting President Trump began targeting Sanders's supporters shortly after the primary concluded.

“#BlackMenForBernie Leader Switches to Trump! I will Never Vote for Hillary, Welcome aboard the Trump Train,” read one tweet sent by a Russian account pretending to be a "Southern., Conservative Pro God, Anti Racism" Twitter user from Texas.

“Conscious Bernie Sanders supporters already moving towards the best candidate Trump! #Feel the Bern #Vote Trump 2016,” read another account known as "Red Louisiana News" that was actually operated by Russians.

About 12 percent of Sanders voters said they ended up voting for Trump over Clinton in the general election, according to the Post.

Still, the number of Sanders voters who supported Trump in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania — states considered key to Trump's victory — was higher than Trump's margin of victory in those states.

“I think there is no question that Sanders was central to their strategy,” Darren Linvill, one of the two Clemson researchers behind the study, told the Post. “He was clearly used as a mechanism to decrease voter turnout for Hillary Clinton.”

Trump Trolls Hillary, Hillary Claps Back With 'Mean Girls' Meme

Why is Trump so obsessed with Hillary?
Why is Trump so obsessed with Hillary?
As I recently reported, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has definitively announced she will not be running for president in 2020.

Donald Trump couldn't wait to twiddle his little thumbs over the keyboard of his iPhone to troll Clinton, writing, “(Crooked) Hillary Clinton confirms she will not run in 2020, rules out a third bid for White House.” Aw-shucks, does that mean I won’t get to run against her again? She will be sorely missed!"

(Insert sarcasm)

But Hillary clapped back FTW with a reference to Mean Girls:

Hillary Clinton: "I'm Not Running" In 2020

Hillary Clinton declares she won't run for president in 2020
Hillary Clinton declares she won't run for president in 2020

From The Washington Post:

Hillary Clinton put to rest lingering speculation Monday night that she might launch another White House bid but vowed to remain active in politics, telling a local television station in New York that “I’m not going anywhere.”

“I’m not running, but I’m going to keep on working and speaking and standing up for what I believe,” Clinton said in an interview with News 12. “I want to be sure that people understand I’m going to keep speaking out. . . . What’s at stake in our country, the kind of things that are happening right now are deeply troubling to me.”

Clinton, a Democrat who lost the 2016 presidential election to Donald Trump despite winning the popular vote, said she does not think she will run for any other elected office in the future, such as mayor of New York or governor of New York.

Hillary also mentions that she plans to have an active role in the 2020 elections, and has met in private with several of the declared Democrats running for president.

There are currently 14 Democrats in the hunt for the 2020 Democratic nomination for president.

Hillary Trolls Trump On Copying Her Campaign Slogan

Hillary Clinton trolled Donald Trump and the Republican Party on his use of the phrase "Stronger Together" at his El Paso, Texas, rally last night.
Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton trolled Donald Trump and the Republican Party on his use of the phrase "Stronger Together" at his El Paso, Texas, rally last night.

Trump repeated the phrase during his speech, and the GOP tweeted the phrase out superimposed on an image of the Trumpster.

Hillary was clearly flattered they liked her campaign slogan, so she encouraged them to "copy my plan on health care, a fairer tax system and voting rights."

Former President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

Bombs were discovered to have been sent to former President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton this morning.

The offices of CNN at Time Warner Center in New York City were also evacuated over a reported explosive device.

From The New York Times:

Explosive devices were sent to former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as to CNN’s offices in New York, sparking an intense investigation on Wednesday into whether a bomber is going after targets that have often been the subject of right-wing ire.

A law enforcement official said the three devices were similar to one found Monday at the home of George Soros, the billionaire philanthropist and liberal donor who has come under fierce criticism from conservatives and conspiracy theorists.

None of the devices harmed anyone. Law enforcement officials said they were investigating whether all the devices were sent by the same person or persons.

Clinton, Obama, Soros and CNN have all been frequent targets of Donald Trump in his campaign rhetoric.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders issued a statement condemning “the attempted violent attacks recently made against President Obama, President Clinton, Secretary Clinton and other public figures.”

“These terrorizing acts are despicable, and anyone responsible will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” said Sanders according to the Associated Press. “The United States Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies are investigating and will take all appropriate actions to protect anyone threatened by these cowards.”

According to several reports, the package mailed to CNN’s offices was addressed to former CIA director John Brennan, who has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration since becoming a CNN commentator.

Tweet Of The Day: Hillary Clinton

At a campaign rally last night, Donald Trump told his minions that it was really Hillary Clinton who 'colluded' with Russians to affect the 2016 presidential election.

Hillary wasn't having that nonsense...

"Hilary Clindon" Applies For A Job On Reboot Of "Murphy Brown"

Hillary Clinton makes a cameo on "Murphy Brown"

I meant to post this yesterday from the premiere episode of the Murphy Brown reboot this past Thursday night.

Hillary Clinton made a cameo appearance as “Hilary Clendon” (one "L") applying to be Murphy’s secretary.

“For four years I was the secretary of a very large organization,” declared the former Secretary of State.

Asked if she had basic secretarial skills like working with computers and emails? “Emails. I do have some experience with emails.”

For those who didn't follow the sitcom during its original run, there was an ongoing gag each week about Murphy running through secretaries that could often be hysterical.

Hillary Clinton: I Hoped My Fears About Trump Were 'Overblown' - They Were Not

Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton has adapted the afterword from the upcoming paperback edition of her book, What Happened, as an essay for The Atlantic.

The former Secretary of State sounds a clarion call about the current assaults on American democracy in the era of Donald Trump.

Clinton begins thusly:

"It’s been nearly two years since Donald Trump won enough Electoral College votes to become president of the United States. On the day after, in my concession speech, I said, “We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead.” I hoped that my fears for our future were overblown.

"They were not.

"In the roughly 21 months since he took the oath of office, Trump has sunk far below the already-low bar he set for himself in his ugly campaign.

"Exhibit A is the unspeakable cruelty that his administration has inflicted on undocumented families arriving at the border, including separating children, some as young as eight months, from their parents. According to The New York Times, the administration continues to detain 12,800 children right now, despite all the outcry and court orders.

"Then there’s the president’s monstrous neglect of Puerto Rico: After Hurricane Maria ravaged the island, his administration barely responded. Some 3,000 Americans died. Now Trump flatly denies those deaths were caused by the storm.

"And, of course, despite the recent indictments of several Russian military intelligence officers for hacking the Democratic National Committee in 2016, he continues to dismiss a serious attack on our country by a foreign power as a “hoax.”

"Trump and his cronies do so many despicable things that it can be hard to keep track. I think that may be the point—to confound us, so it’s harder to keep our eye on the ball. The ball, of course, is protecting American democracy. As citizens, that’s our most important charge. And right now, our democracy is in crisis."

Clinton goes on to encourage folks to vote, vote, vote this fall and more.

I know there are folks who say Hillary should step out of the public square for good. I, for one, disagree.

Definitely worth your read.

FBI Claps Back At Trump Claim China Hacked Hillary's Email Server

Donald Trump took to Twitter last night after apparently watching a report on Fox News (what else?) that China might have hacked into Hillary Clinton's email server.
Donald Trump
Donald Trump took to Twitter last night after apparently watching a report on Fox News (what else?) that China might have hacked into Hillary Clinton's email server.

Are we still talking about the emails???

Trump wrote, "'China hacked Hillary Clinton’s private Email Server.' Are they sure it wasn’t Russia (just kidding!)? What are the odds that the FBI and DOJ are right on top of this? Actually, a very big story. Much classified information!"

He followed that up with another missive asserting, "Hillary Clinton’s Emails, many of which are Classified Information, got hacked by China. Next move better be by the FBI & DOJ or, after all of their other missteps (Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Page, Ohr, FISA, Dirty Dossier etc.), their credibility will be forever gone!"

Now, the truth is the FBI has already determined that no classified information was sent via Hillary Clinton's email server.

Today, the FBI pushed back against that notion telling The Washington Post, “The FBI has not found any evidence the servers were compromised.”

As usual, the Donald was making stuff up to obfuscate his own ongoing problems.

Hillary Clinton Asks 'What Team' Donald Trump Plays For

After Donald Trump's disastrous press conference where he sided with Russia rather than the United States regarding Russian meddling in the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton wondered on Twitter which team Trump plays for....?
Hillary Clinton
As Donald Trump headed into his much-anticipated meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Hillary Clinton tweeted congrats to the World Cup finals players as well as a question for her former presidential campaign rival.

"Do you know which team you play for?" she tweeted.

Monday evening following the summit, Clinton followed-up: “Well, now we know.”

Trump received broad criticism from Democrats and Republicans for his feckless comments about Putin and the US intelligence assessment of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Hillary Clinton: "Separating Families Is Not Mandated By Law At All"

Hillary Clinton addressed the ongoing debacle involving separating children from their parents at the southern border of the United States today.

In her address, in a clear and steadfast voice delivered at the Women's Forum of New York, Clinton makes it clear that there is no "law" that requires ripping children from their parents arms and putting them in cages.

"Separating families is not mandated by law at all. That is an outright lie."

This is how a president acts when facing difficult issues.

Hillary Responds To Detractors Who Say She Should "Get Off The Public Stage"

Hillary Clinton

At an event at Rutgers University Thursday, Hillary Clinton responded to criticism from her detractors who say she should "get off the public stage and shut up."

From MSN.com:

"I was really struck by how people said that to me - you know, mostly people in the press, for whatever reason - mostly, 'Go away, go away,'" Clinton said Thursday during an event at Rutgers University.

"And I had one of the young people who works for me go back and do a bit of research. They never said that to any man who was not elected. I was kind of struck by that," Clinton said.

Clinton's remarks came in response to a question from Eagleton Institute of Politics' director Ruth Mandel about the former Democratic presidential nominee's reaction to those who say she should "get off the public stage and shut up."

"I'm really glad that, you know, Al Gore didn't stop talking about climate change," Clinton said to applause.

"And I'm really glad John Kerry went to the Senate and became an excellent secretary of State," the former first lady continued. "And I'm really glad John McCain kept speaking out and standing up and saying what he had to say. And for heavens sakes, Mitt Romney is running for the Senate," Clinton said.

I, for one, agree with Hillary. The men who lost presidential races stayed in the mix.

Why should she have to sit down and shut up?

CNN's Jeffrey Toobin Apologizes For "False Equivalences" Between Trump/Clinton During 2016 Election

Speaking to Larry Wilmore on his "Black on the Air" podcast, CNN analyst Jeffrey Toobin apologized for his part in drawing "false equivalences" between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election.

“And I hold myself somewhat responsible for that. I think there was a lot of false equivalence in the 2016 campaign. That every time we said something, pointed out something about Donald Trump — whether it was his business interests, or grab ’em by the p–––y, we felt like, ‘Oh, we gotta, like, talk about — we gotta say something bad about Hillary.’ And I think it led to a sense of false equivalence that was misleading, and I regret my role in doing that.”

The Washington Post has more:

On the one hand, media organizations in the run-up to November 2016 exposed and covered the hard-to-count scandals and outrages that Trump had generated over decades as a self-absorbed real-estate mogul: the thousands of lawsuits, the mistreatment of women, the ambient lies, the racism, the stiffing of contractors, Trump University, the false promises of charity and much, much more. On the other hand, those same media organizations pounded away at Hillary Clinton’s email story. And many of them — CNN prominently included — gave Trump generous helpings of airtime for the rallies early in his campaign.

A study by Harvard Kennedy School’s Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy found that in the campaign’s final months, the media’s aggregate coverage performed pretty much as Toobin described to Wilmore. “When journalists can’t, or won’t, distinguish between allegations directed at the Trump Foundation and those directed at the Clinton Foundation, there’s something seriously amiss. And false equivalencies are developing on a grand scale as a result of relentlessly negative news. If everything and everyone is portrayed negatively, there’s a leveling effect that opens the door to charlatans,” wrote Thomas Patterson in the Shorenstein study.

As we all know, the daily, incessant pounding on Hillary about her emails - when nothing illegal had been found despite several congressional investigations - helped push her numbers down.

As well, unfounded allegations about the Clintons somehow making money from the Uranium One deal which, in truth, was approved by not Hillary but nine different agencies unanimously. The Clintons take no money from anything related to the Clinton Foundation.

But if you keep repeating what Hillary haters want to hear like a used-car salesman, you see what happens.

Listen below.

Trump Demands, And Gets, A Renewed Investigation Into The Clinton Foundation

To be clear, this is Attorney General Jeff Sessions looking to save his job.

From The New York Times:

F.B.I. agents have renewed questions about the dealings of the Clinton Foundation amid calls from President Trump and top Republicans for the Justice Department to take a fresh look at politically charged accusations of corruption, people familiar with the investigation said on Friday.

They said that agents have interviewed people connected to the foundation about whether any donations were made in exchange for political favors while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state from 2009 to 2013. Career prosecutors had shut down the investigation in 2016 for lack of evidence.

During the presidential campaign, Mr. Trump branded his rival “Crooked Hillary” and promised to send her to jail if he won. He briefly struck a more magnanimous tone after the election and said he had no interest in pushing for a prosecution.

But as his legal problems have mounted, Mr. Trump has returned to his attacks on his favorite target. With four former aides facing federal charges and the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, investigating him and his campaign, Mr. Trump has openly called for Mrs. Clinton to be investigated and one of her top aides to be imprisoned.

The Clinton Foundation issued this statement:

"Time after time, the Clinton Foundation has been subjected to politically motivated allegations, and time after time these allegations have been proven false. None of this has made us waver in our mission to help people.

"The Clinton Foundation has demonstrably improved the lives of millions of people across America and around the world, while earning top ratings from charity watchdog groups in the process. There are real issues in our society needing attention that the Clinton Foundation works hard to solve every day. So we're going to stay focused on what really matters."

Nick Merrill, a spokesman for Hillary Clinton, offered a more direct assessment:

“Let’s call this what it is: a sham. This is a philanthropy that does life-changing work, which Republicans have tried to turn into a political football. It began with a long-debunked project spearheaded by (former Trump adviser) Steve Bannon during the presidential campaign. It continues with Jeff Sessions doing Trump’s bidding by heeding his calls to meddle with a department that is supposed to function independently.

"The goal is to distract from the indictments, guilty pleas, and accusations of treason from Trump’s own people at the expense of our justice system’s integrity. It’s disgraceful, and should be concerning to all Americans.”

Trump Mocks Wrong Editor As He Gloats Over Vanity Fair's Hillary Clinton Hit Piece

Hillary Clinton
Earlier this week, I saw this tweet from Vanity Fair that suggested, among other things, Hillary Clinton should "Take up a new hobby in the New Year. Volunteer work, knitting, improv comedy... Literally anything that would keep you from running again."

Folks were not happy about a woman as accomplished as Clinton being told to "take up knitting."

In any case, Donald Trump (who has no time for golf or watching Fox News or reading anything the least bit negative about Hillary Clinton) chimed in today on the subject chiding Vanity Fair and somehow invoking the name of Anna Wintour, the editor in chief of Vogue - a completely different publication from Vanity Fair (other than that "V").

In a statement on Wednesday, Vanity Fair said of the video, "It was an attempt at humor and we regret that it missed the mark."

Barack Obama & Hillary Clinton Recognized As "Most Admired" For 10th Year In A Row

Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton
For the 16th consecutive year, Hillary Clinton has been named as the most admired woman in America according to Gallup Polling.

Hillary has been honored with the title 22 times. This year she edged out Michelle Obama by just two points.

Barack Obama clinches his 10th title as the most admired man in America in a row ahead of - who else? - Donald Trump.

Trump is the first U.S. president in the poll’s 71-year history not to win most admired man in his first year in the White House.

Yet another thing to drive the Trumpster crazy...

Fox News' Shepard Smith Explains The Whole "Uranium One" Issue

There are reports today that US Attorney General Jeff Sessions in looking into allegations that Hillary Clinton somehow profited from the sale of Uranium One mining facilities back in 2010.

The short version of the story: She didn't.

From NBC News:

On the orders of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Justice Department prosecutors have begun asking FBI agents to explain the evidence they found in a now dormant criminal investigation into a controversial uranium deal that critics have linked to Bill and Hillary Clinton, multiple law enforcement officials told NBC News.

At issue is a 2010 transaction in which the Obama Administration allowed the sale of U.S. uranium mining facilities to Russia’s state atomic energy company. Hillary Clinton was secretary of state at the time, and the State Department was one of nine agencies that agreed to approve the deal after finding no threat to U.S. national security.

While Hillary haters have spun the story as "Hillary sold American uranium to Russia" in exchange for Clinton Foundation donations, the truth is Hillary wasn't involved in the deliberations.

There were nine US departments that oversaw the decision, and the deal was unanimously approved by all nine. The State Department official who took part in the meetings has already stated Hillary didn't intervene in the issue in any way.

Watch below as Fox News' Shepard Smith explains the facts of the case. You'll soon see why this is just another Trump-led attack on Hillary.

Allegation That Hillary "Rigged" Democratic Primary Falls Apart Once You Read The Full Memo

Hillary Clinton

Lots of excitement in Hillary Hater Land this week as it seemed like former Democratic National Committee head Donna Brazile cracked open a "terrible secret" - that the Hillary Clinton campaign had somehow hijacked the DNC for her own purposes before she was even the nominee for the party.

This all came to light as an excerpt from Brazile's upcoming book was published earlier this week.

Cries of "Rigged!" rang out among "Bernie Bros" and Republicans alike.

"See! She was dishonest. Lock her up!"

Turns out the memo Donna Brazile referenced applied only to the general election. This kind of memo/agreement has been standard operating procedure for the DNC for 15 years.

Here's part of the memo that no one really took time to read:

“Nothing in this agreement shall be construed to violate the DNC’s obligation of impartiality and neutrality through the Nominating process. All activities performed under this agreement will be focused exclusively on preparations for the General Election and not the Democratic Primary.”

You will note that the entire agreement pertains only to the General Election, not the primary season.

The cash-strapped DNC needed Hillary Clinton's impressive fundraising powers in 2015. And so, they agreed to give her campaign input on some party hiring and spending decisions but related only to preparations for the general election, not the primary season.

It turns out Bernie Sanders signed the exact same agreement.

So, move along folks. Yet another example of "nothing to see here."

The full memo can be read here.

Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon shared this on Twitter:

And Brazile backed off the claim:
