My Birthday 2015

Last year's orchid blooming; this year's flowers from Michael; and my favorite wine :)

Happy Bastille Day!

Or, as we say in my house "Happy birthday, Randy!"

Quiet kind of celebration this year, which always suits me perfectly.

Michael is in New Jersey this week, so it's just me and the dogs, and the pool.

Although Michael's not here, he did send this huge arrangement of flowers to me via our Auber-talented friend Sonny. The picture doesn't do it justice.

AND the orchid my friend Olivia sent me last year is blooming again! I can't believe I didn't kill it - I have the blackest of thumbs! I'll take that as a good sign.

Other than cracking my tooth over the weekend, life has been great this year. I'm still working in theater (loved my recent gig at Sacramento Music Circus choreographing Bye Bye Birdie); the U.S. Supreme Court came through in the name of truth, justice and the American way ruling in favor of marriage equality; and you shiny happy people still are tuning in to see what interests or entertains me here on The Randy Report.

I'll also point out that today is the official anniversary I share with my best friend Carlye. Thirty-five years ago today we "decided" we were besties. Yes - we decided that. Officially.

And that has made all the difference. Happy anniversary Carlye!

Life is good.

President Obama mentions marriage equality:

“I’ve seen something like gay marriage go from a wedge issue used to drive us apart to a story of freedom across our country, a civil right now legal in states that 7 in 10 Americans call home.”

"Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law –- for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well."

The first mention of lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans ever in a State of the Union address:

"As Americans, we respect human dignity, even when we're threatened, which is why I've prohibited torture, and worked to make sure our use of new technology like drones is properly constrained.

"That’s why we defend free speech, and advocate for political prisoners, and condemn the persecution of women, or religious minorities, or people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. We do these things not only because they're right, but because they make us safer."

Ab Fab Movie "Will Happen" In 2015 Says Saunders

Fans of AbFab rejoice! Jennifer Saunders shares the news that she has finished writing a movie of Absolutely Fabulous – 20 years after starting it.

Plus, Saunders says she is determined it will be made by the end of 2015.

The project currently has a working title of Edina and Patsy, derived from the sitcom’s main characters, played by Jennifer and Joanna Lumley.

Jen tells the Sunday People: “I’ve finished the first draft. I’m feeling euphoric. My proper New Year’s resolution is to do the film, otherwise it’ll be a pointless year of procrastination.”

She also joked she would like to see Angelina Jolie, replace Lumley as Patsy and an orangutan playing her part.

“That would be funny, Angelina Jolie and an orangutan.”

The last taste of AbFab came in 2012 , when Saunders wrote three episodes to mark the 20th anniversary of the hilarious series.

A rare misstep for the comedian was in writing the now closed Viva Forever!, a musical based on the songs of the Spice Girls, which only lasted 6 months.

The 2015 Grammy Award Nominations Are Out

The nominations for the 57th Grammy Awards are out today; just waiting for the Album of the Year noms which will be announced tonight at 9PM on CBS. Instead of a usual complete list, this year nominations are being shared via Twitter over several hours.

So far, Beyonce and out singer Sam Smith lead this year with five noms each.

Other nominations of LGBT interest:

• The Best Musical Theater Album category includes Neil Patrick Harris for Hedwig and the Angry Inch. It will compete with Aladdin, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, A Gentlemen's Guide to Love and Murder and West Side Story (featuring out actor Cheyenne Jackson).

• Filmmaker John Waters of Hairspray fame is nominated in the Best Spoken Word Album category for the audio version of his book Carsick: John Waters Hitchhikes Across America.

• Also in the Best Spoken Word Album category - beloved gay icon, Joan Rivers, who died in September at the age of 81. Rivers is nominated for her audio of her best seller Diary of a Mad Diva.
