First Look At Upcoming "Ab Fab" Movie

The BBC has shared the first promo image from the upcoming "Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie" starring Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley in their now iconic TV comedy roles as "Edina" and "Patsy."

From Variety:
In the movie, which is adapted from the BBC TV series, Edina and Patsy are still living the high life: shopping, drinking and clubbing their way around London’s trendiest hotspots. Blamed for a major incident at an uber-fashionable launch party, they become entangled in a media storm, and are relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi. Fleeing penniless to the playground of the super-rich, the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make their escape permanent, and live a life of luxury forever.
We are HUGE fans of the series in my house. When I first met Michael, it was one of the first pop culture experiences he insisted on sharing with me. It took me a few episodes to find my footing, but now I'm just as big a aficionado. Can't wait for the movie to come out sometime in 2016.

Ab Fab Movie "Will Happen" In 2015 Says Saunders

Joanna Lumley as "Patsy" (L) and Jennifer Saunders as "Edina"
Fans of AbFab rejoice! Jennifer Saunders shares the news that she has finished writing a movie of Absolutely Fabulous – 20 years after starting it.

Plus, Saunders says she is determined it will be made by the end of 2015.

The project currently has a working title of Edina and Patsy, derived from the sitcom’s main characters, played by Jennifer and Joanna Lumley.

Jen tells the Sunday People: “I’ve finished the first draft. I’m feeling euphoric. My proper New Year’s resolution is to do the film, otherwise it’ll be a pointless year of procrastination.”

She also joked she would like to see Angelina Jolie, replace Lumley as Patsy and an orangutan playing her part.

“That would be funny, Angelina Jolie and an orangutan.”

The last taste of AbFab came in 2012 , when Saunders wrote three episodes to mark the 20th anniversary of the hilarious series.

A rare misstep for the comedian was in writing the now closed Viva Forever!, a musical based on the songs of the Spice Girls, which only lasted 6 months.

Jennifer Saunders confirms there will be an AB FAB movie

Jennifer Saunders of AB FAB fame

In an interview with Jonathan Ross over the weekend, Jennifer Saunders confirmed that an Absolutely Fabulous movie is in the works.

"I have to do it now because I threatened to a lot and [Joanne Lumley] kept announcing it and said she's going to do it and then Dawn French said 'I bet a hundred thousand pounds that you don't write it' so now I have to write it...she's very clever."

We love Ab Fab in our house.  Michael introduced me to it during the 90s and we scream over the "Lucy and Ethel" like situations "Edie" and "Patsy" get themselves into.

Great news about the movie.  If you don't know the series, do yourself a favor and check it out here.

'Ab Fab's' Edina and Patsy pose in new jewelry campaign

New York jewelry designer Alexis Bittar booked Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley to star in his latest advertising campaign as their Absolutely Fabulous alter egos, Edina Monson and Patsy Stone.

“Such a fabulous shoot in the glorious jewelry from Alexis,” said Lumley. “ It was sensational and I am thrilled with the pieces I have from his generous talented hands. Patsy was transfixed by the quality and wants lots more forever. I hope the campaign rocks: I am a fan for life.”

Watch Patsy and Edina pose, pout, and ham it up for the camera in Vogue’s behind-the-scenes footage of the campaign shoot.

BBC says it wants more Ab Fab

After the success of the first two new Absolutely Fabulous specials — shown on Christmas 2011 and New Year's Day 2012, respectively — BBC executives are urging co-creator and star, Jennifer Saunders, to write a new season for the end of 2012 and the start of 2013.

The article quotes an anonymous source who states, "The viewing figures prove it's as popular as ever and there's a real appetite for more episodes. Obviously it's down to Jennifer to write more and getting all the actors together takes some organizing. But the current understanding is there will be another Christmas special for the end of 2012 and then more episodes the following year."

The article continues saying that this doesn't necessarily discount Saunder's recent New York Magazine interview where she said she was definitely going to do an Ab Fab movie set on the French Riviera.

Jennifer Saunders on Ab Fab movie: "Definitely going to do it"

Rumors of an Absolutely Fabulous feature film have been around for years, ever since the original BBC series starring Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley first ended and the Roseanne Barr-produced US version was killed.

While many fans thought the concept had been replaced by the three current specials — the first of which appears on BBC America January 8th — the idea still persisted. Saunders, who co-created the show with funny lady Dawn French, even hinted at the possibility on a recent episode of The Graham Norton Show.

Now, it seems, the rumors are true.

"Yes, I’m definitely going to do it," she said in a recent New York Magazine interview. "I’m aiming to shoot this in a beautiful part of the Riviera. I fancy the south of France in the spring." Saunders also noted in the interview that these three specials came about because of Lumley, who anounced AbFab would be back while she was performing in La BĂȘte on Broadway.

"It was mainly because she announced it that we did it," Saunders explained in the interview. "She said, 'Darling, I told them in New York that you're going to do a few more'. I said, 'Oh, well, got to tell the BBC'."

No word yet on the story, shoot date or who's distributing the movie version of Patsy and Edina's big screen adventure.

'Ab Fab' is filming again! Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley

It’s been way too long since we’ve seen fabulous Eddy and Patsy crack a bottle of Bolly.

Shooting new episodes for the first time since 2004, Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders are filming scenes for an all-new 'Absolutely Fabulous Christmas special.'

The Daily Mail UK snapped “the pair parading up and down Bond Street laden with designer bags from the likes of Louis Vuitton, The Kooples and Lanvin, in the never-ending quest to stay hip and cool.”

Last year, creator/writer/star Saunders fought and won a battle with breast cancer and announced the return of the series was coming.

Sweeties, dahlings, you look still absolutely fabulous!
