Economy Adds 223K Jobs In April; Unemployment Drops To 7 Year Low At 5.4%
Employers added 223,000 jobs to the economy in April bringing unemployment rate down to 5.4% - the lowest in 7 years.
Of those jobs, 213,000 were in professional and business services, health care and construction. Last month, professional and business services added 62,000 jobs, while healthcare and construction each added 45,000.
The stock market roared on the news with the Dow Jones industrial average up about 255 points, or 1.4%, in mid-morning trading.
