5 month-old puppy starved, left to die on sidewalk

It's not often I ask people who read my blog to actually "do" anything.

But after reading this news I am asking you to please click on the link below and sign a petition urging the maximum penalty be given to the two owners of this puppy.

According to change.org: Snoop was like any other puppy; he did nothing to deserve the neglect and abuse that ultimately led to his death.

His abusers — 19-year-old Bryan Hutcherson and his girlfriend — told police that they stopped feeding Snoop because his food was "too expensive." Hutcherson also admitted to police that Snoop was simply too stressful to care for and they hadn't fed him in over a month. Not one kibble, crumb or bite for a month.

Instead of doing the right thing and rehoming Snoop, returning him to the place of purchase or surrendering him to a rescue or shelter, Hutcherson and his girlfriend decided to take matters into their own hands. They chose to do absolutely nothing until their dog died.

The last sighting of Snoop before his body was discovered happened in late March by an anonymous person. Snoop was in an uncomfortably tiny cage measuring just two feet by three feet. Snoop was covered with his own feces and shaking uncontrollably.

A few days before Snoop's death, Hutcherson removed the horribly skinny, sick dog from his living room prison, walked two blocks from his residence, placed Snoop on the cement, and walked away. The official cause of death was reported to be organ failure due to starvation and dehydration. On top of that, Snoop had complications from exposure to the elements.

A petition has been set up by Change.org member Natalie Puccio, who was so touched by Snoop's story she had to do something. The petition is asking for the maximum penalty to be given to both Hutcherson and his girlfriend.

If given the maximum sentence, Hutcherson faces a $10,000 fine and 3 to 5 years of jail time. The preliminary hearing is set for April 14th. You can help little Snoop get justice.

I'll end this post the way I started it - it's not often I ask reader do "do" anything.  But was I write this with one of my dogs in my lap, I will ask you to please click on the link below and sign the petition.  Our dogs, our cats, our pets come into our lives depending on us.  Hutcherson and his girl friend could have taken Snoop to a shelter where he could have found a loving home.  At the very least, he could have been euthanized in a humane manner.  I'm horrified by these events.

Please sign the petition today in support of maximum penalties for Snoop's abusers.

  1. My face is beet red right now with anger, sadness and activism. I applaud you for posting this, it's so tough to read and look at, yet me must!! So many college kids and young people get dogs, neglect dogs and cats for that matter, and thousands wind up abandoned and dead. Perhaps if these evil children who adopted this precious soul, had compassion for life, they would have, as you said, re-homed him. Heck, maybe if they would have just let him hang out on the street, which is a terrible place for an animal, someone might have found him. No, these too participated in the slow and painful death of a living creature. They deserve 20 to life, no parole, period. And now I will sign the petition. Ilan Kwittken

  3. Randy I check your blog almost every day. I never know if I'm going to be inspired, educated, saddened, joyful, or in this case BITTERLY ANGRY. Thanks for doing what you do even though some days are harder than others. And "yes" I signed the petition. Keep up the good fight.

  5. It's hard to fathom the lack of conscience. A life is a life, and to watch one slowly disintegrate before their eyes is a sickness deeper than any excuse they could muster. And it wasn't one person but two mutually agreeing to starve and dispose of a dog who would probably have still licked their faces had he been strong enough to do so. Sorry excuses for humans. Most agencies will take back a pet if they don't fit the needs of the new family. Unfortunately Snoop had no choice in the matter. My heart breaks at the carelessness and callousness.

  6. Thank you everyone for your compassionate responses. I was so affected by the hideousness of the story I had to share.

  7. Too expensive huh? I bet those $#^@&* still got on the piss, ate every night, bought clothes. A life is a life and coming from a country that does not allow the death penalty and has a total ban on guns, I'd like to see these two pitiful excuse for humans starve to death themselves.

I am sitting at my desk at work with tears streaming down my face. I have two pit bulls and Snoop looks like my male when he was a puppy. I am sick to my stomach over this. I don't know how anyone could sit by, live thier lives, watch tv, eat, etc. and watch this dog waste away and not care. People who lack empathy like this are sick and extremely dangerous and should not be allowed to walk free. Snoop was a baby, on this earth a matter of weeks. He died a horrible, lonely death, probably crying for his mother. I've said this many times before: there should be a special place in hell for people who abuse animals and children. I hope everyone will join me in contacting the D.A. to push for the maximum.. Surely other people must have been in that house and wtnessed this dog's abuse. They should be named complicit in this and have charges against them as well.

  9. It seems his girlfriend is pregnant now as well. You can see ther facebook walls and the ignorance and lacl of education that is apparent. It's disgusting. I hope they are punished to the fullest extent of the law! RIP precious Snoop!

  12. I cant see doing this to any dog BUT a puppy?? What the heck did it do to deserve that? He just wanted a nice loving safe home and ended like this. These are very sick people and even the max punishment is not enough. If they can do this to a puppy can you imagine what else they are capable of doing to anything out there. I would love to know the girlfriends name and see her facebook page and post something on there. It is very sad that she is pregnant. I just read that and I fear for the babies life. They should NOT let her keep the child in fear of harming it or starving it to death.
