News Round-Up: January 14, 2019

Some news items you might have missed:

• Austin Wolf does the "How Hard Did Age Hit You?" challenge (above). I wish age would hit me that hard... LOL. And is it just the fact I'm older that I think most people's 'after' photos look better?

• Ohio’s new GOP governor has signed a new executive order banning LGBT discrimination in regard to state business.

• Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii has declared her candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination, but does her history as a full-throated homophobe disqualify her?

• Evangelicals sue for the right to deny homeless transgender people shelter.

• Free condoms are now available to everyone in Washington state who has health insurance. The new law also covers abortions, sterilizations, and vasectomies.

• Sen. Rand Paul, who has equated socialized health care to 'slavery,' will travel to Canada for hernia surgery.

• I'm always down to listen to anything new from Miss Chaka Khan. The Queen of Funk is back with her first album in 12 years, titled, Hello Happiness.

• Fitness model and InstaHunk Dan Tai (above) asked his fans if they vote legs or abs...? I'm gonna have to call this a tie, right?

• The Houston Public Library has been sued over a city-sponsored Drag Queen Story Hour by haters who say the event violates their 'religious freedoms.'  Several similar events have taken place across the nation in an effort to promote literacy.

• Donald Trump is reportedly distancing himself from Republicans possibly losing the House after the midterm elections telling friends privately, “These are their elections … and if they screw it up, it’s not my fault.”

• Scientists have invented a 'self-lubricating' condom. The surface contains polymers that capture moisture from water and bodily fluids, trapping liquids on the condom for a consistently slippery feel.

• Some states are reporting higher than usual early voting in the midterm elections with Democrats outpacing Republicans which could signal a "blue wave." Las Vegas reported the first day turnout was triple that of the last midterm elections.

• Upcoming pop recording artist, LIVVIA, recently released her first official single, “Damn,” and has already garnered almost half a million views on YouTube in only two weeks.

In addition to creating some hooky pop music, LIVVIA also put in the time and effort to graduate this past Spring from the prestigious University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Economics.

CDC Gets Laughs With "Don't Wash Or Reuse Condoms" Tweet

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recently tweeted a public service announcement reminding folks to not “wash or re-use condoms.”

The informative tweet read, “We say it because people do it: Don’t wash or reuse #condoms! Use a fresh one for each #sex act.”

Now, I trust and believe that if the CDC, one of the foremost leaders on treating/preventing HIV, is tweeting it, it’s for a reason.

But - SRSLY? Folks have to be told condoms are a one and done kinda thing?

The Twitterverse thought this seemed a bit obvious, but then decided to have some fun.

So, to be clear:

Yes - always use a condom to protect yourself from infections ranging from HIV to many other STDs.

Yes - You should check the condom before using to make sure it's not damaged.

No - Don't keep condoms in your wallet as friction and heat are not a condom's friends.

And no - don't reuse condoms. Please dispose of them sensibly.
