Texas: Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis supports marriage equality

Speaking to the San Antonio Express-News Editorial Board today, Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis says she supports marriage equality:

“It's my strong belief that when people love each other and are desirous of creating a committed relationship with each other that they should be allowed to marry, regardless of their sexual orientation,” Davis told the Express-News editorial board.

Davis added that she's pleased the state's constitutional ban is currently under challenge in federal courts.

If elected, she says she would hope to open up a discussion with the state legislature about repealing the current ban.

“I think it's important, and I think that people across this country are evolving on that issue and moving in a direction that demonstrates support for it, so I think it is time to re-open that conversation and ask Texans where they are on it to see if that's something that we might change legislatively if it doesn't happen constitutionally,” she said.

Texas: State Senator Wendy Davis to announce run for Governor

Next week Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis, who catapulted to national fame for her marathon filibuster of an anti-abortion bill, plans to formally announce to her bid to run for governor.

Ms. Davis’s decision has the potential to turn the race to determine Gov. Rick Perry’s successor into a rare competitive showdown between long-suffering Texas Democrats and the Republican conservatives who have ruled state politics for decades.

She would enter the race as a substantial underdog, but her candidacy would represent the most serious challenge to the Republican lock on the office.

Two Republicans, Mr. Perry and George W. Bush, have held the office since the party began its winning streak in governor’s races in 1994, with Mr. Bush’s victory over the incumbent, Ann W. Richards.

Yesterday Davis tweeted: "A week from today, I’m announcing something big. Can you chip in now to show the strength of our grassroots network?"

Ted Cruz wishes he had half the balls Wendy Davis has...

Vows to speak until he can speak anymore.

And by "until I can't speak anymore," I mean "until I need a break because I don't have a tenth of the grit Wendy Davis has."

Thrilling to watch. At the time I was glued to my computer watching the crowds roar for over 15 minutes creating their own "people's filibuster."

Wendy Davis is a hero.
