I originally posted this in 2015, but as I thinking about Memorial Days past, this was one for the books:
****************************************
So picture this: I'm laying on the couch having just taken a Vicodin for the tooth ache that simply will not go away.
(Regular readers know I've had not the best week with a tooth ache that wouldn't quit and since it was a long holiday weekend my dentist's office was closed. So I was medicating as best I could LOL.)
Hubby Michael comes in and asks "How are you??" As the pain meds are kicking in I stay positive and say "I'm ok." I'm not really, but I'm going for the "think positive" thing here.
He repeats, "No, how ARE you? We just got invited to an impromptu Memorial Day BBQ at Mariah Carey's house. Olivia Newton-John and Tyson Beckford are going too. Can you make it?"
At this point I"m pretty sure my hearing is on the fritz, too, as I thought I heard him say we're invited to Mariah Carey's house for a party???
And yes, that is what happened.
Thankfully, Vicodin isn't the strongest thing in the world.
You don't pass up an invite like this. I get up, shower, put my best "casual chic/going to Mariah Carey's house" kind of outfit and off we go.
I'd never met Mariah but she was a doll. She and Tyson are old friends; and she and Olivia have sung together before.
I had a great time, was uber-impressed with the gorgeous house she's renting during her Vegas residency at Caesars Colosseum. Of course, like every party, we all congregated in the outdoor kitchen, chatting and eating burgers. You know, your every day "I'm at a party with international superstars each in their own right" kind of party.
Very cool way to end Tyson's headlining gig with the Chippendales as he was selling out just about every night. Olivia is now back in town at the Flamingo Las Vegas as her residency resumes. And we'll be seeing Mariah back at Caesars Colosseum in July.
When I wake up from my Vicodin induced sleep, I'm going to have the best dream to tell Michael.
Check the pics of shiny happy people below.

Mariah Carey ruled Christmas Eve on Spotify as her now-iconic holiday hit, “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” broke the all-time record for the most streams in a single day.
Chart Data broke the news that Mimi’s blockbuster single was streamed more than 10.8 times on December 24.
.@MariahCarey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" has broken the global Spotify record for biggest single day (10,819,009 streams on 12/24).
Just imagine work you did 24 years ago could still be earning big bucks.
We all know that artists make money, depending on their recording contracts, every time someone purchases their music.
Additionally, since Carey co-wrote “All I Want For Christmas Is You” with producer Walter Afanasieff, she makes bank every time it’s played on the radio, used in a movie or commercial or streamed.
And that can add up.
Business Insider reports the Grammy Award-winner has made over $60 million from the holiday hit alone since its release.
Some songs can become so associated with a certain time of year, they become perennial money makers.
For instance, each spring as warm, sunny weather emerges from winter, “Walking On Sunshine,” by Katrina and the Waves, returns to the airwaves with the 1985 track earning an estimated $1 million each year.
Pop superstar Mariah Carey just ended her Mariah #1 to Infinity run in Las Vegas at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace last year, but is already back with a new show titled, The Butterfly Returns.
The 48-year-old diva will premiere the new production beginning July 5 with performances through September 10.
“I’m thrilled to be returning to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace? with a BRAND NEW residency, THE BUTTERFLY RETURNS, beginning July 5th! Fan Club presale starts Tuesday 5/1 before the public on sale this Friday at 10am PT! For tickets & all dates visit mariahcarey.com/tour! #thebutterflyreturns,” Mariah shared via Instagram.
Dates and ticket info on her official website here.
Just before the ball dropped in Times Square on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve last night, Mariah Carey took to the stage for a "live" performance of two of her hits, "Emotions" and "We Belong Together."
But things turned out a bit more 'rocky' than 'rockin.'
Seconds after making her entrance, Carey seem out of sync or having technical problems with the sound.
At first, it appeared that the music was off, and she was supposed to be lip synching. Soon though, Carey almost seemed to give up saying she couldn’t hear.
So the audience was left with La Carey walking the stage as her dancers continued on. At one point, Carey announced that she was just going to let the crowd sing instead as she tried to explain she couldn’t hear.
Along the way, Carey put on her game face trying to just survive the debacle saying, “I’m trying to be a good sport here.”
When the cringeworthy six minutes were up, Carey exited the stage saying, “Guess it doesn’t get better than this.”
The Hollywood Reportershares from a backstage source:
The singer had suffered from a tight and difficult rehearsal schedule earlier in the night was unable to hear through her in-ear monitor … She didn’t have the kind of time that she usually gets for her “Mariah-ness.’
Not so sure about all that. When you're making a major, national TV appearance how "tight" can your schedule be?
I think what was more off-putting was Mariah's cavalier attitude throughout the "performance." She didn't seem to attempt any kind of effort to put something out there.
And if she couldn't hear, why were her dancers having no problem being in sync? I'm guessing they could hear something?
I'm not going to crucify Carey, but I will say this: if you get paid millions of dollars to perform before a national TV audience minutes before the New Year, perhaps you could make time to do your due diligence and show up for a 10 minute sound check?
If you can cash the check, do the sound check.
In the end, it's not really very important in the big scheme of things.
A short time after, Mimi tweeted "Shit happens 😩 Have a happy and healthy new year everybody!🎉 Here's to making more headlines in 2017"

Pop music royalty and current Las Vegas headliner Mariah Carey drops her new music video for "Infinity" today from her new album #1 To Infinity.
Beginning with a performance from her concert residency at Caesars Colosseum in Las Vegas, a lonely Mariah briefly takes to internet dating until she realizes she's not finding true love there.
Or does she?
Catch the cameo by international super model Tyson Beckford who was headlining at the Rio Hotel & Casino with the Chippendales at the time the video was shot.
Mariah Carey dropped by Ellen today to share her new album #1 To Infinity and a clip from the video "Infinity."
Free CDs for everyone!
Having dropped by the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas last week after her Vegas concert residency debut to visit her pal Tyson Beckford and the Chippendales, she must have found some inspiration in seeing the shirtless Chipps. Check the cute bit in the music video.
One day after opening her concert residency in Las Vegas (Mariah Carey #1 To Infinity), Mariah Carey headed over to see longtime friend (and international super model) Tyson Beckford take the stage at a sold-out performance of Chippendales at the Rio Hotel and Casino.
Although Mariah shared on Instagram "I have no idea how I got here," it's clear pop music princess knew exactly how to find a throne. She joined Beckford onstage for his "Empire" number as the men of Chippendales danced around her and Tyson gave her a personal lap dance. I do believe there was a spanking involved somewhere.
Mariah Carey drops her new single, “Infinity,” in advance of her upcoming compilation, #1 to Infinity, release date May 18.
The new tune feels very much like a friendly throw-back to the 90s "oohs" and "aahs" with a little bit of sassy 70s Diana Ross.
The release of #1 to Infinity is timed in conjunction with her upcoming residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas - Mariah #1 To Infinity - beginning May 6th.
The album will feature Mariah's best, including upbeat dance tracks ("Emotions," "Fantasy") to soaring ballads ("I'll Be There," "Hero") and her unprecedented back-to-back Billboard's Song of the Decade ("One Sweet Day," "We Belong Together").
Mariah Carey shared the news of her upcoming residency in Las Vegas at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Ellen today.
As part of the announcement, she dresses up as a maid for the hotel and surprises super-fans with the news. I love when fans are surprised by their favorite artists. They get soooooo excited :)
Mariah will premiere at Caesars in Las Vegas on May 6th. Click here for more info.
Well, this clip will go down in "diva diss" history.
In an interview with Mariah Carey (which begins by looking back at her 20+ years as a super recording artist, her multitudinous awards and her 200+ million albums sold), Barbra Walters asks Mariah about the reported tension with co-American Idol judge Nicki Minaj.

Fox wasted no time replacing one of their two empty chairs at "American Idol's" judges panel. The network announced at the Television Critics Association press tour in Hollywood on Monday that Mariah Carey will be joining the singing competition for season 12.
“As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with 'American Idol,' ” Mariah Carey said in a statement. “I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, ‘Triumphant,’ which will be out early next month. I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon.”
Mariah's one year contract is reportedly worth $12 million.
