Olympian Oscar Pistorius will not be a part of South Africa's "It Gets Better" effort

Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius recorded a video message for South Africa's "It Gets Better" website launching this week, but it will not be included due to his current legal troubles.

TimesLive reports:

Organisers of the "It Gets Better, South Africa" campaign against homophobic bullying, due to be launched tomorrow, severed Oscar Pistorius's connection with it yesterday.

In his video, which will no longer be included in the campaign, Pistorius said: "Just remember that you're special. You don't have to worry. You don't have to change. Take a deep breath and remember 'It will get better'."

At a preliminary hearing today for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Pistorius pleaded "not guilty," and insisted it was an accident based on his mistaking her for an intruder.

President and First Lady honor Olympians & Paralympians

Honoring our U.S. Olympians and Paralympians at a ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House, President Obama rightfully pointed out that they are the "portrait of what this country is all about" as he, Vice President Joe Biden and first lady Michelle Obama salute their achievements at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London.

Obama says: "You could not have been better ambassadors for the United States."

The athletes presented the Obamas with the U.S. flag carried during the events' opening ceremonies.

At the Olympics, the U.S. won 104 medals, 46 of them gold, their highest total at an Olympics not held in the United States.

Immediately following the Olympic Games were the Paralympics, which attracted a record 2.7 million spectators, and our US athletes won 98 medals, 31 of them gold.

US Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte on E! Fashion Police

I think he's cute and a good sport.

The end bit with Joan doesn't really pay off all that well, but who cares?

Tom Daley in shirtless Heat Magazine layout

Tom Daley continues to dominate the media world after his impressive showing at the 2012 Olympics.

The Smoking Nun blog features several pics from Tom's recent photo shoot for Heat Magazine in the UK, which is apparently similar to the US's People Magazine.

No denying this guy has some star power.  I'm curious to see where he goes next with his fame.

Ten "out" gay & lesbian 2012 Olympians take home medals

The LGBT community can be proud of the showing gay and lesbian athletes made at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

From SBNation: Ten publicly out gay and lesbian Olympians are taking home medals from these Olympic Games in London, most of them gold.

If Team Gay was a country, it would have finished 31st overall with seven medals, tied with Mexico, Ethiopia and Georgia.

They would have beaten the medal count of such countries as Jamaica, Ireland, Argentina and India.

They would have finished 21st overall for most golds (four), tied with Iran, Jamaica, Czech Republic and Korea.

The 2012 openly gay Olympic medal winners are:
  • GOLD: Seimone Augustus, USA, Basketball. The U.S. women's basketball team was arguably the most dominant team in any sport at these Olympics.
  • GOLD: Carl Hester, Great Britain, Equestrian. Hester and his two teammates won Great Britain's first-ever Team Dressage gold. Hester finished fifth overall in the individual competition.
  • GOLD: Marilyn Agliotti, Carlien Dirkse van den Heuvel, Kim Lammers, Maartje Paumen, Netherlands, Field Hockey. The Dutch women beat Argentina, 2-0, in the gold medal match. Paumen and Dirkse van den Heuvel scored the team's two goals.
  • GOLD: Megan Rapinoe, USA, Soccer. The Americans beat Japan, 2-1, in the gold medal match. Rapinoe had a key pass in the game. She also had two big goals in the semifinal match. Coach Pia Sundhage is also openly lesbian.
  • SILVER: Judith Arndt, Germany, Cycling. Arndt was the first out athlete to win a medal in London, taking silver in the road race time trial.
  • BRONZE: Edward Gal, Netherlands, Equestrian. Gal was on the bronze-medal team for Team Dressage; He finished ninth overall in the individual event.
  • BRONZE: Lisa Raymond, USA, Tennis. Raymond and partner Mike Bryan won the mixed doubles bronze medal.
Let's hear it for Team Gay!

Funny or Die: Ryan Lochte on peeing in the pool

Just to clear before all the comments start - he's joking, folks...

Pretty good with the deadpan humor, I think.

And he's easy to look at :)

Female boxer wins 1st gold medal for Ireland - hometown goes berserk

This seriously puts a smile on my face. This is what the Olympics mean to so many people around the world. Local pride. Just look at that amazing positive energy.

Boxer Katie Taylor of Bray in County Wicklow, Ireland won the country's first gold medal of the London Olympics. Her hometown went appropriately nuts!

Just makes me smile...

US Olympian hottie Ryan Lochte could be the next "Bachelor"

Ryan Lochte, hottie US 2012 Olympian, apparently has his eyes on a new prize: being a reality TV star.

On an appearance with Matt Lauer on the TODAY SHOW he said,  "I'm definitely looking towards Dancing With the Stars and The Bachelor, so we'll see what happens,” adding that he plans to move to Los Angeles and work on a fashion line. A rep for ABC would not comment on casting for The Bachelor.

As The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported, Lochte's sports agent, Erika Wright, said that the swimmer has multiple TV offers on the table.

"I cannot tell you the exact shows, but two different reality show concepts have been offered and one additional is being discussed," Wright wrote in an e-mail, adding that American talk shows are angling to book Lochte as a guest when he returns to the States.

Are you a "Romneygirl"?

From the "RomneyGirl" website:

"Miss Swiss "Bank Account" hails from Ostermundigen, Switzerland and is the proud daughter of a Nestle Chocolate factory worker and a regionally respected Cuckoo clock maker. She worked as a tax consultant for offshore bank accounts at UBS in Geneva, Switzerland from 2008-2010 where she first met Mitt Romney, who would frequently show up to the bank unannounced and throw $100 bills up in the air while shouting, "Thank God for Amnesty!"

"In 2010, Miss Swiss left Geneva (after safely depositing all of her own money into a Swiss bank account) and moved to Searchlight, Nevada, where she joined a small Swiss expat community of retired yodelers and milkmaids. It was there she bumped into Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid while burning his book “The Good Fight” during a local sheep-shearing festival. Miss Swiss told Senator Reid about Mr. Romney’s tax avoidance “because I thought it was so funny that a Senator would actually think that rich people pay taxes! So silly!” Miss Swiss has not heard from Mr. Romney since he began his Presidential run, but believes he is following her on Twitter @realromneygirl."

"In her free time, Miss Swiss, AKA Romney Girl, enjoys watching sitcoms like Fox & Friends, climbing the Swiss Alps, making cheese fondue, and listening to her favorite pop band Aqua."

"Romney Girl recently gained public attention for inadvertently informing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid that that Mitt Romney had paid zero taxes in the last ten years."

US Olympian Ryan Lochte gets his party on in London

Leaving Chinawhite at about 3:30am, hottie Ryan Lochte looks like a good time was had by all.

I don't blame him.  He should have a great time after winning all those Olympic medals.

Olympic Inspiration: Oscar Pistorius of South Africa

South African Olympic sprinter Oscar "Blade Runner" Pistorius has been one of the most inspiring stories of this Olympics.

Born without fibulas (commonly known as the calf bone), both his legs were amputated below the knee when he was still an infant.

At the age of 17 and with just a few months of training, he won a gold medal at 200 meters in the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, also adding silvers in the 400 meters and 100 meters.

Pistorius ran in the men’s 400-meter race in London over the weekend, making history as the first double amputee to compete in the Olympic games.

Although he did not medal, he did make it clear how successful his journey to the Olympics and competing among the other athletes made him feel.

After the race, fellow competitor Kirani James of Grenada turned to Pistorius, hugged him, and then asked to exchange name bibs, a poignant gesture of respect.

Pistorius had come in at 46.54 seconds, .95 of a second behind James, the winner. James said of Pistorius, “He’s very special to our sport. He’s a great individual - it’s time we see him like that and not anything else.”

Pistorius called James a “phenomenal competitor” and said that trading the name bibs was “what the Olympic spirit is all about.”

The things that happen at the Olympics...

A lot is being made of our US Rowing team getting a Bronze medal at these Olympics.

But even more is being made out of this picture in which one of the rowers is apparently "more excited" than most Olympians get when being presented with their medal.

However, U.S. Olympic rower Henrik Rummel says he doesn't have an erection in the pic. He has gone on Reddit to say that he's not "excited" - that's just who he is.

"This is me and I swear it's not erect! I don't know why it ended up in that position but there you go."
