Donald Trump accused folks of 'misinterpreting' his statement that he believes North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un's claim that he didn't know anything about the case of college student Otto Warmbier.
Earlier this week, Trump told reporters, "He tells me that he didn't know about it, and I will take him at his word."
Yesterday, the Donald tweeted that his message was not properly understood, although it's not clear how it was 'misinterpreted.'
I never like being misinterpreted, but especially when it comes to Otto Warmbier and his great family. Remember, I got Otto out along with three others. The previous Administration did nothing, and he was taken on their watch. Of course I hold North Korea responsible....— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 1, 2019
....for Otto’s mistreatment and death. Most important, Otto Warmbier will not have died in vain. Otto and his family have become a tremendous symbol of strong passion and strength, which will last for many years into the future. I love Otto and think of him often!— Donald J. The parents of Otto Warmbier, who attended Trump's first State of the Union address, issued a scathing rebuke regarding his 'believing' the North Korean leader, which read, in part, "Kim and his evil regime are responsible for unimaginable cruelty and inhumanity. No excuses or lavish praise can change that."
You were NOT “misinterpreted.” You sided with a brutal dictator over the Warmbier family and U.S. Intelligence agencies. An apology would have been appropriate, but per usual you just issued another lie to try to cover up your misdeeds. You’re pathetic.— Ryan Knight 🇺🇸 (@ProudResister) March 2, 2019
