Some news items you might have missed:
• Ignacio PĂ©rez Rey (above via Instagram) says goodbye to summer #sigh
• The Pope approves of "civil unions" for same-sex couples but says marriage is a "historical word" for men and women that "we cannot change."
• Hate pastor Kevin Swanson of Colorado says the Texas legislature's failure to pass an anti-transgender "bathroom bill" is the reason God sent Hurricane Harvey to destroy Houston.
• This paramedic who worked for six straight days saving lives in Houston during Hurricane Harvey could be deported if Donald Trump rescinds the DACA program.
• Donald Trump has named his first openly gay high-level appointment - homocon Richard Grenell as ambassador to Germany. You'll recall Grenell served as Mitt Romney's foreign policy spokesman in 2012 for two seconds until right-wing conservatives called for his dismissal because gay.
• And by the way - if you're enjoying the Labor Day weekend (or any weekend for that matter) say thank you to the unions.
Signed, a proud union member (Actors Equity Association) for 33 years. Happy Labor Day!
