Poll: 68% Of Americans Say Transgender Folks Should Be Allowed To Serve In Military


According to the latest poll from Quinnipiac University, 68% of Americans say transgender people should be allowed to serve in the U.S. military; 27% oppose the idea.

Additional survey results:

• 89% of American voters say it should be illegal for employers to discriminate against LGBTs based on their sexual orientation

• 46% say acceptance of trans people would be "a good thing for the country;" 14% say more acceptance of trans folks would be "a bad thing"

• 80% Americans disapprove of the way Republicans in Congress are handling health care reform

• 59% Americans disapprove of the way Democrats in Congress are handling health care reform

• 81% say there should be bipartisan hearings on new health care legislation

• 69% oppose decreasing federal funding for Medicare

• 52% of American voters would like to see the Democrats gain control of the House of Representatives

• 53% of American voters would like to see the Democrats gain control of the U.S. Senate
