Winners and Losers - Recap of the 2013 Emmy Awards
From Newsy:
Every awards show’s gotta have its winners and losers. Let’s take a look at who took home the top honors at the 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday night..
“This may be the saddest Emmys of all time, but we could not be happier.” (Courtesy CBS/ATAS)
That’s Steve Levitan, who co-created “Modern Family” — which took home the best comedy series award. (Via ABC)
This makes four years in a row for the show — which Sunday night also added a best directing award. And in the outstanding drama category — a long overdue win for AMC’s “Breaking Bad.”
The cult crime show is in its final season — but despite its wild success creator Vince Gilligan acted surprised by the win. (Via AMC)
GILLIGAN: “Holy crap! Man. I-- I did not see this coming. I thought this was going to be-- I thought this was going to be ‘House of Cards.’”
But let’s be honest — no one else was really surprised. Interestingly though — Gilligan credits the Internet for the show’s success.
He called online binge-watching and video on demand “a bold new era.” (Via The New York Times)
Actress Anna Gunn — who plays Walter White’s wife in the series — won her first Emmy for best supporting actress.
What’s interesting about THAT win is audiences, well, kinda hate her character.
Really. So much so that last year Gunn wrote an op-ed in The New York Times defending the role.
One surprise win was in the outstanding lead actor in a drama category. (Via The Hollywood Reporter)
It went to Jeff Daniels of “The Newsroom” — who beat out Jon Hamm of “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston. (Via CNN)
But he was very humble about the win.
DANIELS: “Oh, crap! ( Laughter ) didn't expect this. The last-- I usually don't win anything. ... I won the best actor over 50 from the AARP.”
That was Daniels’ first Emmys nomination.
Entertainment Weekly dubbed it the night’s biggest upset, followed by “Nurse Jackie’s Merritt Wever for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy.
