Las Vegas: Elton John has temper tantrum onstage, booing ensues

Apparently, Elton John wasn't having a good time during his concert last night at the Colosseum in Las Vegas

From Norm Clark:

During one of his outbursts at the Colosseum, the Rocket Man exploded, saying “somebody in my production team is (bleeping) fired,” a backstage spy told the Review-Journal.

“He made an ass of himself,” said the source.

The 65-year-old six-time Grammy winner started his show 20 minutes later and ended it 25 minutes early, according to the source.

Stagehands were seen mopping up water after each of John’s outbursts. Booing erupted after the fourth time he threw his water glass.

This was caught on video by 12 cameras shooting during the show as a dancer posted on Twitter saying she was shooting a video with the singing legend.

Ruh-roh...

  1. Not sure this guy is relevant anymore. Too bad because he used to be a class act.

  2. I was THERE! No one boo'ed. If anything, the majority of the crowd found his temper tantrum to be entertaining. His show was great, and we loved it.

  3. Yes, I was there, too, and no one boo-ed. All of my friends thought the 'tantrum' was hilarious, and the show was truly remarkable.

  4. I agree - there was no "booing" at all - someone "irrelevant" doesn't get a 5-min standing ovation. They're also not selling out more than 100 shows all across the globe, EVERY YEAR.

I just wonder what he was upset about, and what caused him to be 25 minutes late and end early - which songs were dropped? Something obviously happened prior to the show causing the late-start (normally, sound system malfunctions are what set him off, but if it was before the show, had to have been something else)

We'll likely never know the entire story, but anyone who thinks entertainers are always in a cheery mood regardless of anything, don't know the first thing about pressure, about life, about anything.

  5. It's already only a 2 hour show where the audience just sits thru everything. Tantrum likely elicited more audience participation tham is usually seen. That having been said I rarely fint tantrums in 65 year-olds amusing and I would have booed (loudly)he's another Vegas sell-out.

  6. I was there, and one of the people that were suppose to go up on stage for the second to last song. While it was a great concert the way in which it ended, getting up on the stage and the immediately being told to sit back in our seats as well as the show ending abruptly to me was one huge let down!

  7. And it was somebody in his Managment team, not Production team, that he was angry at.

  8. We saw the show Wednesday night and it was AWESOME! Extremely professional, met the entire band by name, including the two young men from Croatia who were astonishing! It was one of the best! It started on time and Sir Elton John played for 2 hours! Oh memory lane! Sorry to hear Friday was so tough...imagine how hard it must have been for him... Really sorry to hear the next two Friday nights have been canceled!

  11. Yes I was going to say, strange that considering part of the story I read mentioned "this could be trouble because the show was being recorded" I've seen nothing as yet. And people with camera phones, etc, haven't posted anything on youtube as yet either...
Makes me wonder if he was just a little perturbed and it was blown out of proportion.

I do wonder, however, why the first 2 rows were not allowed on stage for "Sat Night.. " - were they afraid of the water that'd been splashed causing an issue? I don't see why Elton and the band would've stopped and had people ushered off... the whole thing doesn't really make sense and seems like there are some gaping holes in the story.
