It could happen to you

I worried about this exact same scenario for a long time.

Thankfully Michael and I are legally married AND we've done all the legal paperwork to cover ourselves.

But this actually happens folks. I don't really understand how Tom Bridegroom's family could act so callously, but it happens. And this is why marriage equality is necessary.

If you think you may not understand the issue, please read and talk about it so you can form your own independent view of the issue.

Every time we see gay rights put to a vote of the heterosexual majority, we are at risk of being made "less than."

All Americans, all people, should have the same rights as issued by a civil government.

Enough lecturing. Watch the video, please.

  1. This is a travesty. My heart is broken. I do not think this is a 'voting' issue. This is a legal issue and should remain so.

  2. Being single and liking it, I was one of those "bad gays" who was ambivalent and apathetic about the whole gay marriage / Equality thing since it didn't affect me directly.
Then I saw this video and everything changed! After the tears and heartbreak I panicked and contacted all of my same-sex partnered friends to beg them to do everything legally to protect themselves and their relationships... Even if they couldn't legally marry (wills, living trusts, living wills, etc.) Not out of paranoia, but out of LOVE. Shane and Tom's story is a cautionary tale. Yes, who thinks of making a will in their 20's but they'd already built a life together that most older couples could envy. And then... It was gone.
