#TBT: Greg Laswell "Girls Just Want To Have Fun"

After listening to kenneth-in-the-212's posting of Robert Hazard's version of "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" (which I loved), I'm in inspired to share one of my favorite recordings of the Cyndi Lauper classic.

I love when folks speed up or slow down a well-known track and the reinvention reveals a whole new flavor to the tune.

I found Greg Laswell's melancholy cover of GJWTHF refreshing in it's reflective, pensive approach.

It always slows me down and makes me think.

#ThrowbackThursday With A Twist: 80s Band a-ha Reinvents "Take On Me"

I'm always intrigued by the "slow down a classic song to get a new result" method of reinventing songs.

For a #ThrowbackThursday with a twist, I wanted to share this new version of a-ha's "Take On Me."

I'm sure most readers are very familiar with the original music video which ran constantly on MTV back in the 80s.

At the 1986 MTV Video Music Awards, the video for won six awards and was nominated for two others. It was also nominated for Favorite Pop/Rock Video at the 13th American Music Awards in 1986.

This is taken from the upcoming album/DVD "a-Ha: MTV Unplugged Summer Solstice."

I think this brings a very pensive, melancholy sentiment to the song.
