Tom Brady Says "It Was Hard" When His Son Didn't Want To Play Sports Like Him

Tom Brady (image via Facebook)

New England Patriots' quarterback Tom Brady recently told Men's Health Magazine that it was "hard" for him when he discovered one of his sons didn't want to play sports or do all the things Brady likes to do.

“Jack loves sports. He wants to try hard, and he never wants to disappoint his dad. That was me. I’d wake up early on weekends to do stuff with my dad. That’s why I didn’t party a lot. If Dad wanted to golf, I wanted to be there with him. And if I ever missed those things, it would crush me.

“When Benny came along, I thought he would be just like Jack. So I was like, ‘C’mon, let’s do this.’ And he was like, ‘Nope.’ And I was like, ‘What? No, do this!’ And Gisele kept saying to me, ‘Would you effing understand that your son is different?’ It was hard for me. I was like, ‘What do you mean? He’s a boy; he should just do all these things that I do.’ The reality is that Benny just likes different things. And it’s great because now I just have to go do what he wants to do. When we do that, we have the best time. He’s like, ‘OMG, Dad, you’re so funny.’ He loves joking, and I joke back.”

Mother Becomes A Fugitive By Refusing To Allow Son To Be Circumcised

A Florida mother, Heather Hironimus, lost her long court battle with her son's father over having their four year old child circumcised last month. Now, in what appears to be an attempt to keep the procedure from happening, she's gone into hiding.

When Hironimus was a no-show, the judge signed a writ of bodily attachment which allows law enforcement to find and bring her to court.

Hiroimus's attorney said Tuesday that Chase was "terrified" to undergo the procedure and Hironimus checked into an undisclosed domestic violence crisis shelter to protect him.

Due to privacy laws, attorneys did not have to disclose the location of the shelter to the judge or law enforcement.

Last month, when Chase's father won a drawn-out legal battle to have his son circumcised, Hironimus went into hiding with her son.

While circumcision has been very popular in the US for years, from much literature I've read on the subject it seems like it's not necessary.

And the idea of a four year-old knowing someone would be cutting his penis isn't something I'd be up for either.

Gay dads show brain activity similar to mothers and heterosexual fathers

A new study on gay parents published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reveals brain activity that resembles both mothers and heterosexual fathers:

The 48 gay fathers raising children with their husbands seemed to be both mom and dad, brain-wise. Their emotional circuits were as active as those of mothers and the interpretive circuits showed the same extra activity as that of heterosexual fathers'.

Ideally, scientists would perform neuroimaging on men and women before and then after they became parents, to show definitely that any heightened activity followed junior's arrival and was not present before. Until they can do that, Feldman said, she is confident that the telltale brain activity results from parenting.

One clue: in gay fathers, but not heterosexual ones, the brain also had extra communication lines between emotional and cognitive structures. The more time a man spent as primary caregiver, the greater the connectivity. It was as if playing both parental roles caused the brain to integrate the structures required for each.

"Fathers' brains are very plastic," Feldman said. "When there are two fathers, their brains must recruit both networks, the emotional and cognitive, for optimal parenting."

Advice columnist responds to homophobic parent in the most brilliant way

Click pic to enlarge

From UpWorthy: Syndicated columnist Amy Dickinson received a letter from a parent who felt "betrayed" that their son "will not stop being gay."

"Ask Amy" gives an incredible response that certainly made me laugh.

We may have people who believe crappy things like this parent, but we also have awesome people like Amy who offer sarcasm mixed with important real talk to highlight the ridiculousness of their homophobic views.

Bravo Amy Dickinson!

Fort Worth: Mother walks in on son having sex, beats him until he bleeds

My own hometown of Fort Worth has a bit of a scandal going on due to a mother walking in on her son having sex.

Apparently, the woman's cousin was performing oral sex on her son when she walked in.  But instead of beating the older man, she took an electrical cord and beat her son to the point that he bled and had bruises.

From CBS-DFW:
“My cousin at the time he was 18. My son he was 15 and I had walked in the room on [my cousin] giving oral sex to my son and I started whooping my son, and I’m the one who got in trouble as a result of me whooping him,” she said. “When I walked in I saw my son, it was just disgusting to me, the way he was looking and my cousin was looking, and my cousin immediately ran out the door. And I’m just like what the?!? You know, is you serious? So that was my reaction because it disgusted me.”

“The police department told me that it was consensual, but they was committing a homosexual act in my house and we are totally against that. So I whooped my son and about three or four months later they came and arrested me for abuse,” she recalled.
The boy's grandmother alerted the police to the incident.  But things get worse from there.  Apparently, the officer who showed up told the mother he would have done worse, and might have even shot the son.

Ah, my people.

Man beats step-son for not catching baseball

In the above video, see Anthony Sanchez, of California's Imperial Valley, beating his 10-year-old step-son with a belt, apparently because the boy has difficulty catching a baseball. The footage was shot by Sanchez's neighbor, Oscar Lopez, who rather stirringly disrupts the domestic violence in the video's final seconds.

Anthony Sanchez is the Division 5 director for the Imperial Irrigation District, which is apparently a big deal in that part of California. As a result, Lopez's video has caused a minor scandal. Sanchez is now under investigation by the Imperial Valley Sheriff's Department, and is reportedly cooperating with authorities. From the Imperial Valley Press:
Sanchez’s attorney, Ryan Childers, made clear that Sanchez has not been charged with anything, nor are any charges pending, he said. He is cooperating with authorities but at this time there’s no reason for him to turn himself in, he said.

“What’s happening in the context of the video itself is certainly disturbing,” Childers said in response to the video. “We recognize that. But we need to let the Sheriff’s Office have time to fully investigate the incident so all the facts can come to light.”

Sanchez contacted Childers’ office Thursday morning and has since canceled a business trip out of town to cooperate with the investigation, Childers said. His wife and children, including the stepson reportedly in the video, are on a previously planned trip to Alabama, where the wife is from. Sanchez was set to head there as well after a business meeting in Los Angeles, but those plans have been put on hold.

If sheriff’s officials want the child to be brought back to Imperial County, the family will cooperate, but so far there is no indication that that will be necessary, Childers said. He has made contact with the police in Alabama to work with local authorities.

“Our position at this point is we want to let the sheriff’s department do their job, let all the facts come to light, and then we may be in a position to address things at that point,” Childers said.
