Video: Hotel Clerk's Reaction To Being Called The N-Word Goes Viral

A hotel clerk has gone viral after posting a video clip showing him refusing to rent a room to an apparently racist customer.

In the video, the unidentified Black man politely rejects an unseen woman’s pleas to stay at the hotel over and over again as he references an earlier phone call with her where the woman had called him an ugly racial slur.

Woman: “I need to stay here, my mother died.”

Clerk: “I understand that but you called me a f**king n*gg*r.”

Woman: “I’m sorry.”

Clerk: “But you weren’t sorry when you said it on the phone. At the end of the day, in the climate we live in today’s society…”

Woman: “I’m sorry.”

Clerk: “I understand that but it’s above me now.”

Woman: “I need a room tonight.”

Clerk: “Well, there’s the Best Western next door.”

Woman: “Please, I’ve had a horrible day today.”

Clerk: “And I had a horrible time hearing that.”

At one point in the short video, the woman's daughter enters the lobby and asks why her mother isn't allowed to stay. When the clerk explains that he'd been called the n-word, the daughter glosses over the issue saying, "My grandma just died."

As if a dying grandma justifies using such hideous language? The daughter doesn't even apologize for her mother's behavior.

She might as well have said, “My mother is upset and forgot to not be a racist bigot in public.”

It's interesting that they still wanted to be accommodated after such hideous behavior.

UPDATE: It’s come to my attention that while social media is cheering the hotel clerk (identified by BuzzFeed as Craig Brooks in Austin, Texas) for his calm handling of the “case of the unwanted guest,” it seems he’s also quite transphobic.

Twitter-user Allan Brocka did a deep dive and found that in addition to being gay, Mr. Brooks has tweeted several anti-trans sentiments in the not-distant past.

NY State: Town Clerk Forced To Apologize For Refusing Marriage License To Gay Couple

Town clerk Sherrie Eriksen apologizes for denying gay couple a marriage license

On July 30 last summer, Thomas Hurd and Dylan Toften went to the office of their town clerk in Root, New York, to obtain a marriage license.

Instead of a joyful, upbeat episode in their lives, the men were dismayed to be turned down by town clerk Sherrie Eriksen.

She put the couple off saying they couldn’t get a marriage license because they didn’t make an appointment before coming to the office, according to WRAL.

She also told the men that she has a personal objection to same-sex marriage.

That’s despite the fact that New York state legalized marriage equality in 2011, and the U.S. Supreme Court made it the law of the land in 2015.

Toften took to social media at the time to share the incident writing, “Town of Root clerk is a bigot!!! Refused to do our marriage license. She said make an appointment to have her deputy do it… do your job Andrew Cuomo.”

Gov. Cuomo responded to the post by tweeting, “Marriage equality is our law in NY. The denial of a license to a same sex couple is an unconscionable act of discrimination. On behalf of all New Yorkers, I’d like to congratulate Dylan & his future husband on their marriage.”

Several town meetings were held, an investigation was launched, and a lawsuit was threatened by the couple, according to WRGB News.

In the end, an agreement was reached: the town of Root would pay the men $25,000 plus Eriksen would personally deliver a public apology.

And so it came to be on Wednesday afternoon that Eriksen, standing in front of news cameras and town leaders at the weekly town meeting, made her apology.

“In my capacity as town clerk, it is my responsibility to provide marriage licenses to all couples, regardless of sex or sexual orientation, so long as they meet all applicable New York state requirements,” she began. “As such, my office and I will personally will issue marriage licenses to any couple without exception, who is legally entitled to be issued one.”

Her voice wavering a bit, she continued, “On July 30th of last year, there was an unfortunate incident involving Mr Thomas Hurd and Mr Dylan Toften, who came to my office seeking a marriage license.”

“I am sorry for any harm or inconvenience my actions caused the couple, thank you,” she concluded.

Hurd and Toften eventually received a marriage license from another town and were married on August 18.

The couple told WRGB that they're proud they stood up for marriage equality.

"If we had never stood our ground, how many more people would've had to go through this?" Toften said.

NYC Lawyer Has A Problem With Speaking Spanish In Mid-Town

This video went viral yesterday showing a 30-something white male berating two women for speaking Spanish in a Manhattan lunch spot.

Again - two women having a private conversation at lunch speaking Spanish. Freedom of what?

The white guy decided you can only speak English in his presence. Even if he's not a part of your conversation.

Bigoted Radio Host Booted From Las Vegas Airwaves Over Anti-LGBT Adoption Comments

Over the weekend I posted about a Facebook chat I had with a stranger who said there was no point in calling out haters because "you'll never run out of work."

You want to know what happens when people raise their voices and point out hate?

This.

Just a couple of days ago, CBS Radio host Heidi Harris decided she had a problem with a new ad here in Las Vegas for Clark County Family Services. The spot included two gay dads with their son.

Harris took to Facebook to share her ignorant outrage:

"Has anyone seen this ad for Clark County Family Services? Another no-so-subtle attempt to normalize something that is NOT normal. Even if this is normal for YOU, it's not the best thing for a baby.

"Babies who are eligible for adoption should go to MARRIED people of the opposite sex. That is the IDEAL situation for a baby, and political correctness, changing laws or attitudes cannot alter that REALITY.

"And please don't comment here about how "some straight people aren't good parents" or how "you know gay people who are great parents"...blah blah blah... I am fully aware of that. I'm talking about what's best for the CHILD, and that's what the County should be promoting."

You know what "reality" CAN be altered? Ms. Harris's.

Her comment didn't go over well in Las Vegas, and just two days later Harris' show is no longer on the air here in Las Vegas.

Oregon: Homophobic Bakers Send Cakes And Anti-Gay Movie Packages To LGBT Groups

Melissa and Aaron Klein, the former owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, stepped back into the spotlight this week when they sent what appeared to be "apology" packages to 10 LGBT groups comprised of a cake with the message "We Really Do Love You!" and a copy of the anti-gay movie Audacity.

You'll recall the Kleins refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex wedding and ended up being fined $135K for violating Oregon's public accommodation laws. They eventually closed their bakery when the story became public and sales dried up.

However, the incident became a windfall for the couple as anti-gay supporters raised over $350K in donations for the couple via crowd funding.

Melissa Klein gave this statement to the Oregonian about the "apology" packages:

"Our purpose is to express our love for them as a Christian.

"We don't hate them. We also included in the package the movie Audacity. I feel it is a well done movie that shows what being a Christian is about. My hope is that they will watch it and maybe just understand our heart. We want to show them that it's not about not serving them it's about not being able to partake in an event."

The idea for the "apology" packages apparently came from San Diego Gay and Lesbian News reports televangelist Ray Comfort, who produced Audacity.

According to Comfort, “We are like doctors with a cure for cancer."

San Diego’s Canvass for a Cause was one of ten LGBT organizations to receive a cake, but the group decided to place the package on auction via eBay.

“This is not an ’I am sorry cake,’” says Cavass director Cathy Carmack. “There is no apology included with the cake because the Kleins are not sorry. ”

Texas Values head Jonathan Saenz throws a temper tantrum via press release over the news that Hood County Clerk Katie Lang cost the folks of her county $44,000 in legal fees when she denied a gay couple a marriage license upon SCOTUS' historic ruling in June.

“We salute Katie Lang for holding her ground and for showing how this issue works in law; an employee asserts their First Amendment religious freedom rights and the government must seek to reasonably accommodate those beliefs, as was the case here when Lang delegated her role to another employee.

"This frivolous lawsuit is about intimidation and money for the LGBT machine. The same-sex ‘marriage’ license in this case was issued less than an hour after the marriage application was submitted. Claims of 150 hours of legal time are ridiculous.

"Hood County attorney Lori Kaspar essentially caved in to the extortion efforts of the LGBT machine. If she was unable to stand up to the LGBT machine and reject their demands for money, she should have had other attorneys get involved in the case.

"It is our understanding that the personal lawyers for Katie Lang, Liberty Institute, were not a part of the deal-making agreement with the LGBT lawyers.

"The people of Hood County should be outraged that their county attorney gave away thousands of dollars on a case that was essentially over before it started.”

Saenz says the marriage license was issued "less than an hour" after the application was submitted. He's rewriting history there.

Point of fact - the marriage license was applied for on June 29th, and the license was not issued until July 6th. And it was only issued after the law suit was filed.

OU SAE Fraternity Members Issue Statements On Racist Video

The Dallas Morning News has shared an apology from one of the University of Oklahoma Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity brothers, Parker Rice, who was seen leading the racist chant now infamous via viral video.

“I am deeply sorry for what I did Saturday night. It was wrong and reckless. I made a horrible mistake by joining into the singing and encouraging others to do the same. On Monday, I withdrew from the university, and sadly, at this moment our family is not able to be in our home because of threatening calls as well as frightening talk on social media.

“I know everyone wants to know why or how this happened. I admit it likely was fueled by alcohol consumed at the house before the bus trip, but that’s not an excuse. Yes, the song was taught to us, but that too doesn’t work as an explanation. It’s more important to acknowledge what I did and what I didn’t do. I didn’t say no, and I clearly dismissed an important value I learned at my beloved high school, Dallas Jesuit. We were taught to be ‘Men for Others.’ I failed in that regard, and in those moments, I also completely ignored the core values and ethics I learned from my parents and others.

“At this point, all I can do is be thoughtful and prayerful about my next steps, but I am also concerned about the fraternity friends still on campus. Apparently, they are feeling unsafe and some have been harassed by others. Hopefully, the university will protect them.

“For me, this is a devastating lesson and I am seeking guidance on how I can learn from this and make sure it never happens again. My goal for the long-term is to be a man who has the heart and the courage to reject racism wherever I see or experience it in the future.

“Thank you for your consideration of my deepest apologies for what I did.”

I appreciate that he begins and ends with what seem like sincere apologies.

But I have to ask: why does the second sentence of the statement have to sound like "poor me - we're being threatened?" In the same breath that he takes responsibility for his hideous performance now captured forever on video?

He goes on to say his fraternity "friends" have been harassed. Poor them.

And - he mentions alcohol and that the song was "taught" to them. HOW do you hear that "song" and not go running from the f*cking room???

A third of this carefully written statement could have been deleted and he would have made more headway.

In addition, a second student who was identified - Levi Pettit - has had his parents post an apology for him.

How very grown-up.

As parents of Levi, we love him and care for him deeply. He made a horrible mistake, and will live with the consequences forever. However, we also know the depth of our son’s character. He is a good boy, but what we saw in those videos is disgusting. While it may be difficult for those who only know Levi from the video to understand, we know his heart, and he is not a racist. We raised him to be loving and inclusive and we all remain surrounded by a diverse, close-knit group of friends.

We were as shocked and saddened by this news as anyone. Of course, we are sad for our son – but more importantly, we apologize to the community he has hurt. We would also like to apologize to the – entire African American community, University of Oklahoma student body and administration. Our family has the responsibility to apologize, and also to seek forgiveness and reconciliation. Our words will only go so far – as a family, we commit to following our words with deeds.

I'd be curious to know why Levi Pettit can't offer his own statement?

Oklahoma State Sen. Joseph Silk: Gays "Do Not Want People To Have Freedom"

Oklahoma state Sen. Joseph Silk has recently been in the spotlight for sponsoring a bill in the Oklahoma legislature that would allow religious business owners to legally discriminate against gay customers based on their "sincerely held religious beliefs."

Silk was quoted last week by the New York Times that gay people "don’t have a right to be served in every single store."

Today, Silk called in to virulently anti-gay Bryan Fischer's radio show to defend his legislation. During the segment Silk told Fischer's audience, "the LGBT activists do not want people to have freedom. They do not want people to be able to exercise their religious convictions. They don't at all and people really don't understand that."

DEAR ABBY: My husband and I relocated to Florida a little over a year ago and were quickly welcomed into our new neighbors' social whirl. Two couples in the neighborhood are gay -- one male, one female. While they are nice enough, my husband and I did not include them when it was our turn to host because we do not approve of their lifestyle choices.

Since then, we have been excluded from neighborhood gatherings, and someone even suggested that we are bigots!

Abby, we moved here from a conservative community where people were pretty much the same. If people were "different," they apparently kept it to themselves. I don't feel we should have to compromise our values just to win the approval of our neighbors.

But really, who is the true bigot here? Would you like to weigh in? -- Unhappy in Tampa



DEAR UNHAPPY: I sure would. The first thing I'd like to say is that regardless of what you were told in your previous community, a person's sexual orientation isn't a "lifestyle choice." Gay people can't change being gay any more than you can change being heterosexual.

From where I sit, you may have chosen the wrong place to live because it appears you would be happier in a less integrated neighborhood surrounded by people who think the way you do.

But if you interact only with people like yourselves, you will have missed a chance for growth, which is what you have been offered here. Please don't blow it.

Pastors Kevin Swanson and Dave Buehner of Generations Radio are upset about a float at the Rose Bowl parade that included a married gay couple which, despite nasty attacks from anti-gay activists, went off without incident (and even won an award).

Buehner was perplexed by the fact that the AIDS Healthcare Foundation sponsored the float, saying that its “pro-homosexual propaganda” would “spread AIDS.”

He added: “I wonder what the Rose Bowl parade would do if we had the stoning of a homosexual along the parade just as an expression of free speech and all that.”

Swanson: They’ll also witness a controversial same-sex wedding, courtesy of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. According to the Pasadena Star News, a pair of homosexual hairstylists will ‘marry’ along the parade route while riding a wedding cake-shaped float sponsored by the AIDS group.

Buehner: This is an AIDS group? This is a group that’s against AIDS? They’re not trying to spread AIDS right? I mean, if you are trying to spread AIDS you would have pro-homosexual propaganda but if you’re trying to stop it….

Swanson: They may be serving lemonade too as part of the event, I hope not but maybe.

Buehner: I wonder what the Rose Bowl parade would do if we had the stoning of a homosexual along the parade just as an expression of free speech and all that.

Swanson: I think that would be rejected by the Rose Bowl parade committee.

Buehner: Well what if the stones were just made like of flowers and flower pedals?

Swanson: I don’t know if they’d allow that or not. Anyway ladies and gentlemen, this is another instance in which the degradation of our society is going mainstream.

So, just so I'm clear: Buehner wants to compare the exchange of loving marriage vows with staging a violent stoning death of a human being?

Really? Is that what Christ would do?

Swanson went on to say that the gay community is “coming after Christians” and will have them “burned at the stake.”

He described the fight as a “battle between good and evil,” warning “Christians will be destroyed by the other side” unless the government begins to “prosecute homosexuality, especially public acts of homosexuality.”

Indiana radio hosts handles Irate caller over Macklemore's "Same Love"

The host of Artimis Radio U93 Radio based in South Bend, Indiana had no idea that playing Macklemore's "Same Love" would cause such a fuss, but one listener named "Craig" completely flipped out, calling the station time after time after time to rant about the station promoting their "homosexuals and gay tendencies" after Craig's own son had him listen to the song.

The host decided to record the conversation between the both of them.

It turns out - surprise - that Craig is a devout "God-fearing man" who says that "Jesus hates gays" and seems to have missed the fact that his son might be trying to tell him something. When the host points out that America is the land of the free, Craig responds that he needs to be free of gays. After Craig rants repeatedly about how he'll never listen to the station ever again, the DJ tells him,

Please, please, please promise me that you'll never listen to this station again, and that you'll never call in again because, honestly, I could probably talk to the GM and owner here and they probably don't want you to listen to the station ever again.

29 GOP Congressmen propose anti-gay marriage amendment to US Constitution

Rep. Tim Huelskamp

Representative Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) and 28 other House Republicans have introduced a constitutional amendment to prohibit same-sex marriage nationwide.

The proposed “Marriage Protection Amendment” to the U.S. Constitution would read, “Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution, nor the constitution of any State, shall be construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon any union other than the union of a man and a woman.”

The amendment needs to be approved by a two-thirds majority vote in both the House and Senate before being ratified by three-fourths of states.

And so, it will go no where...

Five year old sells lemonade for peace across the street from Westboro Baptist Church

Five-year-old Jayden Sink, of Kansas City, decided to set up a stand selling pink lemonade at The Equality House on Friday afternoon.

The Equality House is a rainbow-colored building directly across the street from Westboro Baptist Church - yeah, the icky ugly bigots who picket US soldiers funerals. The house, which was painted the colors of the pride flag in March, was bought by Aaron Jackson, one of the founders of Planting Peace, a multi-pronged nonprofit set up in 2004 and aimed at spreading goodwill and equality around the globe.

So she painted a banner for the event reading, "Pink Lemonade for Peace: $1 Suggested Donation." She put the stand in the grass and waited. But the waiting didn't take long. Supporters came in by the droves and $1 turned into hundreds of dollars.

Now, Westboro didn't sit idly by. They heckled the little girl, they shouted "bastards" at soldiers who arrived on their motorcycles to buy lemonade, they called the cops trying to shut her down. It only fed the event.

She not only raised $400 during the day on Friday, but she has also collected over $1000 with an online campaign set up through Crowd Rise. Some people donated as little as $10 and as much as $230.

The money she raised was donated to Planting Peace so she could help Planting Peace promote a more peaceful world."

“Jayden represents the natural humanity we are born with," Davis Hammet, Director of Operations at Planting Peace, added. "We come into this world compassionate, caring beings and only become hateful if we are taught to be.”

Tony Perkins continues to support license to discriminate in the military

Funny how Tony Perkins can spin anything to support his own narrative.

Congressman John Fleming proposed an amendment which is now attached to the Defense Appropriations bill that would allow anyone in the military to denigrate gays and lesbians verbally as long as it was tied to their deeply held religious beliefs. "Burn in hell, faggot." All good as long as you say you're a Christian. It's basically a license to discriminate. Which Tony Perkins likes.

President Obama has threatened to veto the Defense bill if that language isn't removed. Soooo, Tony Perkins takes to his perch today to "spin doctor" the situation:

"President Obama can't veto the First Amendment, so he's doing the next best thing: refusing to let his troops exercise it.

"In his most combative move yet, the administration warned Congress yesterday that it strongly opposes Rep. John Fleming's religious freedom amendment, which sailed through the House Armed Services Committee with bipartisan support.

"Now, the administration is taking its spite to new heights by threatening to withhold a year's worth of defense funding over a simple amendment protecting the same rights our troops fight for every day. The administration, which had been content to drive faith underground in the military, is moving to its next phase: driving faith out.

"Welcome to Obama's military, where open homosexuality is encouraged but open belief is not." - Hate group leader Tony Perkins, via press release.

Family Research Council busted using faked image for anti-gay propaganda

Just another day in the lying land of the Family Research Council.

The image above was used in FRC's recent propaganda to show several concerned people at a "Boy Scouts Policy Meeting."  See the placard on the left side of the picture saying "2013 Policy Meeting?"  See the Boy Scouts emblem near the center of the image?  Jeremy Hooper from Good As You found just one, little problem:

It's a complete fabrication. FRC simply Photoshopped a Boy Scout logo and a "2013 Policy Meeting" placard onto an existing picture that they lifted from another site. The picture in question is actually from the website LegalGeekery.com and is described as being from the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

So, here's the thing, kids: if you have swallowed any of the FRC's sad diatribe against the LGBT community up to now, think about who you follow. Because for all you know, they are as fake as the image at the top of this post.

Tony Perkins: Boston bombing was practically (almost) gay marriage's fault

I don't know how much closer Perkins could get to blaming the Boston bombing on marriage equality, but I do know I'm getting less and less patient with his icky, ugly campaign against the LGBT community.  The nerve of him to invoke the phrase "the human heart" when he himself spends every waking minute making life miserable for so many is appalling.

He loves to double-back and say "I don't hate gays" but seriously folks, how long can you live every day dogging a whole community of people?

The act's worn thin....
