Pride Music: Tom Goss "Bears"

Pride Month includes all of our diverse communities, so I love sharing this music video.

Back in 2013, over 200 “bears” joined together to make guitar-toting Tom Goss’s super-fun music video for "Bears."

Complete with lots of robust, hirsute men playing with Super Soakers, careening down a slip and slide, and dancing in a club (usually in slow motion), the video celebrates all the furry goodness.

Prominent figures in the “bear” and LGBTQ community star in the film including model and Bear World Magazine’s “Bear of the Month,” Miles Windsor (a.k.a. Lumberjack Bear), Charger Stone (DC Bear Crue), and well-known drag queen, B’Naka.

Aside from his personal tastes (his husband since 2010 is a self-professed Bear), Tom wanted to showcase the diversity of the gay community in a high caliber production.

“We are overrun with images of perfect men, in perfect clothes and perfect bodies, and as a result, many people doubt their self-image,” says Goss.  “This video showcases what it means to be beautiful and sexy, regardless of size,” he continues.

Even before it's formal release, the buzz both online and through the production had already resulted in Goss receiving dozens of emails from men thanking him for boosting their self-image.

All things Tom Goss can be found at his official website here.

Out Music: St. Vincent Swims In A Sea Of Sexy Bears "Fast Slow Disco"

St. Vincent (whose real name is Annie Clark) recently reimagined her song “Slow Disco” into a sensual, euphoric remix and set the music video in a late night dance club.
St. Vincent in a sea of bears for "Fast Slow Disco"
I know, I know… No one wants to see a dance floor full of sexy, gay, leather-clad, harness-wearing bears grinding and pawing at each other to an edgy, sweaty, hypnotic beat.

But if you did…

St. Vincent (whose real name is Annie Clark) recently reimagined her song “Slow Disco” into a sensual, euphoric remix and set the music video in a late night dance club.

Climbing over, under and around the crowd of shirtless men who are touching, swaying and making out, St. Vincent is basically swimming a virtual bear soup.

After shooting the video, the artist took time to strike a pose with her boys which she shared on her social media:

(photo: Tom Cat Hill)

Produced by St. Vincent and Jack Antonoff, the singer says the remix was inspired by Taylor Swift, who Antonoff is close to.

“I don’t want to start a weird rumour or anything,” Clark said, “but I swear to God, you know because Jack Antonoff’s bros with Taylor Swift because they work together a lot, and I feel like Taylor was like, ‘You should make this a pop song’.”

She also shared that she imagined the sound of the track as a tribute to the Queen of Pop. “For me it was like, it’s such a homage to ‘Like A Prayer’-era Madonna.”

Announcing the release, St. Vincent tweeted to her 1 million followers, “Happy Pride. It was sweet of these boys to let me crash their party.”

On YouTube, St. Vincent told her fans, "I always felt this song could wear different outfits and live many different lives. Here she is in disco pants, sweating on a New York dance floor."

St. Vincent has previously shared that she doesn’t identify as gay or straight.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, she said: ‘I don’t think about those words. I believe in gender fluidity and sexual fluidity [so] I don’t really identify as anything.”

‘You can fall in love with anybody,” she added. “I don’t have anything to hide but I’d rather the emphasis be on music.”

Viral Video: Bear Chews Kayak Despite Pleas From Kayaker

Via Gawker:
“Bear! Bear! You’re breaking it! You’re breaking my kayak! Why are you breaking my kayak?! Bear! STOP!”

On a recent solo Kayak trip in Alaska, Mary Maley encountered this hungry and curious bear while she was finishing up lunch. After thanking the bear for not eating her kayak, she tried to pepper-spray him in the face.

So the bear ate her kayak.

This was unfortunate for Maley, who didn’t have any other way of getting out of Berg Bay. Very understandably, she had a complete and total meltdown. Less understandably, Maley posted her entire freakout to YouTube.

It's all about the audio. I don't mean to laugh at the poor woman, but her cries to stop are almost an SNL skit.

Web Series: WHERE THE BEARS ARE Premieres Season 4 Opener

One of my favorite web series is back today!

Episode One of WHERE THE BEARS ARE Season 4 is available now!

Clip description:

In the fourth season opener, the Bears throw a wedding shower in their backyard to celebrate Nelson and Todd’s upcoming nuptials, but things go south fast when Nelson’s mother Doris starts taking potshots at Todd, Nelson invites Todd’s estranged brother Jimmy without telling him, and a spiteful party crasher makes an insulting toast that threatens to ruin the entire event.

WHERE THE BEARS ARE is a web series following the exploits of 3 bear roommates sharing a house in the hills of Silverlake. It is "The Golden Girls" meets "Murder She Wrote" with big, hairy, gay men.

Italian Sports Magazine Features Kissing Gay Rugby Players

Italian magazine Sportweek is getting lots of attention this week by featuring a real-life gay rugby couple kissing on its cover.

The cover image, taken earlier this year at the Legends of Rugby event in Milan, is accompanied by the simple tag line: "Who's Afraid of a Kiss?"

The couple featured on the cover, Giacomo and Stefano, are players for Free Rugby Roma, the first gay-friendly rugby team in Italy.

Furry Friday Music Video: DaddyB "I Want A Bear"

As Bear Week is about to get underway in Provincetown, DaddyB drops this timely little ditty about bears and the guys who love them.

Probably NSFW.

From Queerty:

Set to a ‘90s house music-inspired beat, DaddyB vents his frustration about being steered in the wrong direction when it comes to men. “You keep pointing out every tweezed, plucked, shaved, skinny, wannabe muscle boy who walks by, and I’m through,” he states at the beginning of the track. He goes on to proclaim, “You want to know what kind of M-A-N makes me H-O-T? I want a bear.”

Flanked by two dancing cubs in the song’s accompanying video, DaddyB spills the tea about the beefy, stocky type of guy he’s looking for. There’s a plethora of eye candy throughout the clip in the form of lumberjacks, leather men, football jocks, and military studs…and it that’s not enough, there’s even a daddy who rips a Cornish game hen in half with his bare hands. Yum.

You can download the track for free at daddyb.bandcamp.com.

Makeup artist Barry Bishop (from the web series Con Man) shocked the Comic Con crowd and panel of stars by proposing to his partner Billy Brooks on-stage.

The proposal received a "yes" AND a standing ovation at Comic Con in San Diego yesterday.

James Corden Goes Bear Hunting At LA Pride

Absolutely hysterical. How far we've come :)

James Corden of The Late Late Show goes to L.A. Pride and determines he wants to be the Grand Marshall next year. For some reason this leads him on a "bear hunt."

Ultimately, he finds assembles a "pack" and plays "musical bears." I know, makes no sense but still it's fun.

Corden keeps coming up with segments that are fun and pro-everyone. The fact that he does this without coming across the least bit homophobic is great.

Rachel Maddow Profiles Bear Couple Who Own JebBushForPresident.com

Charlie and CJ, two "high-tech bears" in Oregon, decided back in 2008 to buy the internet domain www.JebBushForPresident.com thinking that someday - SOMEDAY - that might be something someone would be interested in.

Flash forward to today, and here is Jeb Bush about to run for president.

But the Oregon bears aren't looking to sell the domain for a high price profit. They plan to use the space to explain the need for LGBT rights.

And so, that is how they came to be featured on Rachel Maddow's show last night.

The segment begins at the 11:15 mark below. If the player doesn't work, click here.

New Music: MRF "Trying"

Smooth Jazz and Billboard radio single "Trying" off of the iTunes chart-topping album Mob Music. MRF features his dreamteam Lisa Bello, Justin Waithe and Yasko Kubota.

Really quite wonderful. Great production all around, and the music is terrific.

Keyboardist Mike "MRF" Flanagan, the title artist, is quoted in the press materials:

"This is the most personal song (and favorite) I've ever written, so I wanted the video to be the same.

"It was also really important to me to give visibility to the bear community in a jazz/urban/mainstream song and in a light that captures the love and relationship side as well as the heartbreak/breakup side. I've never seen a video that depicts a breakup with bears in the narrative.

"My goal was to embody the beauty of the normal parts of a relationship; intimacy and day-to-day and what "trying" to grieve that feels like visually and musically.

"My mission is for this story to reach as many people as possible and hopefully open the eyes of many who have never seen or thought about this kind of narrative."

CVS Health features bear couple in new campaign

CVS drugstores have rebranded as CVS Health, and in doing so have launched a new campaign underlining many of the changes they've made to position the company as leaders in healthy living.

Some of those changes include not selling cigarettes anymore, designing programs to help folks stop smoking, and expanded "Minute Clinics" for minor illness exams.

Included in the ad, that is clearly meant to demonstrate the diversity of the CVS customer base, is a shot of a handsome bear couple (near the :26 mark).

It's a quick shot, but inclusion like this is important for those small steps that make it clear the LGBT community is in many ways just like everyone else.

Thanks CVS Health.

Fun Friday video: "Snow Bears Happy Twerking "

Very silly but fun video from a couple of guys outside Provincetown on Cape Cod. The snow and cold don't mean nothing to these winter bears.

The lift at the :30 mark made me laugh.

Happy Friday!
