Washington DC Bakery Will Donate Proceeds Of Trump Inauguration Cake To LGBT Cause

Buttercream Bakeshop, a bakery located in the heart of Washington DC,  explained via Instagram post that Trump’s inaugural committee asked for the exact same cake that celeb chef Duff Goldman made for the 2nd Obama inaugural festivities four years ago.

Duff recognized the design immediately:

Buttercream says it will donate the profits for the cake to the Human Rights Campaign.

Excited to share the cake we got to make for one of last night's inaugural balls. While we most love creating original designs, when we are asked to replicate someone else's work we are thrilled when it is a masterpiece like this one. @duff_goldman originally created this for Obama's inauguration 4 years ago and this years committee commissioned us to re-create it. Best part is all the profits are being donated to @humanrightscampaign, one of our favorite charities who we have loved working with over the years. Because basic human rights are something every man, woman and child~ straight, gay or the rainbow in between~ deserve!

Reuters Editor Puts Trump Crowd Commotion To Bed

After lots of back and forth about crowd sizes comparing the Trump and Obama inaugurations, Reuters editor Jim Bourg puts the issue to rest.

Most of the discussions about the crowds was based on side by side photos of the two events taken at the same time 8 years apart.

Both photos were snapped at the exact moment the new presidents took the oath of office. Thus, the comparisons are fair.

From Mr. Bourg via Facebook:

I am seeing a lot of inaccurate talk and allegations online about the crowd photos from Friday's Trump inauguration that are simply not borne out by the FACTS. Now I see my own friends reposting this disinformation on Facebook.

Only one news organization had a still photographer atop the Washington monument for the inauguration and I assigned him to be there. This photo by Reuters News Pictures staff photographer Lucas Jackson was taken at 12:01:18 p.m. on Friday and not much earlier as many people are trying to claim.

Period.

Trump Inaugural Drew Roughly Half The Crowd Obama Did In 2009

A tale of two inaugurations.

Via Vox:

President Donald Trump boasted his inauguration would have an "unbelievable, perhaps record-setting turnout."

But aerial shots of the National Mall from President Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration and today show that isn’t likely.

Federal and local agencies have estimated that anywhere from 700,000 to 900,000 people will be in Washington, DC, today for Trump’s inauguration. That’s roughly half the number of people who attended Obama’s inauguration in 2009.

It’s also less than the turnout for Obama’s 2013 inauguration, which drew 1 million people.

Note the vacant spaces on the ground in the right side photo taken today.

Broadway & LGBT Icon Jennifer Holliday Will Appear At Trump Inauguration

Jennifer Holliday, Tony Award-winner for the original Broadway production of Dreamgirls, has agreed to perform as part of the entertainment lineup.

She has previously sung for Presidents Reagan, both Bushes, and Clinton.

So when the planners of this year’s presidential inauguration reached out to the Tony-winning singer this week to ask if she would sing during a welcome concert the day before Donald J. Trump is to be sworn in as president, she said yes.

“I’m singing on the mall for the people,” she said. “I don’t have a dog in this fight — I’m just a singer, and it’s a welcome concert for the people on the mall.”

Ms. Holliday, speaking during a telephone interview Friday afternoon, said she had not supported Mr. Trump’s candidacy — “I voted for Mrs. Clinton, and they knew that.” But, she said, “if someone wants me to sing a national anthem or something, we think about America, and we go.”

She noted that the Carters and the Clintons, as well as the Obamas, are expected at the inauguration.

“We’ve become such a polarized country — we’re not listening to what the Obamas have said,” she said. “They told us to move forward with hope — they didn’t tell us to stop participating — I didn’t hear that in Obama’s speech.”

A publicist for Holliday confirmed the appearance with The Wrap late Friday afternoon.

Charlotte Church: If Team Trump Did A Simple Internet Search, They'd Know I Think He's A Tyrant

Another 'no' for the Donald Trump inauguration, this time from singer Charlotte Church.

The latest artist to turn down an invitation to sing at the inauguration is Welsh singer Charlotte Church, a soprano who began her career in classical music before crossing over to pop music last decade.

Unlike most singers asked to perform at the inauguration, however, Church didn’t just politely turn down Trump’s request in private. Rather, she took to Twitter and called Trump a “tyrant” and rejected his proposition using several poo emojis.

Trump has had an impossible time finding any A-list talent to sing at his inauguration, and has been turned down by artists including Elton John, tenor Andrea Bocelli, and Celine Dion. Additionally, some members of groups who are performing at the inauguration, such as the Rockettes and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, have loudly protested being asked to entertain Trump.
