Stacey Abrams On Biden Rumors: "I Don't Think You Run For Second Place"

During an appearance on THE VIEW today, co-host Joy Behar asked Georgia Democrat about rumors that she might be announced as a running mate for former Vice President Joe Biden.

Abrams shot the idea down tout suite.

“I think you don’t run for second place,” Abrams told the co-hosts and studio audience. “If I’m going to enter a primary, then I’m going to enter a primary.”

“And if I don’t enter the primary, then my job is to make sure that the best Democrat is the nominee, and that whoever wins the primary, that we make sure that person gets elected,” she added.

Joe Biden Considering Stacey Abrams As Early VP Choice

Axios is reporting former Vice President Joe Biden is considering making his announcement to run for the White House in 2020 a two-fer by also announcing Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams as his running mate.

Close advisers to former Vice President Joe Biden are debating the idea of packaging his presidential campaign announcement with a pledge to choose Stacey Abrams as his vice president.

The popular Georgia Democrat, who at age 45 is 31 years younger than Biden, would bring diversity and excitement to the ticket — showing voters, in the words of a close source, that Biden “isn’t just another old white guy.”

But the decision poses considerable risk, and some advisers are flatly opposed. Some have pointed out that in a Democratic debate, he could be asked why no one on the stage would be a worthy running mate. Advisers also know that the move would be perceived as a gimmick.

Even though she lost her race for Georgia governor in 2018, Abrams' star continues to rise. She delivered Democrats' response to President Trump's State of the Union address in January, and is said to be considering a possible run for U.S. Senate.

Stacey Abrams, the 2018 Democratic candidate for governor in Georgia, has been asked by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to give the Democratic response to the State of the Union next week.

"Three weeks ago, I called Stacey Abrams and asked her to deliver the response, I was very delighted when she agreed," Schumer said to reporters on Tuesday.

• A gay man in Miami says a Lyft driver spewed homophobic slurs at him during his ride before pulling a gun on him. The driver allegedly stopped the car and forcibly removed the man from the car, kicking him in the process and saying he wanted to "kill everyone who is gay."

Oprah Winfrey campaigning in Georgia for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams:

"That's why I'm a registered Independent. Because I don't want any kind of party, or any kind of partisan influence telling me what decisions I get to make for myself.

"So I wanted to just say to you: Nobody paid for me to come here; nobody even asked me to come here. I paid for myself and I approve this message."

Oprah goes on to say when she personally called Abrams and introduced herself, Abrams  response was, "Girl, lemme pull over to the side of the road."

And then there was this: " I just wanna say y’all been on my mind – Georgia you’ve been on my mind. I was just sitting in California, minding my own business, but I could not stop thinking about whats going on down here."
