Sexy AF Idris Elba Is 2018's 'Sexiest Man Alive'

People Magazine has announced woofy Idris Elba as the 2018 ‘Sexiest Man Alive!’

The UK heartthrob, who’s already been honored with the title of Order of the British Empire, was stunned when he heard the news.

“Come on, no way. Really?,” was the 46-year-old’s reaction. Elba followed that with a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor, “Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, ‘Yeah, you are kind of sexy today.’”

“But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling,” he clarified. “It was a nice surprise - an ego boost for sure.”

Elba becomes the 33rd ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ since People began the tradition back in 1985 with Oscar winner Mel Gibson. Last year’s honoree was Blake Shelton, and in 2016 it was Elba’s soon-to-be Hobbs and Shaw co-star, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

But according to the former star of HBO’s The Wire, his early years might not have foretold his hunky future.

“I was very tall and skinny,” says Elba. “And my name was Idrissa Akuna Elba, okay? I got picked on a little bit. But as soon as I could grow a mustache, I was the coolest kid on the block. Grew a mustache, had some muscles, bonkers.”

He certainly outgrew that awkward phase in awesome style.

A father of two, Elba says the birth of his children was “the biggest and best thing ever.” The dashing dad admits, “I’m super doting, big hugs, kisses, lots of love-you.”

People Magazine Names Blake Shelton "Sexiest Man Alive" For 2017

People Magazine has named Blake Shelton "Sexiest Man Alive" for 2017.

I know tons of folks who find a laid-back cowboy pretty sexy.

People says it wasn't six-pack abs or a pretty face that sealed the deal but Blake's funny, down-to-earth charm.

But other folks have pointed out only one black man has ever been given the title. Can anyone think of a sexy black man?

Or Hispanic? Or Asian?

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Is This Year's Sexiest Man Alive!

At 6’5″ and 245 lbs., the Herculean star insists that becoming comfortable in his own skin “took a lot of time.”

As a teen growing up in Hawaii, “I was doing a lot of things that I shouldn’t have. I was getting arrested multiple times, but at the same time, always very respectful to my teachers and elders. I was unsure of who I was and who I wanted to be,” he says.

These days, he says it’s his relationships with his longtime girlfriend Lauren Hashian, their 11-month old daughter Jasmine and his daughter Simone, 15, (with ex-wife, producer Dany Garcia) that help him stay grounded.

“I’ve made big sweeping changes in my career over the years, which have served me nicely,” he says. “But I feel that the big sweeping changes that happened in my life, in my relationships, of being a dad, of being a partner, and the things that I was and the things that I am, has really lent itself to a confidence.”

“We just have this awesome family that is truly non-traditional but so rooted in love. And that’s such a cool thing,” he says. “I’m very proud of it.”

Gay Dads Named "Sexiest Pitchmen Alive" For Campbell's Soup Spot

David Beckham may be this year's "Sexiest Man Alive," but two gay dads - David Monahan and Larry Sullivan starring in a Campbell's Soup commercial - nabbed the title of "Sexiest Pitchmen Alive."

"I didn't realize it would blow up and become the big deal it has become," Sullivan, 45, tells PEOPLE. "Neither of us have been on the 'I'm an activist' train, and I still don't think we really are, because all we're doing is just living our lives. But it just so happens that our spot is entering people's living rooms that normally probably wouldn't let us into their homes, and they don't really have a choice."

"When at the end of the day," Monahan, 44, adds, "all we're trying to do is pay for preschool and our mortgage! But we're happy to be that couple who put ourselves out there to just show that families come in all shapes and sizes."

People Names David Beckham 2015 "Sexiest Man Alive"

For it's 30th annual installment of the "Sexiest Man Alive" titles, People Magazine has named former soccer great David Beckham as the title holder for 2015.

"It's a huge honor," Beckham, 40, tells PEOPLE of scoring our 30th anniversary Sexiest Man crown. "And I'm very pleased to accept."

"I never feel that I'm an attractive, sexy person," he says in this week's cover story. "I mean I like to wear nice clothes and nice suits and look and feel good, but I don't ever think of myself that way."

Still, when Beckham shared the news with his wife, fashion mogul Victoria Beckham, 41, she was totally on-board.

"I would hope that she feels this way about me all the time anyway!" he says with a shy smile. "But she said, 'Congratulations!' "

"We kind of laughed about it with the boys and the boys kind of laughed at me and said, 'Really?! Sexiest man alive? Really?' "

People's "Sexiest Man Alive" issue goes on sale this Friday.

According to NY Daily News, Neil Patrick Harris and Chris Pratt are the front-runners for the title this year.

With his boy-next-door charm, his role on "Parks and Recreation" plus his movie "Guardians of the Galaxy" set to take in over $730 million this year, hunky Chris Pratt is definitely high on my list.

But People also seems intrigued by Harris who starred on Broadway (and won the Tony Award) for "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," was in the film "Gone Girl," and is set to host the Oscars.

Adam Levine set to named People Magazine's "Sexiet Man Alive"

Adam Levine is set to be named People's Sexiest Man Alive, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The Voice judge and Maroon 5 lead singer will be revealed as the magazine's choice next week.

Levine, who recently got engaged to Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsloo, has been included the "Sexiest Man Alive" issue in the past, but never as the top choice.

No word yet on if readers will be treated to a half-nude photo. Stay tuned.

The singer follows recent "Sexiest Man" honorees Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds.
