Cliven Bundy |
It looks like the Bundy militia's face-off with the federal government may be coming to an end this morning as the last four militants have apparently indicated they will surrender themselves at the Malheur National Wildlife at 8AM this morning.
And a bonus - Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, who was traveling to Oregon to assist/take part in the standoff, was arrested and taken into custody last night.
From The Oregonian:
Cliven Bundy, the Nevada rancher who touched off one armed showdown with federal authorities and applauded another started in Oregon by his sons, was arrested late Wednesday at Portland International Airport and faces federal charges related to the 2014 standoff at his ranch. […]
He faces a conspiracy charge to interfere with a federal officer – the same charge lodged against two of his sons, Ammon and Ryan, for their role in the Jan. 2 takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Burns. He also faces weapons charges. The Bundy Ranch Facebook page reported Cliven Bundy was surrounded by SWAT officers and detained after his arrival from Nevada.
Two years ago Bundy led an armed confrontation against federal agents over his failure to pay over $1 million in fines for grazing his cattle on protected lands.
It looks like the feds were just biding their time, waiting for the right opportunity to arrest the errant rancher.
Hopefully this whole "Bundy militia" episode can just end here.
