LA News Anchor's Death Ruled Drug Overdose During Hookup Gone Bad

A Los Angeles news anchor, found dead on December 27, 2018, in a Days Inn motel, died of methamphetamine toxicity according to the coroner.

The Los Angeles Times reports that KTLA anchor Chris Burrous met with another man after connecting on the gay hook up app, Grindr.

The other man, whom the 43-year-old journalist had met on several occasions, called for medical attention when Burrous reportedly put at least two meth ‘rocks’ in his anus during the hookup. He soon passed out and became unresponsive.

Both the man and paramedics attempted CPR but to no avail. Burrous was declared dead at a hospital.

The coroner indicated in his report that hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease played a part in Burrous’ death.

According to Variety, the drug GHB was also found in the hotel room, but not in Burrous’ system. The other man was not charged with any crime.

After spending several years hosting Good Morning Sacramento, Burrous relocated to Los Angeles taking on weekend anchoring duties for the KTLA Morning News.

Burrous is survived by his wife and a nine-year-old daughter.

Los Angeles Joins List Of Cities Boycotting North Carolina & Mississippi Over Anti-LGBT Laws

Joining other cities  like New York, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Honolulu, Cincinnati, Santa Fe, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco, the Los Angeles City Council voted last night to boycott North Carolina and Mississippi due to anti-LGBT laws recently adopted in the two states.

The North Carolina law “overturns all state protections for gay and lesbians and puts new discrimination on the books,” according to Councilman Mike Bonin, who proposed the resolution that was approved on a 12-0 vote.

That law is also particularly hurtful to transgender people, because they would be permitted to only use bathrooms that match the sex designation on their birth certificate, and not by the gender they identify with, he said.

Bonin said the Mississippi law allows rental car businesses to turn away gay couples, and allows for suicide hotline counselors to refuse to help people who are gay.

Bonin said under the boycott, the city would avoid doing business with the two governments and put a ban on city employees making official visits to the states until the two laws are repealed.

“When the state sanctions hatred and the state endorses discrimination, hatred and discrimination increases,” creating a “climate of intolerance and a climate of violence,” Bonin said.

People will be fired from their jobs, hate crimes will go up and young people who are “struggling with their identity are going to be bullied and some of them will ponder suicide,” he charged.

“That’s not what Los Angeles stands for.”

In addition to the above listed cities, the states of Connecticut, Minnesota, New York and Vermont have announced similar boycotts of North Carolina.

Los Angeles: Chaz Bono Debuts In First Major Dramatic Role In "Proof"

Showing no fear of new hills to climb, Chaz Bono appears in his first major dramatic stage role as "Robert" in the David Auburn play Proof for the Noisy Nest Theatre Company in Los Angeles through April 12th.

David Auburn's Tony Award-winning play Proof tells the story of Catherine, who has spent the past years of her life caring for her father, Robert. Robert has not only passed down his aptitude for mathematics, but may have also passed down a form of mental instability.

Upon her Robert's death, Catherine faces a journey beyond grief. She, alongside her estranged sister Claire and her father's former pupil, Hal, aim to find value and answers in the mathematician's 103 notebooks.

Bono has spent years studying acting, telling People Magazine, "People don't think of me as a trained actor. This is really all I've been doing lately, trying to get out there and get seen by people – one person at a time."

The play runs from March 20th to April 12th at the Lounge Theatres at 6201 Santa Monica Blvd in Los Angeles. Performances are 8PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2PM on Sundays.

National Guard marches in Los Angeles Gay Pride parade

In a series of firsts, a delegation from the California National Guard, led by its Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. David S. Baldwin, took part in L.A. Pride, joining Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles), the first openly gay person elected Speaker, in yesterday’s Pride Parade. This marks the first time a U.S. National Guard force has directly outreached to the LGBT community at Pride.

The California National Guard also had its first-ever recruiting booth at the Pride Festival following the parade. Several of the Guardsmen marching alongside Speaker Pérez and Maj. Gen. Baldwin are gay and were marching openly for the first time as members of the Armed Forces.

“The overwhelmingly positive response to the California National Guard from Pride participants today was matched only by the respect and enthusiasm the Guard showed toward our community,” Speaker Pérez said. “Today makes it absolutely clear the Guard is committed to including and reflecting all the people they serve.”

“We are a performance-based force, and one's sexual orientation shouldn't affect their ability to serve and excel,” said Maj. Gen. Baldwin. “Duty to one's state and nation - not sexual orientation - is the defining trait of our soldiers and airmen.”

Lillias White to head up special LA Gay Pride kickoff event of Musical Mondays

Musical Mondays Los Angeles have announced they will host an LA Gay Pride kick-off event at Eleven Nightclub in West Hollywood.

Featuring performances by Tony Award Winner Lillias White (Broadway’s THE LIFE, H2$, DREAMGIRLS, FELA!, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, CHICAGO) plus cast members from the Broadway-bound production of HANDS ON A HARD BODY.

Musical Mondays Los Angeles is a weekly celebration of musical theatre in West Hollywood that has been running for more than three years.

Every Monday night at Eleven Nightclub in West Hollywood, VJ Keith Jacobson plays videos from Broadway and movie musicals followed by a LIVE show at 10 PM.

Los Angeles Mayor: Democratic platform should include marriage equality

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the chair of the 2012 Democratic National Convention, expressed his support for a marriage equality plank in the party platform in an interview with Politico.

Said Villaraigosa: “I do, I think it’s basic to who we are. I believe in family values and I believe that we all ought to be able to have a family and marry if you want to. I don’t think the government should be in that business of denying people the fundamental right to marry.”

At least 18 senators have expressed support for adding marriage equality to the platform.  Freedom to Marry launched a campaign to that end last month.
