"You're fired!" says Donald Trump to VA Secretary Shulkin |
The President announced via Twitter that Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin is out and that he is nominating his physician Dr. Ronny Jackson to replace him.
From The New York Times:
After weeks of uncertainty atop the Department of Veterans Affairs, President Trump said on Wednesday he plans to replace its secretary, David J. Shulkin, with Dr. Ronny L. Jackson, the White House physician and a rear admiral in the Navy.
The announcement punctuated what has been a sharp fall from favor for Dr. Shulkin, a politically moderate former hospital executive, who delivered Mr. Trump a string of bipartisan legislative victories at a time when he was struggling to find them. And it adds to a significant shake-up of Mr. Trump’s senior staff, which has already included the secretary of state, director of the C.I.A. and the president’s national security adviser.
The secretary’s prospects dimmed last month after the department’s inspector general issued a report describing “serious derelictions” related to a trip Dr. Shulkin took last year to Britain and Denmark. The report found that Shulkin spent much of the trip sightseeing, charged first class travel for his wife and improperly accepted Wimbledon tickets as a gift.
But there is no CHAOS in the White House. This is peeeeeerfectly normal. #Not

....In the interim, Hon. Robert Wilkie of DOD will serve as Acting Secretary. I am thankful for Dr. David Shulkin’s service to our country and to our GREAT VETERANS!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 28, 2018
The VA is arguably the federal government’s most chronically mismanaged bureaucracy. Trump has tapped to helm it a uniformed physician who, though well credentialed in medicine, has no apparent management experience.— Philip Rucker (@PhilipRucker) March 28, 2018

“@VoteVets — a frequent critic of @realDonaldTrump — voiced concerns that Jackson “has never managed an agency like the @DeptVetAffairs,” saying that “now is not the time for people who need training wheels.” https://t.co/1ftdSz2jVw— Will Fischer (@will_c_fischer) March 28, 2018
