Mike Huckabee's Tenure With Country Music Association Lasts One Day Due To LGBT Animus
![]() |
| Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee |
From the Arkansas Times:
Huckabee’s critics included Jason Owen, who manages Little Big Town, Kacey Musgraves and Faith Hill. Owen, who is gay, married and a father, said “Huckabee speaks of the sort of things that would suggest my family is morally beneath his, and uses language that has a profoundly negative impact upon young people all across this country. Not to mention how harmful and damaging his deep involvement with the NRA is.” He said is companies would “no longer support the CMA Foundation”.
Huckabee has compared homosexuality with bestiality and regularly denounced same-sex marriage.
More from Variety:
Steve Schnur, a former CMA board member, said the town’s phones were lit up all night and into this morning after Wednesday’s announcement. “I got calls in shock from multiple CMA members, asking if I knew about it, some threatening to leave,” says Schnur, who is the worldwide executive of music for EA, the blockbuster video game producer that has moved most of its efforts to Nashville, and who sits on the Recording Academy’s Nashville board. “I’ve had numerous conversations since the second I woke up with chairmen of labels and major managers, all collectively agreeing that this move, which fortunately now has been resolved, really would have put Nashville back 20 years.
No doubt the former governor of Arkansas will use this incident to gin up some paid speeches somewhere...

Gov. Mike Huckabee Stands Up For NEA Funding
![]() |
| Former Gov. Mike Huckabee |
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who is an amateur musician himself, pens this op-ed for the Washington Post in support of the arts program that makes up .004 percent of the federal budget.
Huckabee doesn't miss his chance along the way to take a swipe at "high-dollar Hollywood stars," though.
An excerpt:
Donald Trump wasn’t my first choice for president. I was. But he was my second choice, and I’m proud that I supported him. In tackling the federal budget, he faces a debt that has doubled to $20 trillion in the past eight years. No doubt a chainsaw seems more appropriate to the task at hand than a carving knife, but I would urge my president and friend to hold back from one tiny area of the budget whose elimination would cost far more than it would save.
Funding for the National Endowment for the Arts might seem expendable — especially given how often celebrity artists insult and even threaten the president. But such hateful high-dollar Hollywood and music-industry stars don’t receive anything from the NEA, and they shouldn’t. Not because of their insufferable political whining, but because they get rich selling their talents to the highest bidder in the private sector. I have zero interest in spending a dime of tax money to prop up those who hate the president and the tens of millions who elected him.
I do care greatly about the real recipients of endowment funds: the kids in poverty for whom NEA programs may be their only chance to learn to play an instrument, test-drive their God-given creativity and develop a passion for those things that civilize and humanize us all. They’re the reason we should stop and recognize that this line item accounting for just 0.004 percent of the federal budget is not what’s breaking the bank.
Participation in the arts leads to higher grade-point averages and SAT scores, as well as improvements in math skills and spatial reasoning. Do we want students who are less likely to drop out of school and more likely to have academic success, particularly in math and science? Music and art deliver, especially for students likely to get lost in an education assembly line that can be more Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall” than about creative thinking and problem solving. Creativity finds cures for diseases, creates companies such as Apple and Microsoft and, above all, makes our culture more livable.
Huckabee closes with the admission that, while he's all for saving federal dollars and cutting government waste, "I’m not for cutting and killing the hope and help that come from creativity."

Huckabee: Mitt Romney Should Come To Trump "Hat In Hand"
Speaking to Fox News' Eric Bolling, former Gov. Mike Huckabee says Mitt Romney owes Donald Trump an apology for his comments during the presidential campaign.
“I hope he comes hat in hand. I hope he makes an apology for the things he said about Donald Trump. He was wrong. He was hurtful, he hurt the party, he hurt Donald Trump, Donald Trump still won. He owes Donald Trump an apology and he owes him his support.”
Romney is reportedly meeting with Trump today to discuss a possible appointment as Secretary of State.
After Romney called Trump a "fraud" and a "con man," I honestly don't see how he could serve as Trump's top diplomat to the world.

Mike Huckabee Hit With $25K Tab For Playing "Eye Of The Tiger" At Kim Davis Rally
![]() |
| Gov. Mike Huckabee (L) with Kim Davis (C) |
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee may have ended his 2016 presidential campaign on February 1st of this year, but he's still paying off the debts racked up on his behalf.
Part of that tab is settlement from a copyright infringement lawsuit surrounding his campaign's using the song "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor at a rally for anti-marriage equality County Clerk Kim Davis.
Apparently, Huckabee initially tried to get out of paying the royalty infringement by saying in court the rally was a "religious assembly." But then the item showed up as a presidential campaign expense on his Federal Election Commission filing.
Clearly presidential campaigns are not "religious assemblies."
From CNN:
Huckabee played the triumphant song by the band Survivor at a rally he held for Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
But Huckabee never paid for the rights -- so his campaign got sued for copyright infringement.
He recently agreed to a confidential settlement with Rude Music. That company is owned by the Survivor guitarist who cowrote the song, Frankie Sullivan.
They settled out of court, and it came to light when Huckabee listed the $25,000 cost as a campaign expense on federal election records. A payment to Rude Music is listed as a "legal settlement" for "copyright infringement."
Huckabee paid half of it in May and listed the $12,500 payment as an "itemized disbursement." He listed the other half as "debts and obligations." Both appear on a June 20 filing.
Huckabee ran for the Republican ticket until he dropped out Feb. 1, but he's still paying off the cost of his campaign.

Iowa: Mike Huckabee Loses His Cool Defending Duggar Family
As we all know, Mike Huckabee enjoyed aligning himself with the Duggar family due to their popular TV show 19 Kids & Counting, and their very anti-gay "Christian" views.
Even when the story came out that son Josh Duggar had molested several of his sisters while they were little, Huckabee tried to keep his friendship with the family. But eventually, he pulled away when the story continued to snowball as it was revealed Josh had spent thousands on pornography and lap dances.
At a town hall in Iowa last night, Huckabee flipped out when a woman asked why he "supported child abuse" for so long by supporting the Duggars.
Huckabee loses his cool here, gets into it a bit and eventually has the woman removed.
Huckabee is averaging about 2.4% in advance of the state's upcoming caucus's.

Mike Huckabee: I've Never Heard Any Pro-Lifer Suggest Attacking Planned Parenthood
“I don’t know any pro-life leader, any - if you can tell me one, please correct me - but I don’t know of anybody who has suggested violence toward Planned Parenthood personnel.”
I think The Huckster is walking a fine line there. He may not want to name a "pro-life leader" but he knows there are those in that tribe that call for violence to close down Planned Parenthood. That's not news to anyone.

Mike Huckabee In Hot Water Over "Racist" Tweet
I trust @BernieSanders with my tax dollars like I trust a North Korean chef with my labrador! #DemDebate
— Gov. Mike Huckabee (@GovMikeHuckabee) October 14, 2015It wasn't Donald Trump but former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee who raised eyebrows last night as the Huckster sent out the above tweet which many considered racist.
In addition, the irony was not lost on many that some years ago, Huckabee's son his son David was accused of capturing and hanging a stray dog at Boy Scout camp as a teen.

Mike Huckabee Thinks A Meeting Between An Unlawful Clerk And The Pope Will Stop "Judicial Tyranny"
![]() |
| Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee |
Currently in 9th place among GOP White House hopefuls, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee took to his Facebook to crow a bit about the alleged Kim Davis/Pope Francis meeting.
He also seemed to suggest that the meeting would be the spark that will finally launch a massive push back to "judicial tyranny."
While the media elites were slobbering all over themselves because Pope Francis commented on climate change, the Pope was having a quiet and powerful meeting with a humble Apostolic county clerk from Kentucky.
The Pope recognized something that the chattering class in Washington and Wall Street will never understand—that Kim Davis followed her conscience and convictions. The Pope thanked Kim for doing so and congratulated her for her stand.
The media mocked and derided millions of Americans who supported Kim's constitutional right to religious liberty. It may just be a visit from the Pope that pushes the out of touch political class in Washington to finally stand up to judicial tyranny and for religious liberty.

Gov. Mike Huckabee: Inviting Gays To Meet Pope Is Like Open Bar At AA Meeting

Mike Huckabee Rants Over Openly Gay Eric Fanning''s Nomination To Secretary Of The Army
![]() |
| Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee |
On Friday, President Obama nominated Eric Fanning, currently serving as acting under secretary of the Army, to be the next secretary of the Army.
Secretary of Defense Ash Carter called Fanning an "excellent choice" to lead the Army.
The appointment would make Fanning the first openly gay secretary of a U.S. military branch.
GOP White House hopeful and constant opponent of anyone/anything gay, threw a hissy fit on his Facebook page about the nomination:
“It’s clear President Obama is more interested in appeasing America’s homosexuals than honoring America’s heroes.
"Veterans suicide is out-of-control and military readiness is dangerously low, yet Obama is so obsessed with pandering to liberal interest groups he’s nominated an openly gay civilian to run the Army.
"Homosexuality is not a job qualification. The U.S. military is designed to keep Americans safe and complete combat missions, not conduct social experiments.”
What everyone else can see is this: Huckabee has it backwards - Fanning isn't being appointed because he's gay. Fanning, who happens to be gay, has decades of experience at the Pentagon.
He has previously served as Chief of Staff of the Department of Defense, Acting Secretary of the Air Force, and Deputy Under Secretary of the Navy.
THAT's why he's being appointed to the position.
Huckabee's animus to all things gay is getting more and more transparent.

Mike Huckabee (Of Course) Gets Kim Davis Question At GOP Debate
In case you missed it, there was one question that touched on LGBT issues last night at the second GOP presidential debate.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee squared off against former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on the issue of rogue Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis and her refusal to follow the law and issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
As part of his argument for "accommodations" for Kim Davis, Huckster pointed out that the Fort Hood shooter was allowed to grow a beard.
“We made accommodations to the Fort Hood shooter, to let him grow a beard. We made accommodations to the detainees at Gitmo. I’ve been to Gitmo and I’ve seen the accommodations that we made to the Muslim detainees who killed Americans. You’re telling me that you cannot make an accommodation for an elected Democrat county clerk from Rowan County, Kentucky? What else is it other than the criminalization of her faith and the exaltation of everyone else who might be a Fort Hood shooter or a detainee at Gitmo?”So, he compares growing a beard - which has NO effect on anyone else's life - with a county clerk who won't allow two people who love each other to marry?
SRSLY?

Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsome Schools An Erroneous Mike Huckabee
![]() |
| Gavin Newsome |
Huckabee compares Davis to Lt. Governor Gavin Newsome of California for issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples for a short period of time back when he was Mayor of San Francisco.
Huckabee asserted on ABC’s “This Week” that Davis should obey the law “if it’s right,” comparing her decision to withhold marriage licenses to same-sex couples to Newsome's defiance of Proposition 22.
“It is that the ruling class has thumbed their nose at the the very Constitution,” Huckabee said. “You’ve got Democrats who ignored the law when it was the law to have traditional marriage, Gavin Newsom in San Francisco as major, performed same-sex weddings even though it was illegal. Did he ever get put in jail? He most certainly did not."
The difference, of course, is because when a court ordered Newsome to stop issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples - he did.
The California Lt. Governor was not having any of Hucky's trolling.
Check out Newsome's tweets to the Huckster:
. @GovMikeHuckabee you are dead wrong on the Kim Davis issue -- we issued marriage licenses because we believed the law at that time
— Gavin Newsom (@GavinNewsom) September 7, 2015
violated equal protection clause of constitution @GovMikeHuckabee. Once the CA Supreme Court (they interpret the constitution)
ᐧ
— Gavin Newsom (@GavinNewsom) September 7, 2015
Once the court ordered me to stop, I did. I was never in contempt of court -- unlike Kim Davis. Get your facts right @GovMikeHuckabee

President Obama Slaps Back At Mike Huckabee Over Iran/Israel Comments
Speaking at a press conference in Ethiopia, President Obama slapped back at current GOP presidential hopefuls who have taken to making "ridiculous" claims about his policies, and "outrageous attacks" that were unbecoming to presidential politics.
The president was asked about Mike Huckabee's assertion yesterday that the nuclear deal currently under consideration with Iran would “take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven.”
Addressing the question, Obama tied Huckabee's comments to other Republican 2016 nominees:
The president summed up the current political environment like this:

Addressing the question, Obama tied Huckabee's comments to other Republican 2016 nominees:
“The particular comments of Mr. Huckabee are just part of a general pattern we’ve seen that would be considered ridiculous if it weren’t so sad. We’ve had a sitting senator call John Kerry Pontius Pilate. We’ve had a sitting senator, who also happens to be running for president, suggest that I’m the leading state sponsor of terrorism. These are leaders in the Republican Party.”Obama later said the comments by Huckabee might be an attempt at getting some attention for his languishing presidential campaign: “Maybe this is just an effort to push Mr. Trump out of the headlines."
The president summed up the current political environment like this:
“The Republican Party is shocked, and yet that arises out of a culture where those kinds of outrageous attacks have become far too commonplace and get circulated nonstop through the Internet and talk radio and news outlets. And I recognize that when outrageous statements are made about me, a lot of the same people who were outraged when it’s made about Mr. McCain were pretty quiet.”
“The American people deserve better. Certainly presidential debates deserve better. In 18 months, I’m turning over the keys. I want to make sure I’m turning over the keys to somebody who’s serious about the serious problems the country faces and the world faces.”

Mike Huckabee: Problem With Marriage Is People Think It's About Love
GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee appeared on CNN this weekend where he espoused the notion that the problem with marriage today is that people are being selfish and marrying for love.
The Huckster's comment about both wings of a plane and asking which wing is more important is an impotent analogy. If you're so "concerned" about marriage itself, there are far, far more heterosexual marriages failing than gay/lesbian couples marrying; estimates indicate LGBTs make up around 10% of population, so do the math. Nine times for opposite-sex marriages impacting families. If Huck is so worries about 90% of families, why isn't he talking nine times more about divorce?Asked whether same-sex marriage or high divorce rates are a bigger threat to the institution, Huckabee responded that the question was like asking which wing of an airplane is more important.
"Regardless, heterosexual marriage is largely in trouble today because people see it as a selfish means of pleasing self, rather than a committed relationship in which the focus is on meeting the needs of the partner," he said. "That sense of selfishness and the redefinition of love as to something that is purely sentimental and emotional, has been destructive."
In the segment, Huckabee also comments on his recent call for term limits for Supreme Court justices, but makes it clear it's just a vague notion he's come up with. He has no suggestion for what the term limits would be.
The whole point of having supreme court justices serve for life is to help insulate them from the whims of politics and call the law as they see it. That's the way the constitution was written and actually it's a good thing. It's one of the checks and balances that makes our country functional.

Mike Huckabee: I Will Prosecute Critics Of Religious Freedoms Via Executive Order
In a Fox News op-ed, GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee swears to silence critics of "religious liberty" via executive orders:
On Day One of my administration, I will use the power of the presidency to protect and defend people of all faiths in all fifty states.
First, I will sign religious liberty executive orders that support traditional marriage and protect businesses, churches, non-profits, schools and universities, hospitals, and other organizations from discrimination, intimidation, civil penalties, or criminal attacks for exercising their religious beliefs.
Second, I will direct the attorney general to protect religious liberty and prosecute any violations of First Amendment rights of individuals, businesses, religious organizations, institutions, and civil servants, including those who believe in traditional marriage.
The Justice Department will protect and defend the rights of American citizens to follow their religious convictions without discrimination, and prosecute attacks on people of faith and their religious liberty.
I will aggressively prosecute attacks against people of faith as hate crimes.
Third, I will direct the Secretary of Defense to support military chaplains as well as servicemen and servicewomen who actively exercise their faith and not force them to participate in ceremonies they find objectionable on religious grounds. I will defend people of faith in every branch of our military. People of faith will not be punished for serving their country and sacrificing to keep us free.
I will use executive orders and the power of the presidency to protect and defend the Constitution--especially religious liberty, which is the heart of the First Amendment.
Of course, first he needs to become the GOP nominee.
And then, he has to be elected president.
Which isn't going to happen.

Matt Baume Highlights Some Of The Worst Reactions To Marriage Equality
Matt Baume gets to the root of those who are so up in arms about LGBTs recently getting full marriage rights in the US.
(Well, "full" if you ignore what's happening in Louisiana and Texas right now...)
Same-sex couples are getting married, and somehow the world has not yet ended.
But wait - some anti-gay politicians keep warning we're just moments away from the collapse of civilization.
Here are some of the dumbest -- and most dangerous -- things they're saying.

Mike Huckabee Promises To Block Same-Sex Marriage Recognition (If Elected)
Mike Huckabee said on conservative radio Monday that, if elected, he would block all federal recognition of same-sex marriage:
"Until the Congress of the United States puts on my desk a bill that basically defies the laws of nature and nature’s God and defies the longstanding tradition of marriage, the federal government will not recognize same-sex marriage because there is no law that requires it and that would be true for the military and it would be true for all federal institutions. If the Congress decides that they want to pass enabling legislation, they could put it on my desk and I would veto it, and they can attempt to override it. That’s the process. If liberals were subjected to a conservative court that forced them to tithe their income to scripture or forced them to go to church or forced them to believe something that they don’t want to believe, they would say, ‘We can’t do that, that would go against our conscience.’ And I would say, ‘You are exactly right and we can’t have such a ruling.' This is why I find this very unsettling is because liberals will rue the day when the sword they use to enact their agenda is the sword of the court rather than to do it by way of the people’s elected representatives."
Of course, the president doesn't have the power to block recognition of legal marriages.
Also, an analogy of "forcing" liberals to tithe isn't a fair comparison to marriage equality because same-sex marriage rights don't MAKE conservatives get "gay married." Marriage equality is just something conservatives hate; but it doesn't make them do it. Forcing someone to give money to a church against their will is unconstitutional per the First Amendment.
More puffery for the right wing nuts.
