Bryan Batt Shares His Mad Men Character's Gay Journey

Speaking to Esquire.com, actor Brian Batt imagines the fate of Mad Men's one gay character:

I’ve thought about where Sal wound up. On Mad Men, what you think is going to happen doesn’t happen, but what does happen is wonderful in a sad way. It’s never really a happy ending.

"But I’d like to think that Sal had a happy ending, that he does realize who he is and moves on. Unfortunately he’d have to break little Kitty’s heart, but I think she had the clues by the end of the third season.

"I think his mother dies too. His Italian mother dies and it was an impetus to go, ‘You know what? I’m pretending for you, for all these other people. I’m going to be who I am.’

"I imagine him walking through the West Village as Stonewall happens and getting swept up in it.”

AMC's Mad Men returns for it's 7th and final season on April 5th.

The episodes will take place in 1976, sixteen years after we first met Don Draper and Peggy Olson.

In the end, "Joan" decides if women are going to be treated as they were in the 1960s, perhaps women should act like it's the 1960s.

Word is the turn of events from last season lead many cast members to sunny California in the late 1960s, with a change of tone featuring hippies, minidresses, and a psychedelic soundtrack.

The seventh and final season of the award-winning show begins tonight at 10PM EST.

Mad Men Season 6 premiered last night

So who watched the MAD MEN season premiere last night?

CBS This Morning ran this interview with cast members on Saturday in anticipation of the new season.

I love the show. I remember watching the pilot and being aware of how uncomfortable it made me in terms of how women were treated, minorities were treated... And then I realized I liked the accuracy and how this was bringing so much to the surface about what the 1960s were truly like.

Great character development. Great stories lines. If you don't follow the show yet, I highly recommend :)

AMC's "Mad Men" returns April 7

AMC has announced that it's hit series "Mad Men" will return for it's sixth season on April 7 with a two hour season premiere.  The episode is reportedly written by series creator Matthew Weiner.

Asked about the looming end of the series, Weiner had this to say to EW: “With the shadow of the show ending — and with the world in the state that it’s in, which is far more important than the show – the writers and the actors and I have been able to get into a groove about a season that may be accidentally relevant just because it was in our minds. We’ve been taking advantage of the 26 episodes we have left to do all the things that we’ve wanted to do, and so far I think that the audience is in for quite a ride.”

Advance thoughts on upcoming final season of "Mad Men"

The last season of Mad Men hasn't even started yet, but the show's creator Matthew Weiner already has an idea of what the finale will look like.

As fans wait out agonizing months, Weiner's given a little hint at what next season holds. The seventh and final season, which won't start until 2012, will end with Don Draper as an 84 year old man, Weiner told Grantland's Lane Brown.

I do know how the whole show ends. It came to me in the middle of last season. I always felt like it would be the experience of human life. And human life has a destination. It doesn't mean Don's gonna die. What I'm looking for, and how I hope to end the show, is like ... It's 2011. Don Draper would be 84 right now. I want to leave the show in a place where you have an idea of what it meant and how it's related to you. It's a very tall order ...

The show has come a long way in those seven seasons. In his interview with Brown, Weiner is reminiscent of the show's scrappier days, when focus groups called the Emmy winning machine "too slow" and "too boring."

I remember downloading the pilot for free on iTunes.  Watching it I was turned off by the clear misogynous and racial under currents.  But found it fascinating at the same time due to how true to the period it was.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing where Matt Weiner takes the last season.
