Florida Man Tells Facebook He Gets His AR-15 Back Soon, "Don't Go To Walmart Next Week"

On August 6, three days after a white supremacist shot and killed 22 people at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, an idiot in Florida wrote on his Facebook account, "3 more days of probation left then I get my AR-15 back. Don’t go to Walmart next week."
Richard Clayton (mug shot)
On August 6, three days after a white supremacist shot and killed 22 people at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, another white supremacist in Florida wrote on his Facebook account, "3 more days of probation left then I get my AR-15 back. Don’t go to Walmart next week."

From ABC News:

Richard Clayton, 26, was arrested by Florida Department of Law Enforcement authorities on Friday in Winter Park after making an online threat last week, according to police.

On Aug. 6, Clayton allegedly posted on Facebook, "3 more days of probation left then I get my AR-15 back. Don’t go to Walmart next week."

"Clayton appears to believe in the white supremacist ideology and has a history of posting threats on Facebook using fictitious accounts," Florida Department of Law Enforcement officials said.

He was not on probation, despite his threat, Florida officials told The Associated Press.

Clayton was charged with intimidation through a written threat and is being held at Orange County Jail on $15,000 bond.

Clayton reportedly threatened one of the police officers that arrested him asking if he was Hispanic. He also pulled out his genitals and threatened to pee in the officers' patrol car.

More from WKMG News6:

Clayton was arrested at his parents' Winter Park home Friday evening. Winter Park police detailed how Clayton was uncooperative and belligerent during the arrest, at one point telling an officer: "Officer, I hope that the next call you go to, you get blown away and killed. God, I pray that happens."

Court paperwork details how Clayton repeatedly asked an officer if he was Hispanic and that "they are what is wrong with this country. They come in and are ruining everything."

At one point, Clayton repeatedly asked an officer if he was a Nazi, then proceeded to expose himself and threatened to urinate in the police car. After an officer told Clayton he was not Hispanic, Clayton replied, "OK, well then, I guess I won't pee in your car, then."

Minister Stiffs Waiter ("If He Wasn't Gay") Then Arrested For Assaulting Female Manager

Frederic Sterry Smith, 62, of St. Augustine, Florida, was arrested and charged with simple battery after ripping up his restaurant bill and shoving it down the female manager's blouse.
Mug shot of Frederic Sterry Smith (St. Johns County Sheriff Office)

Frederic Sterry Smith, 62, of St. Augustine, Florida, was arrested and charged with simple battery after ripping up his restaurant bill and shoving it down the female manager's blouse.

According to the Naples Daily News, Smith and his female companion had finished eating at the restaurant when he wrote on the receipt “if he wasn’t gay,” with a zero-dollar tip.

Upon seeing the homophobic message the male server took it to the manager on duty, who went outside to confront Smith.

When asked if he had written the message on his check, Smith said yes. He then grabbed the bill, and ripped it up. He grabbed the manager's shirt collar, pulled it open and shoved “the torn check down her shirt, touching her breast with his hand,” according to the police report.

Police quickly tracked the man down, and when questioned about the incident Smith reportedly became “verbally abusive and angry,” denying the stunt.

“I can say whatever I want, to whoever I want!” he told the officers.

His female companion told the police, “We didn’t touch her."

Apparently, the couple's denials were not convincing.

Smith was booked into the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office jail on a charge of simple battery, and released on $500 bail.

Fox News reports that Smith "works as a minister and president at Servant’s Heart Disaster Relief, a St. Augustine-based nonprofit and evangelical ministry 'devoted to helping hurricane victims in North America and the Caribbean.'"

This is a "man of God?"

LGBTQ Group Suspends Exec Director After Accidentally Honoring Men Accused Of Gay Bashing

SAVE executive director Tony Lima suspended after praising four accused gay-bashers

SAVE, South Florida’s longest serving organization dedicated to protecting LGBTQ people from discrimination, is facing awkward questions after it appears to have honored four men accused of taking part in a violent attack on two gay men.

I reported on the attack when it occurred in May 2018 after the Miami Beach Pride Parade.

Dmitry Logunov and Rene Chalarca were severely beaten by four men as they walked home after celebrating LGBT Pride. Surveillance cameras captured the violent beating and helped lead to the four attackers’ arrests.

The four men – Pablo Reinaldo Romo-Figueroa, 21, Luis Alonso-Piovet, 20, Juan Carlos Lopez, 21, and Adonis Diaz, 21 – were soon arrested and charged with felony aggravated battery and could face up to 30 years in prison.

The Miami Herald reported at the time that Miami-Dade prosecutors also filed enhanced aggravated battery with prejudice hate crime charges.

All four pleaded not guilty to the charges and the cases are still pending.

The four men accused of the 2018 Miami Beach gay-bashing

South Florida Gay News reports that at the SAVE Champions of Equality gala two weeks ago on June 14, SAVE executive director Tony Lima recognized the four men telling the crowd they were “wrongly accused.”

In a Facebook video, Lima told SAVE supporters that the father of Lopez, openly gay Juan Lopez, reached out to SAVE weeks ago to arrange for his son to volunteer with the non-profit.

The father has maintained that his son could not have committed the violent hate crime and that he “loves LGBT.”

Since that time, Lima says the men have each spent a few hours volunteering with SAVE participating in tasks like data entry for the group. Additionally, the four purchased their own tickets to the annual gala.

In response, WLRN reports that SAVE has “placed Executive Director Tony Lima on paid administrative leave” while the organization conducts a thorough review of the episode. Lima has served as executive director for SAVE since 2013.

Terry Gonzalez-Chaveza, a spokesperson for the Office of the State Attorney, has issued a statement flatly denying any mistake in charging the men. “The defendants in the case are not wrongly accused,” said Gonzalez-Chaveza, according to SFGN.

Russell Cormican, a Broward County criminal defense attorney, told SFGN that the men may have decided to volunteer in an attempt at personal penance, or perhaps to ‘put their best face forward’ hoping it might help their cases.

SAVE also issued a statement via Facebook.

"We want to extend our deepest apologies first, to the victims, and equally, to the community for any insensitivity that may have been conveyed on our behalf by their attendance and mention at the gala,” read the statement.

“Our number one priority is to promote, protect and defend equality for all people, and it was never the intent of our organization to send a message that we in any way support, exonerate or justify the actions of these individuals.”

SAVE goes on to say the organization is “currently investigating this matter more thoroughly” and promises to provide “an update to our supporters and the community at large as soon as we gather all the appropriate information.”

New Florida Poll Shows Biden Would Beat Trump 9+

A new poll of Florida voters from Quinnipiac University shows former Vice President Joe Biden leading Donald Trump by 9 points in a hypothetical head-to-head match up 50% - 41% respectively.
Donald Trump (L) Joe Biden (R)

I know, I know, it's way early but I always find polls (from reputable firms) interesting to gauge the mood of voters.

A new poll of Florida voters from Quinnipiac University shows former Vice President Joe Biden leading Donald Trump by 9 points in a hypothetical head-to-head match up 50% - 41% respectively.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders would trump Trump by 6 points, 48% - 42% respectively.

Some Democrats did better than Trump but within the statistical margin of error:

• Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren 47% to Trump's 43%

• California Sen. Kamala Harris 45% to Trump's 44%

• Former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke 45% to Trump's 44%

• Mayor Pete Buttigieg 44% to Trump's 43%

Also from the survey:

• Democrats back Joe Biden 91 - 3 percent versus Republicans backing Trump 90 - 7 percent.

• Florida voters are not hip on impeaching Trump 62 percent against versus 32 percent who support.

• 54 percent of Florida voters say they are better off today than they were in 2016; 23 percent say they are worse off.

• But Trump's approval rating is still upside down: 44% approval versus disapproval at 51%.

On the Democrats side, Joe Biden has a huge lead among his fellow contenders garnering 41 percent.

It drops a lot to the second place with Sanders getting 14 percent, Warren 12 percent, Buttigieg 8 percent and Harris scoring 6 percent.

While Trump won Florida's 29 electoral votes in 2016, he beat Hillary Clinton by only 1.2 points - 49 percent to 47.8 percent respectively. So anything along the lines of this poll is devastating for Trump.

Audio: Lawmaker Laughs About Legislation To Execute Gays

Florida state Rep. Mike Hill (R) with Donald Trump (L)
A Florida lawmaker is being called unfit for office after a recording revealed him joking about executing gay Floridians.

An op-ed in the Pensacola News Journal shares an audio clip of Florida Rep. Mike Hill in a recent meeting with a group called Women for Responsible Legislation.

In the recording, a citizen comments, “In 1 Corinthians, it says that a man who has an affair with another man will be put to death.”

Hill can be heard responding, “It says that in the Old Testament, too.”

Another attendee inquires, “Can you introduce legislation?”

Laughter is heard in the background as Hill joins in the chuckles before saying, “I wonder how that would go over?”

It probably won't surprise you to know that Hill's Twitter account describes the 60-year-old as "Pro Life! Pro Guns! Pro Jesus!"

Andy Marlette, who penned the op-ed, writes that with that comment, “Hill proved why he is both an unfit legislator and an unfit Christian.”

Remember folks, this is the same state that lived through 49 people shot to death and 53 more injured at a gay bar, Pulse Nightclub, in June 2016.

Hill went on to share in the same meeting that he believes being gay is “a behavior, and it’s a choice” and that LGBTQ people don’t need legal protections.

In a longer audio clip obtained by The New Civil Rights Movement, Hill can be heard saying, “You can say, ‘But I was born that way.’ OK, well, fine, but nobody’s forcing you to engage in that relationship, even if you were born that way.”

In his essay, Marlette wonders why Hill, who clearly considers himself a Christian, didn’t just say, “No sir, stop right there, that’s wrong, that’s not what Jesus would do.”

But, he didn’t.

The op-ed calls for the Florida House to weigh in as well as Pensacola Mayor Grover Robinson.

“It’s not enough to groan, roll our eyes and privately lament Mike Hill,” writes Marlette. “When public officials espouse cruel and immoral ideas, we are morally obligated to shout them down in the public square.”

As news of the recording has gone public, State Rep. Carlos Gulliermo Smith, who is the first openly gay Latino legislator in the state, has called on Hill to either apologize or resign.

Judge Rules Florida Must Provide Voting Materials In Spanish

A judge has ruled Florida must provide election materials and assistance in Spanish in 32 of the state's 67 counties.

Just in time for the 2020 election!

From Florida Politics:

A federal judge Friday required 32 counties to provide Spanish-language ballots and other assistance to Spanish-speaking voters in Florida’s March 2020 presidential primary election.

Chief U.S. District Judge Mark Walker issued a preliminary injunction that follows a similar ruling in September.

In the earlier ruling, Walker required the 32 counties to provide Spanish-language sample ballots but did not require Spanish-language ballots and other assistance, saying there wasn’t enough time before the November 2018 elections. The ruling Friday goes further in requiring Spanish-language ballots.

The case has focused on Puerto Rican voters and part of the federal Voting Rights Act aimed at people who were educated in schools where the predominant language was not English. It seeks to ensure they are not denied the right to vote in Florida.

Tampa Elects First Openly LGBTQ Mayor

Tampa, Florida has elected its first openly gay female mayor, ex-police chief Jane Castor, who won a runoff election in a landslide.
Jane Castor becomes mayor of Tampa, FL
Tampa, Florida has elected its first openly gay female mayor, ex-police chief Jane Castor, who won a runoff election in a landslide.

Within thirty minutes of the polls closing, the outcome was clear. Castor defeated wealthy businessman David Straz garnering a huge 73% of the vote.

“It shows a change in the times, but really all along, the majority of people just want someone who can do the job,” Castor said of her historic win. “They want a leader who’s gonna improve their lives and focus on the issues that matter to them. And that’s what I intend to do.”

“We don’t tear people down with negativity, so thank you all for believing in that message,” added the 59-year-old former police chief.

The reference to negativity was a clear nod to her opponent who reportedly spent $5 million, much of that his own money, in the race.

In the week’s leading up to the runoff vote, Straz declined any debates or forums saying voters had grown tired of them.

“That means Straz spent nearly $345 for every vote he received,” The Tampa Bay Times reports. “Castor, who won all but 7 of the city’s 103 precincts, spent about $44 per vote.”

Castor nearly won the general election outright, but fell 2 points short with 48% of the vote. That number was triple Straz’s 15.5% he earned to come in second.

Acknowledging her long-time partner, Ana Cruz, Castor gushed, “She was everything. I’ve never been involved in campaign before, that’s her wheelhouse. She knows how to run a positive campaign.”

In conceding the race, Straz called for the city to rally around the new mayor.

“This is all about the future of Tampa,” Straz told the media. “The voters have spoken. They elected Jane Castor. And we need to get behind our mayor and help move the city forward.”

According to her campaign website, Castor served 31 years at the Tampa Police Department, first as a beat cop and then six years as police chief.

LGBTQ advocacy groups celebrated the news.

“Jane Castor’s victory is a clear sign that LGBTQ Americans are being welcomed as leaders in every part of society,” said Erin Uritus, CEO of Out & Equal. “Tampa is the second major American city to elect an openly lesbian mayor so far this month, coming just weeks after Lori Lightfoot won in Chicago.”

“For decades we have fought to make sure that LGBTQ Americans like Castor can have a seat at the table,” she added. “Elections like this show us that all of us belong at the table.”

New Polling Shows Trump Upside Down In Vital Swing State

Donald Trump

In the last six elections, the presidential candidate who won Florida went on to occupy the Oval Office.

So it should be disconcerting to Donald Trump that a new Bendixen & Amandi International poll of registered Florida voters showed a majority - 53% - do not think Trump should be re-elected to a second term. Forty percent indicated they would be in favor of the Donald serving for four more years.

Additionally, Trump's support among Republicans in the Sunshine state, while high at 73%, is lower than his national average of 82% according to the latest Quinnipiac polling.

Florida Lawmakers To Consider Whether To Ban Or Enact LGBTQ Protections

Florida lawmakers will consider two bills this session with major implications for LGBTQs

As this year’s session of the Florida state legislature gets underway today, state lawmakers will consider two bills that could have serious impact on the LGBTQ community in the Sunshine state.

The Florida Competitive Workforce Act (CWA) would amend the 1992 Florida Civil Rights Act to include sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes from discrimination.

The CWA has been introduced for ten years with an ever-increasing number of sponsors.

This year, the legislation has almost 60 sponsors - including 10 Republicans. In fact, the primary sponsor for the bill in the state House is Republican Jackie Toledo of Orlando.

A coalition of 450 businesses in the state including Disney, Darden and AT&T, support the passage of CWA.

“If the Florida Legislature is looking to recruit businesses like Amazon — at no cost to the taxpayer — all they have to do is pass a law that says LGBTQ people will be treated fairly and equally in our state in employment, housing and public accommodations,” Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith (D-Orlando) told the Orlando Sentinel. “Other states already have this. It’s not a social experiment.”

Currently, 20 states have comprehensive LGBTQ civil rights protections.

Joe Saunders, senior political director for Equality Florida, says “It’s our belief that if the Florida Competitive Workforce Act were sent to the floor today, it would pass both chambers.”

However, Rep. Michael Grant (R-Port Charlotte) has sponsored another bill - House Bill 3 - which would preempt local governments from imposing new regulations on businesses and sunset all local ordinances that currently impose such regulations, including those that ban discrimination.

In other words, HB 3 would wipe out all local ordinances that protect LGBTQs from discrimination. In the absence of a statewide law, local ordinances currently protect gays in only 60% of the state.

Grant insists his legislation comes as a result of a recently enacted Key West ordinance which bans the sale of sunscreens that contain ingredients known to harm coral reefs.

It's the coral reefs he's protecting. Riiiiiiight.

“What is absolutely clear to us is that, if this bill passes, it will be devastating to the protections provided by local government to the LGBTQ community,” says Saunders.

In this context, its clear why the CWA is so important. It would finally create statewide protections for LGBTQs.

In past years, the CWA hasn’t even made it out of committee. The Sentinel notes that most years, it wasn’t even assigned to a committee which demonstrates how key power players in the state legislature opposed the bill.

It will come as no surprise that the anti-LGBT Florida Family Policy Council strenuously opposes passage of the CWA.

President and general counsel for FFPC, John Stemberger, claims the CWA will create “a new lawsuit which can be used as a weapon by disgruntled employees to sue employers, claiming they were fired because of the very fluid and subjective notions of gender identity or sexual orientation.”

He also says the statewide protections would allow for lawsuits that “punish creative professionals who decline to design or create a custom product which communicates a message which they disagree with or which conflicts with their religious convictions.”

That’s not exactly true, though.

The CWA already contains language that makes exceptions for “constitutionally protected free exercise of religion.”

If you want an example of how a positive or negative civil rights environment attracts or repels business, take a look at North Carolina.

When the Tar Heel state passed its 2016 law that allowed for LGBTQ discrimination, the NCAA and the NBA All-Star Game canceled on the state, as did corporations looking to bring new businesses to the area.

Experts estimate the economic impact to North Carolina was $3.76 billion according to the Associate Press.

Florida Secretary Of State Resigns After Blackface Photos Surface

Former Florida Secretary of State Michael Ertel
(image via FL Dept of State)

Florida's newly-appointed Secretary of State, Michael Ertel, has resigned on his 16th day in office after photos surfaced of him posing as a Hurricane Katrina victim in blackface, lipstick and fake breasts at a Halloween party some years ago.

According to The Tallahasssee Democrat, the pics were shown to Gov. Ron DeSantis this morning.

By 2pm, Ertel had tendered his resignation.

"I am submitting my resignation as Florida secretary of state effective immediately," he wrote in an email. "It has been an honor to serve you and the voters of Florida."

The Governor's Office issue a statement: "The governor accepted Secretary Ertel's resignation."

"It's unfortunate. He's done a lot of good work," DeSantis said at an event later in the day.

DeSantis explained he accepted the resignation because "I don't want to get mired in side controversies."

The photo is apparently from a 2005 Halloween party, eight months into Ertel's tenure as Seminole County supervisor of elections and just two months after Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans.

The Tallahassee Democrat calls the photos "the sole blemish on a seemingly spotless public career, highlighted by a record of increasing voter registration and making the elections office more accessible to the public."

Florida's New Governor Excludes LGBTs From New Non-Discrimination Directive

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis
(photo: Gage Skidmore/Flickr - CC license)

As new governors take office across the nation, many begin their tenures by issuing executive orders banning discrimination in terms of state government.

Both Michigan and Wisconsin saw their respective new governors, both Democrats, issue anti-discrimination orders quickly after being sworn in.

Those orders prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, age, race, color, national origin, religion disability, marital status, sexual orientation and gender identity in regard to state employment and state contracting.

But in Florida, it’s a very different situation.

Newly-seated Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis did sign a non-discrimination executive order this week, but the omission of LGBT protections in his directive is glaring.

Equality Florida’s senior political director, Joe Saunders, was quick to call out DeSantis for excluding LGBT Floridian’s in his executive order.

“Equality Florida is deeply disappointed to see that LGBTQ employees and contractors have been left out of the governor’s executive order,” Saunders said.

The lack of LGBT-inclusive protections is a sad continuation of Florida’s previous governor, Republican Rick Scott, who refused to issue an anti-LGBT discrimination executive order, even following the devastating mass-shooting at Pulse Nightclub on June 12, 2016, that left 49 LGBTQ people dead.

“As governors across the country establish these critical protections for LGBTQ families, this order draws a stark contrast,” said Saunders.

“We look forward to a dialogue with Gov. DeSantis about why LGBTQ employees have been omitted from this critical policy and how he plans to make sure that all Floridians, regardless of who they are or who they love, can be protected from discrimination,” he added.

Florida Man Being Evicted From New Apartment For Being Gay

Randall Coffman of Florida is being evicted from his new apartment for being gay
Randall Coffman is being evicted for being gay
On December 1, just 21 days ago, Randall Coffman moved into his new apartment in Clay County, located just outside of Jacksonville, Florida.

The apartment has its own entrance but is attached to the home of his landlord, Jackie Cooper.

A couple of weeks after moving in, Cooper saw Coffman and told him she didn’t want him inviting girls over late into the night.

Coffman informed his landlord that wouldn’t be a problem since he’s gay.

"I've been gay since I was born,” said Coffman according to First Coast News. “After that, the harassment for being gay started."

The next day, Cooper approached her new tenant and told him he had to leave - because he’s gay.

Sensing trouble, Coffman recorded the conversation. Watch the report from First Coast News below.

"Listen to me now, you have to leave this place,” says Cooper in the video. "You didn't tell me you're gay until yesterday."

"Why do I have to tell you I'm gay?,” asked Coffman. “I don't have to tell you."

Cooper responded, "You think I want homosexuals coming in and out of my place like that?"

Cooper denies the issue is Coffman being gay, even though she’s caught on video saying exactly that. She says Coffman failed to provide a copy of his driver’s license.

Even though Cooper’s position is discriminatory, the law is currently on her side.

Jacksonville’s 2017 Human Rights Ordinance protects LGBTQ tenants from housing discrimination, but Cooper’s Clay County home is located outside of the city limits.

Neither Cooper nor Coffman signed a lease making his arrangement a verbal month-to-month agreement. In such cases, a landlord can kick a tenant out with 15 days notice.

According to Coffman, Cooper gave him until the 27th to vacate the apartment, which is just shy of the 15-day rule.

But Coffman, currently looking for a new place to live, says he won’t put up a fight. He tells First Coast News he’s uncomfortable about returning to the property.

Florida: Judge Orders Injunction To Allow Voters To Validate Their Ballots

Florida Sen. Bill Nelson (L) and Gov. Rick Scott (R)

A federal judge has ordered an injunction to allow voters whose signatures don't appear to match on their ballots in the hotly-contested Florida race for US Senate to correct their ballots.

From FirstCoastNews:

U.S. Chief Judge Mark Walker issued a preliminary injunction this morning in a lawsuit filed by U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson over ballots thrown out because of mismatched signatures — declaring a state law unconstitutional and offering a middle path to give voters a few days to correct their ballots.

"The precise issue in this case is whether Florida’s law that allows county election officials to reject vote-by-mail and provisional ballots for mismatched signatures — with no standards, an illusory process to cure, and no process to challenge the rejection — passes constitutional muster," Walker said. "The answer is simple. It does not."

The ruling is a victory for Nelson as he tries to narrow the almost 13,000 vote margin between him and Gov. Rick Scott in a razor-thin Senate race that is currently the subject of multiple lawsuits and is undergoing a machine recount, which will likely progress to a hand recount.

After Walker's order was filed, the National Republican Senatorial Committee filed a notice of appeal to the 11th Circuit.

Election officials have identified 3,688 vote-by-mail ballots and 93 provisional ballots in 45 counties that were not tabulated because of signature mismatches.

Based on 2016 results, the total could be as high as 5,000.

Florida: Rick Scott Takes Part In U.S. Senate Orientation Even Though No Winner Called For His Race

Florida Gov. Rick Scott

Even though no winner has been called for the still-this-close Senate race in Florida, Republican Gov. Rick Scott flew to Washington D.C. to take part in 'freshman orientation' events for the Senate.

Check out the photo below as Scott poses for photos next to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

A lawyer for Scott told U.S. District Judge Mark Walker today that the governor plans to recuse himself from certifying the election results, just like he did in 2014, when he was ran for re-election.

Here's the latest on the recounts in Florida from the Orlando Sun-Sentinel:

Counties face a 3 p.m. Thursday deadline to report results from the machine recounts in the U.S. Senate, governor and agriculture commissioner races. The unofficial results from the . Senate and agriculture races were within 0.25 percent, the threshold to trigger a manual recount.

The results from the manual recounts are due by noon Sunday, and the state canvassing board is scheduled to certify the results of the election on Tuesday.

Florida Orders Recounts For 3 Races Including Governor & Senate

And the recounts in Florida have been ordered!

Via the Orlando Sun-Sentinel:

After receiving unofficial election results from all 67 counties, Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner on Saturday officially ordered machine recounts in three statewide elections – U.S. Senate, Governor and Agriculture Commissioner.

Now, county election officials will feed ballots into machines to recount the results in those races. The second round of results is due to the state by 3 p.m. Thursday.

If the results show a margin of 0.25 percent or less, which appears to be the case in the most heated race between U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson and Gov. Rick Scott for Senate, a hand recount is ordered. Results from a hand recount would be due Sunday, Nov. 18 at noon.

The votes cast in the U.S. Senate race were within 0.15 percentage points, a margin of less than 13,000 votes out of more than 8 million cast.

Florida: Gunman Attacks Yoga Studio Killing Two, Wounding 4 More

Another insane shooting occurred Friday evening, this time in Tallahassee, Florida.

Via CNN:

A gunman on Friday shot six people, two fatally, at a hot yoga studio in Tallahassee, Florida, police said.

The two people killed were identified as Nancy Van Vessem, 61, and Maura Binkley, 21, according to Tallahassee Chief of Police Michael DeLeo.

The suspect, Scott Paul Beierle, 40, of Deltona, Florida, died of a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound, DeLeo said.

One other person was pistol-whipped.

DeLeo said police were unable immediately to draw a connection between the suspect and the victims of the shooting.

Around 5:30 p.m. Friday, police responded to a call about a shooting at Hot Yoga Tallahassee.

There were indications people fought the gunman and some tried to save others, the chief said.

Responding officers arrived in about three minutes and found the gunman already dead.

The six gunshot victims were taken to hospitals. Vessem and Binkley died at the hospital and the other four are in critical condition, DeLeo said.

All indications are that the shooting was the act of a single person, the chief said.

Heavy.com reports that Beierle was a member of two Facebook groups - FSU College Republicans and We Are Conservatives.

Also, Leon County records show Beierle had a police record of grabbing and slapping women's butts. USA Today reports he had two arrests, one in 2012 and one in 2016 for such behavior.

Tallehasse Mayor (and current Democratic gubernatorial candidate) Andrew Gillum has suspended his campaign to return to the state capital.

Florida: Pipe Bomb Suspect Identified

Prior mugshot of Cesar Sayoc, Jr. (via NBC News)

NBC News reports that 56-year-old Florida resident Cesar Sayoc, Jr. has been identified as the suspect who sent a dozen pipe bomb packages to prominent critics of President Donald Trump.

Sayoc's white van, which had pictures of Trump and the presidential seal plastered to the windows, was seized by the officials and hauled off to a secure facility.

For those who will ask, according to records, Sayoc is a registered Republican.

Far-right Trump supporters like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity have suggested in the past couple of days that the bombs might have been sent by Democrats as a 'false flag.'

Sayoc's Facebook page has apparently been identified. It's quite the shrine to Donald Trump.

Florida: Mayor Andrew Gillum Leads Rep. Ron DeSantis In Governor's Race

A new CNN poll is energizing Florida Democrats as two of their top candidates are beginning to pull out significant leads.

The CNN poll, conducted Tuesday through Saturday, shows Tallehasse Mayor Andrew Gillum garnering support from 54% of likely voters versus 42% for Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis.

In the U.S. Senate race, CNN shows incumbent Democrat Sen. Bill Nelson leading current Florida Republican Gov. Rick Scott among likely voters, 50% to 45%.

RealClearPolitics' average of polls shows Gillum leads DeSantis by an average of 3.7%, and Nelson has an average 2.4% lead over Scott.

So, this is by no means a done deal. Make sure you get out and vote, folks.
