Cruising In Italy

The first day at the pool - 'gay soup'

Sorry for the light posting lately, dear readers. I'm currently in Italy on the Atlantis gay cruise from Rome, Italy, to Barcelona, Spain, as an early celebration for hubby Michael's 50th birthday.

We're aboard the Celebrity Constellation and having an awesome time. Rich Campbell and his crew do such an awesome job of making these cruises so fun and inviting for the LGBT community.

Today, we woke up in Naples, Italy, and took part in an excursion to the island of Capri (the land of my husband, Michael Caprio's people) and Positano. In between landings, the boat we were on stopped for about half hour periods for the 12 of us on the trip to swim in the gorgeous blue ocean here.

I'll be sharing a bit more as the cruise progresses, but if you've never done an Atlantis Cruise, I highly recommend it.

And no, there was no paid sponsorship for the this post :)

Puerto Rico: Olivia Newton-John Performs For Atlantis Cruise

Olivia Newton-John performs for Atlantis Cruises in San Juan, Puerto Rico

I'm out on the ocean aboard the gorgeous cruise ship, "Harmony of the Seas," with Atlantis Cruises as Olivia Newton-John was the surprise performer for the gay cruise audience in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

I wanted to share a couple of videos to show not only how terrific Olivia was but also the incredible response from the passengers.

I'm told the performance broke the record for the largest concert held on the open seas. Over 5,000 enthusiastic revelers cheered, sang along and gave love to Livvy from start to finish.

Olivia's band wasn't available on such short notice, so she was here solo. But, there just happened to be a full-scale production of Grease performing on the ship, so the production's "Danny," T-Birds and Pink ladies jumped in to help on "Summer Nights" and "You're the One That I Want."

It was a terrific night, and when Olivia sang "I Honestly Love You" she made it clear the sentiment was coming from her heart.

After the show, she posted on her social media, "This week I sang on the Atlantis gay cruise aboard the stunning “Harmony of the Seas" - the biggest ship in the world! It was amongst the most memorable of nights in my whole career! Fun, warm, loving people who shared those feelings with me! Thank you, Atlantis Cruises, Team Rich and Team ONJ!!!"

Watch some video footage below.

DJ duo Galantis performed after Olivia, and she made a point of chatching their show.

The captain of the ship gave Team ONJ a tour of the bridge as we
arrived in St. Maarten

Scenes From A Gay Cruise

I'm currently out on the high seas (on short notice) enjoying Atlantis Cruises' voyage on Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas.

Gorgeous ship, friendly passengers totally over 5,200 and terrific weather.

If you haven't done a gay cruise with Atlantis, I highly recommend it.

Just a few snapshots from the journey so far :)

How could you not love this?

Having a drink last night, I met Randy Report reader Devon.
Nicest guy who stopped me to say he reads this here news blog every day. Made me smile bigly :)

Love is in the air poolside...

On the High Seas with the Muppets

One afternoon this past week onboard the Atlantis cruise, Michael and I were having drinks with friends, and we made a couple of new ones.

A really charming, slightly inebriated couple would lean over, break into our conversation and drop some hysterical, random lines and then step away. Over and over, the lines made me laugh, so I started recording them.

Here are just a few of the fab one-liners the guys - who reminded me of Statler and Waldorf of the Muppets Show - would drop on us in complete seriousness:

"My bf is really drunk. He can't really hold his liquor. I'm a much better drunk..."

(five minutes later)

"If you're going to have sex with me, you're going to need lidocaine."

(five minutes later)

"Your bf is ok, but you're hot."

(five minutes later)

"Ok, I looked again and you're bf is hot, too."

(five minutes later)

"I'm a drunk asmatic. I called 911, doctor said I had flesh eating bacteria. My bf said 'I'm on drugs I can't help.'"

First Thing You Do On A Gay Cruise - Decorate!

Currently on my first cruise - EVER - one of the first things I noticed is the gays like to decorate their cabin doors a la "college dorm" decor.

Some of the entryways are tres complex, some are just photos of the occupants and a message board to communicate with other guests.  (We don't have cellular reception out here so, no texting. So very dinosaur age...)

Now that we've been warned, Michael and I are prepared for the next time :)

Here's just a few ways the gays make the hallways brighter:

Music: Olivia Newton-John "Love Boat" Theme Remixed

As I'm currently on my first cruise, I'm constantly reminded of the 70s/80s TV series "The Love Boat."

A couple of years ago, Olivia Newton-John recorded this remixed version of the theme song for the soundtrack of her movie "A Few Best Men."

Postcard From The Golden Princess - First Cruise!

First cocktail aboard the Golden Princess

Currently out on the Pacific Ocean this week as Michael surprised me with a week long cruise for our 20th anniversary!

This is my very first cruise - ever. Apparently most folks who go on one cruise come back for more and more. I’ve spoken to passengers who this is their 17th, 25th, or 33rd cruise.

We are on the “Golden Princess” which is part of the Princess Cruise Line. The ship has been chartered, however, by Atlantis Events. Atlantis is the leading cruise line for the LGBT community. So, yes, I’m on a boat with about two thousand gay men. And eleven lesbians :)

(Don’t worry - lesbians have a whole cruise line unto themselves, too - Olivia Cruises.)

In that this is my first cruise, I’ll go ahead and share that it constantly crosses my mind that it’s “just like the Love Boat,” which makes me laugh. While everything is very comfortable and the crew uber-friendly, every time I walk on the deck or see a staircase, it reminds me of the late 70s TV show. The decor on the ship is a tad dated, but someone explained that most of the regular passengers are seniors who like a bit of “Golden Girls” design. Stll, very comfortable.

We have several friends from past vacations on the ship, but everyone says “hello” to everyone; very warm, easy atmosphere.

And then there’s the food thing. You’ll hear from people that all you do on cruises is eat and drink. And it’s true. We are out at sea for the first two and a half days, and so far it’s just sun, fun, food and drink.

The restaurants are great. And you really do eat all you want. If you want two entrees, three desserts, just ask. They bring it.

My one concern is the internet connection is slow and paid by the minute so I’ll be a bit truncated on The Randy Report this week. But I will be posting, especially in light of the yesterday’s SCOTUS decision on marriage equality.

Here’s a few pics from the first couple of days on the ship.

Happy Tuesday!

Just like on LOVE BOAT!!!

Just one of many pools - we like the bar here :)

Mandatory life-preserver class - "Never let go Jack..."

Michael and I start the adventure

First sunset. And, more wine!

Just part of the view here on Atlantis Cruises :)

More view. Says it all, doesn't it?

First afternoon at the pool. That's a whole lotta gays, you know?

First official party - the "Dog Tag T-Dance"
Lots of camouflage. Or rather, not so much :)

US men arrested on Atlantis Cruise ship in Caribbean speak out

Two gay men from California have spoken about their ordeal that began onboard an Atlantis Cruise ship in the Caribbean:

The trouble began shortly after the cruise ship Celebrity Summit docked Wednesday morning at Dominica in the eastern Caribbean. Mayer and Hart were in their room when they got a call from a cruise ship official.

“We were summoned that the captain wished to speak to us,” Mayer said. “We were caught off guard.”

Three cruise ship officials and six Dominica police officers were waiting for them. After police interviewed both men separately, the assistant captain spoke, Mayer said.

“At this time, we are going to eject you from the ship. We have zero tolerance toward your behavior,” Mayer recalled him saying.

Police drove them to their headquarters, where they sat on a bench for nearly two hours without legal representation despite repeated requests, Mayer said.

After police took pictures and obtained fingerprints, a high-ranking officer began a nearly four-hour interrogation.

“He said: ‘You’re being arrested for being gay. We’re arresting you for the crime of buggery,’” Mayer said. “He said that other people said that we were engaging in homosexual sex. He repeated that several times. I told him I didn’t know why they would say that. I wasn’t doing that.”

Mayer said he was naked in his cabin and nearly naked on the balcony. “I was less partially clothed than I should have been.”

The two men were charged with indecent exposure and put in a five-by-eight-foot cell to await an appearance before a magistrate.

“The treatment was inhumane,” Mayer said. “We were detained for approximately 26 hours, and 19 of those locked in a cement cell, which had no running water, no toilet, no lights. It stunk of feces and urine. It was infested with cockroaches, ants and bugs.”

Mayer said police brought in government officials to look at them.

“They paraded many people by to look in on us as if we were some type of animal, which was quite humiliating,” he said. “People got great joy in the pleasure of taunting us.”

On Thursday morning, police drove them to the courthouse in the capital of Roseau, passing through an angry crowd, Mayer said.

“They were chanting and banging on the police vehicle. They were screaming things,” he said. “I’ve never seen anything like this in my life, other than in movies. Both my partner and I really feared for our safety.”

Once in the courtroom, Chief Magistrate Evaline Baptiste ordered the men to pay a nearly $900 fine after they pleaded guilty to indecent exposure. He called the two men “rogues and vagabonds.”

Police then drove them to the airport, Mayer said.
