Donald Trump announced this morning he has cut off forest fire FEMA funds from California 'unless they get their act together' regarding forest management.
Note: California sends far more money to the federal government than it gets back in federal aid.
Billions of dollars are sent to the State of California for Forest fires that, with proper Forest Management, would never happen. Unless they get their act together, which is unlikely, I have ordered FEMA to send no more money. It is a disgraceful situation in lives & money!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 9, 2019
.@realDonaldTrump’s threat insults the memory of scores of Americans who perished in wildfires last year & thousands more who lost their homes. @GOPLeader must join me to condemn & call on POTUS to reassure millions in CA that our govt will be there for them in their time of need https://t.co/YZJQug9zh0— Nancy Pelosi (@SpeakerPelosi) January 9, 2019
California doesn’t support Trump so he threatens to cut off wildfire support.— Ryan A Bell (@ryan_a_bell) January 9, 2019
His climate change denialism is one of the reasons that FEMA programs are so sorely needed. #ClimateChangeIsReal #ClimateAction #ClimateChange https://t.co/g0AIGCI3cs
The @washingtonpost emailed FEMA to ask whether Trump had ordered the agency to withhold funds from California, per his statement today on Twitter.— John Upton (@johnupton) January 9, 2019
The response: "Due to the federal funding hiatus, we are not able to respond to general press queries." https://t.co/C0PU8UbLGj
