Taking to Twitter this morning, Donald Trump claimed the now-infamous Nunes memo "totally vindicates" him and his campaign of any wrong doing asserting yet again that the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election is an "American disgrace."
It's not clear if Trump actually read the memo he authorized to be released. If he had, he would have seen the sentence that read “The Papadopoulos information triggered the opening of an FBI counterintelligence investigation in late July 2016 by FBI agent Peter Strzok.”
So the FBI was already investigating the Trump campaign before the Carter Page FISA warrant was issued.
Additionally, the FISA warrant was re-upped three times after it's initial issuance. Different judges (appointed by Republicans presidents) approved these along the way.
The full memo can be read here.
Here's how the Twitterverse responded.
This memo totally vindicates “Trump” in probe. But the Russian Witch Hunt goes on and on. Their was no Collusion and there was no Obstruction (the word now used because, after one year of looking endlessly and finding NOTHING, collusion is dead). This is an American disgrace!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 3, 2018
Quite the opposite, Mr. President. The most important fact disclosed in this otherwise shoddy memo was that FBI investigation began July 2016 with your advisor, Papadopoulos, who was secretly discussing stolen Clinton emails with the Russians. https://t.co/2rGOE1jGg2— Adam Schiff (@RepAdamSchiff) February 3, 2018
That’s it? Dishonest and misleading memo wrecked the House intel committee, destroyed trust with Intelligence Community, damaged relationship with FISA court, and inexcusably exposed classified investigation of an American citizen. For what? DOJ & FBI must keep doing their jobs.

Trump’s on a tweet rampage against FBI/DOJ for being too helpful to Dems. But there’s a problem with that theory:— Tim Kaine (@timkaine) February 2, 2018
Comey? Republican.
Wray? Republican.
Mueller? Republican.
Sessions? Republican.
Rosenstein? Republican.
I guess, to him, upholding the Constitution is pro-Democrat.
It’s a good thing Devin Nunes is not taking my course on national security decision making. I expect my students’ written work to be compelling, accurate, and unbiased. By those standards, I would have to give him an F. Let’s hope his constituents do the same in November.

Wow. Now this #FISAMemo is truly Fake News from the House Intelligence Committee. It's based on two lies 1) Steele dossier was the basis of Carter Page FISA warrant, it wasn't. 2) Steele dossier was initiated by Hillary's campaign. It wasn't, Republicans started it #memoday

As I have said repeatedly, I also remain 100 percent confident in Special Counsel Robert Mueller. The contents of this memo do not - in any way - discredit his investigation.— Trey Gowdy (@TGowdySC) February 2, 2018
"A person familiar with the matter said that four separate federal judges approved the surveillance of Mr. Page, and all of those judges were appointed by Republican presidents." https://t.co/DI5LCfwkoc— Eric Geller (@ericgeller) February 3, 2018
The Nunes memo confirms that the FBI launched an investigation because the Russian government told a Trump campaign official that they had stolen emails from Trump’s political opponent. That Trump official has since plead guilty to lying to the FBI. https://t.co/VHs4bWVmMI— Jon Favreau (@jonfavs) February 3, 2018
Memo actually confirms a timeline not favorable to Trump:— Glenn Kessler (@GlennKesslerWP) February 2, 2018
1. Counterintelligence probe opened in July 2016 by FBI because of George P./Wikileaks/emails.
2. FISA application on Carter Page obtained late Oct. 2016, after Page had left Trump campaign.
And just for extra credit, can we through in this tweet from White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders? She had no idea how right she was at the time...
When you're attacking FBI agents because you're under criminal investigation, you're losing https://t.co/SIoAxatCjp— Sarah Sanders (@SarahHuckabee) November 3, 2016
