Sarah Palin Flips Out On The Today Show Blaming President Obama For Her Son's Domestic Violence Arrest

Sarah Palin, the former half-term governor of Alaska, flipped out during an appearance on The Today Show this morning when she was asked a question about her recent comment blaming her son's domestic violence arrest on President Obama.

The segment began with the show hosts asking about tonight's Iowa caucus, and the scenario of Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz being at the top of polls in the state. During that conversation, Palin deftly took credit for getting Cruz elected to the U.S. Senate.

Then co-anchor Savannah Guthrie appeared to blindside the former half-term governor of Alaska and failed vice presidential candidate by asking about her suggestion that Obama caused her son to allegedly punch his girlfriend in the head.

“I never said that,” Palin said, pursing her lips in anger. “No, I never said that.”

Guthrie pressed on, and Palin argued the anchors had tricked her.

“You guys brought me to talk about Iowa politics and the caucus tonight, not to talk about my kids — and that was a promise,” Palin said. “But as things go in the world of media, you guys don’t always keep your promises, evidently.”

“I never blamed President Obama,” Palin continued. “What I have blamed President Obama in doing, though, is this level of disrespect for the United States military that is made manifest in gutting budgets and not trying to beef it up and let our military do the job that they are trained to do. And in specific issues that we’re talking about that are so hot today — specifically, let’s get there and let’s utterly destroy ISIS as we know our United States military can do, yet we have a commander-in-chief who seems to kind of want to kowtow and allow the enemy to be poking at us — and that’s unacceptable to most Americans, certainly to me.”

Before ending the segment, Matt Lauer pointedly said that no promises had been made to Palin other than the interview would be her first since endorsing Donald Trump.

It's worth noting that the question Guthrie asked was not about Palin's troubled children, but about the former governor's public statement blaming President Obama for our veterans' PTSD.

For the record, this is what Ms. Palin said on January 20, 2016:

“My son, like so many others, they come back a bit different. They come back hardened.

“They come back wondering if there is that respect for what their fellow soldiers and airmen and every other member of the military have given so sacrificially to this country, and that starts at the top.

“It’s a shame that our military personnel even have to question, have to wonder if they’re respected anymore. It starts from the top. The question, though, it comes from the top, the question, though, that comes from our own president where they have to look at him and wonder, ‘Do you know what we go through? Do you know what we’re trying to do to secure America and to secure the freedoms that have been bequeathed us?'”

“So when my own son is going through what he goes through coming back, I can certainly relate with other families who kind of feel these ramifications of some PTSD and some of the woundedness that our soldiers do return with, and it makes me realize more than ever, it is now or never for the sake of America’s finest that we’ll have that commander in chief who will respect them and honor them.”
